RF Grill, or Gossage, as those who’ve been going for years know it, is that perfect place at 2am when you’re drunk and reeeally want a grilled cheese. or a burger. and some fries. and some cheezy hash browns. and a lot of water. and a bathroom. and some more fries! It’s dirty, the bathroom is treacherous, the parking lot is dangerously small, and you may witness an after-bar fight. But damn, that grilled cheese is GOOD.

First off, this place is not open 24 hours a day(even though the sign on the marquee says so). In fact, the place is RARELY open. There seems to be no standard hours of operation. Big negative. Second, I love the food here. The greasy taste of EVERYTHING brings me back to my younger days. I recommend the breakfast special with sausage patties. All for about 6 bucks with a drink. Good deal. Solid food, good prices but not a destination place and the hours are so eractic, it’s rarely worth the trip from the city.

Whether you’re looking for greasy grub or a late night fight, River Forest Grill has got what you want. Aka Gossage Grill is so dependable when I want grilled cheese and hash browns at 4am. It’s small to be sure, a little rough around the edges, a little dirty too, but when you’re drunk and hungry or just looking to start something, it’s the place to be.

A lot of people I know love this place. I think it’s okay. It is open 24 hours, and I think the only time I would ever personally end up here is when everything else is closed. So if you need fast food at 4am, then go and give it a shot.
