Man! Just stoked to have EXCELLENT brisket! Nice bark with wonderful flavor throughout along with tender beef. Paul, the owner, is a hard worker and has a fantastic family story — especially about his dad. That’s his story, so he can tell it! If you are in Richmond GOTOTHISPLACE! I am a brisket nut, and have had alot of it. Even low-n-slow my own recipe… this little hole-in-wall is the real deal pards!

Hands down, some of the best BBQ I’ve had. We got the Texas sampler with brisket, ribs, pulled pork and chicken. Every bite was better than the last. Usually I don’t even try the sauces but their sauces are as good as the meat. Don’t pass up this one.

This IS Texas BBQ. Food was good, staff very friendly and store clean. Very small eating area but I always find these places the best. We just tried the brisket and it was so tender and juicy. I really enjoyed their coleslaw.

We ate here two nights in a row and would’ve made it three, but we had to leave to go home to Atlanta. Might make the drive back just for the brisket. I was skeptical about a place that claims to serve Texas BBQ, but not any more.

This place is just great. I was hesitant to stop for some time but finally stopped by right at closing one night to grab a menu. Ended up talking to the owner and grabbing some food. Wife and I loved it and now make it a regular stop. The owner is a great character and knows how to cook. The food is fantastic. Every thing I have tried so far has been just great. The atmosphere is simple and pleasant. Most BBQ places tend to rub me the wrong way. They seem to want to over do everything and it tends to make the food too busy in my opinion. This is especially true to sauce. These guys let the meat do the talking, and just let the smoke and simple flavors help. The sauce is homemade and offered on the side and it is good, but it is complimentary in flavor and not overly strong, a grave difference to most restaurant BBQ sauce I have tried. I have only tried their sweet sauce, although they do offer spicy. I am a BBQ cook myself, and talking to these guys I have actually learned some tricks and tips I have never heard before. They know what they are doing. If you like BBQ, no reason to go anywhere else. Hell I just drive by for the smell if I am not hungry.

Tried carry-out from Straight From Texas BBQ last week for lunch. I was looking for a new lunch spot on Unilocal, and decided to try this. I would give it 3 stars for now but I will probably come back and try it again sometime. I had beef brisket with two sides. Coleslaw and their special baked beans(can’t remember what they called them). The brisket was OK. I’ve had better. The sides were fine, in fact the beans were actually really good. Nice to know that there is a BBQ place downtown in Richmond.

I am originally from Texas, and have eaten a lot of Texas BBQ. I have eaten at some of the places Texas monthly rank as the best BBQ places. I have also been to state wide BBQ competitions. I believe that the proprietors of Straight From Texas Bar-B-Que not only my favorite restaurant in Richmond, I also feel they could win state-wide competitions if they were back competing in Texas. I have had their Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork, and Chicken. The dry rub they use is both authentic and tasty. Their Greens, green beans, and ranch style beans are authentic. However the hidden secret their is there Tortillas(say it correctly Tore-Tee-Ya) that they make from scratch each day, and the Salsa(although its not for those who don’t like spicy). That is how you know its real texas BBQ, because of the Tex-Mex influences(and the fact that their is a dry rub, and the sauce is added at your pleasure). The prices are reasonable and the proprietor is great to talk too. As someone who lived in Texas for more than 75% of my life, I say this is the closest thing you can get to Texas Bar-B-Que outside the Texas Hill Country, and is better than a huge amount of the BBQ you could actually buy in Texas. I’m in their once a week, so I hope to see you there.

Being from just north of Houston Texas, and not having a really good place for BBQ that I didn’t make myself outside of Texas was just sad when I really wanted good BBQ. Until now! The chef IS from Texas and the food tastes like it. I tried the«Texas Sampler platter». It had a choice of four meats and two sides. I had Brisket, Pulled Pork, Sausage, and Chicken. My family with all of us wound up with all the sides of the day: coleslaw, potato salad, chuck wagon beans, and green beans. With homemade, oh my goodness tortillas! Everything was fantastic and genuine Texas food! The Brisket was pulled, smokey and juicy with wonderful seasoning, as was the pork. The chicken had a nice herb seasoning and the sausage comes from Texas. It was very flavorful with a texture that indicates it is made from real meat instead of something that was processed so much you are never sure what it was. The Chuck Wagon beans were similar to Papasito’s beans but wasn’t as salty and seasoned just a little differently which I liked even better. The green beans were seasoned with a slightly smokey flavor. Potato salad tasted close to my Grandpa’s so it was really good. The Cole Slaw was wonderful and I don’t even like Cole Slaw, not too sweet and not too sour. Oh I almost forgot, we tried the extra spicy salsa which was truly wonderfully spicy with habaneros and great flavor, and great texture(not too runny or soupy). Overall I will be returning very soon and as often as I can. Their hours are sadly only: Tuesday 10:30am — 8:00pm, Thursday 10:30am — 8:00pm and Saturday 10:30 — 1:00 pm. So go when you can. They do deliver and cater. They don’t really have a dining area inside but do have pick nic tables out by the smoker. Smells heavenly! Everything is given to you in a to go box so it is a fast carry out.

Real Texas BBQ near downtown Richmond. Their pits are on a trailer out front and they cook on a stick fire. There are outdoor picnic tables and limited space inside the building. They offer platters with choices of meats and sides. Brisket, Pulled Pork, Sausage, Chicken, and Turkey are the meat choices. Their sides are Slaw, Potato salad, Green Beans, Greens, Mac & Cheese, Mashed Potatoes, Baked Beans, Ranch Style Beans, and corn cake. They say the menu items rotate weekly and not all were available when we stopped in today. We tried a few different meats. I had the brisket and sausage. The sausage was from Texas and is fairly course ground with good spice. It is juicy and cooked with onions and peppers. The brisket was pulled, not sliced, but it was smoky with a good bark. They offered buns for the meat, but I had the hand rolled tortilla. The cook had made some extra spicy salsa which was fantastic.

Incredible food! No place around here has authentic smoked BBQ like these folks! It’s hard to drive by without stopping. They just opened recently and are only open Tue/Thur/Sat. Give a local place with good people a try, I haven’t been disappointed. Their Brisket, pulled pork and chicken each have a distinct taste. Enjoy!
