Rachel’s Garden

It’s an mediocre fruit store in comparison to Valentino’s. Nothing special about this store except for the cheap prices they have. I come here sometimes when Iam in a rush and don’t want to wait on Valentino’s long lines. However be careful not all fruits and veggies are fresh here a lot of their packaged blueberries and blackberries do have mold on it already so pick wisely. A lot of the fruits are somewhat mushy like the apples, they are not suppose to feel like you can poke your whole finger through it. I’ve never had a problem with the veggies being bad but for the fruit I would go elsewhere.

Excellent prices and selection. Cool and courteous people. Olives and cheeses are always fresh and tasty. Nuts and dry fruits all bulk prices so you get the best value. I love this place, and yes everyone still calls it Rachels.

Ignore the other reviews, here is the real deal; this is an ordinary produce market, with approximately the same prices and level of freshness of the other market down the street. If you know how to select fruit and vegetables, you can’t go wrong. Unlike the one down the street, it’s open 24 hours, and they have enough regular grocery items to make this an important resource locally for people who work odd hours. As far as I know the nearest 24 hour supermarket is on 74 St and Grand Av, 2 miles away, and you will pay more for produce there.

I know that it’s not called Rachel’s anymore, but we still refer to it as that I really like this place — they have great deals on good food. Sabra hummus, two for five dollars, and it comes in a multitude of flavors that you wouldn’t find most other places. They have Amy’s Organic Soups 3 for $ 5, and tons of great Kashi brand stuff. They also always have really fresh produce, and they are my go-​to for the freshest bananas and grapes. Their pre-​made salads and fruit salads are fantastic, and a bargain at that. They seem to have kept some of the workers for the Rachels incarnation, and they are always pleasant to me. Plus, they’re open twenty-​four hours. Awesome place.

OMG — I was shopping at this place for the past year… then they closed, then re-​opened. It’s now called «Ridgewood Farms, 24 hour market».
I HAD to come on here a write that I have NEVER had such a RUDE, aggressive, A-​hole of an owner (the new Asian guy, Mister Chin) basically attack me for bringing my own shopping bag in to his grocery store. Crazy-​mean Chinese man, looks like he was about to bust a vein as he TOTALLY got, in-​my-​face yelled at me for having my own green bag, acting like I was going to steal from his place. Thanks to (poor, poor) cashiers (who know me because i USED to shop there regularly) for trying to defend me from psycho Chinese owner…
Totally CwaZee — I will NOT go back, best walk another block and give my cash to business owners who dont attack their loyal customers for trying to be green (green is better than mean!). sad but true.
I expect it will shut BACK down in another 3 — 6 months with customer service like that!

The produce and dairy in this store are not fresh and extremely questionable. Walk down the block to Valentino’s.

Rachel’s is practically abandoned. Not closed, per se, and it still has the same sign on the awning, but it has stopped carrying any items other than basic bulk produce in crates. It feels like an empty storage locker in here now, rather than a grocery store.

What the heck happened to this place?!? Rachel’s Garden used to have a HUGE selection of produce, plus a wide range of international foods. They even had these delicious prepared vegetarian lunches that were around four dollars. But a few months ago, suddenly they stopped stocking the shelves, and everything went bye-​bye. I heard the place changed owners, and that’s the reason why. But whatever the cause, nowadays all they have is a handful of fruits & vegetables for sale. The rest of the shopis nothing but bare shelves. It’s like the ghost town equivalent of a supermarket. A sad fate for a once-​impressive store.

Went back late Sunday night. Forgot to get vegetable broth for dinner.
The guy working there helped me the best way he could. And I found what I needed. And sometimes they’re open later than Valentino’s, without blasting that crappy Hot 97 music.
