I was here for a Rehearsal Dinner just last week. I have to admit I was intrigued to attend because I always pass Rosemary & Sage but have never tried it. Before I say too much I want to say I will go back and try on a regular night just to give it a fair chance. The owner seemed ridiculously frazzled and it was a huge turnoff. I had the pecan crusted grouper w horseradish vinaigrette. All the components were very good but the dish just didn’t work together. The pecan crust by itself was very tasty but together w the grouper and horseradish vinaigrette was missing something. A few people complained of the fish being slightly under cooked, but I thought mine was cooked well. It was JUST done, like when the fish turns from translucent to opaque but I could see how some may have liked it to cook a tad longer. The wine that was picked for our party was delicious and the space was very quaint. The food is on the different side, but I like different and will give it another shot as my mother lives in the area and I’m interested to pick from their regular menu. I have been running businesses for quite some time and I think it was in poor taste that the owner of the establishment seemed so distraught. She seemed as though she was ready to beat her employees if any wrong moves were made — I’m joking, but come on lady, just BREATHE.

We have been dining at Rosemary and Sage. It’s our go to place for excellent cuisine and sophisticated service. The menu changes seasonally and the daily specials are amazing and diverse. Desserts are delicious. Wine list is excellent and fairly priced.

Four of us went for their prix fixe tasting menu on a Friday evening. The restaurant had a nice crowd. The food was very good and plated attractively. The service fell short though. Simply placing the dish in front of each without any attempt to describe and«present» the unique offerings — I had to ask for the menu so I knew what I was eating. The meal was not overly expensive the restaurant overall is pricey for the area. Thumbs up for the food but not so much for the overall service. Bummer. A-OK describes the overall… food alone is definitely a 4

NEVERGOINGBACK. Deserves no stars but it wouldn’t post! Food bad, service worse, bathroom dirty. very very slow and kept asking for food, bread, check. SUPERSLOW! Avoid at all costs. Owner’s wife leads service and it is disorganized and hectic. Just bad.

Worst dining experience I’ve had in years! We had a 7:30 reservation and dinner arrive stone cold at 9:50. My potatoes were under cooked and hard despite the fact they child have been mash potatoes… Desert was awful and coffee was cold. Most disappointing factor was the owner was rude and argumentative when we complained that we were charged for a 5 course tasting dinner — she claimed it was cheaper and when pressed our bill was $ 40 cheaper. We will not return.

Pleasantly surprised. The décor is totally outdated, and my husband and I were the only ones in the restaurant for about an hour and a half on a Friday night, so I had started to worry if I had made the right decision to try this place. When I asked our server if there was dairy in the soup special, she was unsure and said she would ask the chef. About 10 minutes later, she came out from the kitchen to advise that there was indeed cream in the soup, but the chef offered to make me a different soup without dairy, which I thought was nice. I later realized that the server was actually one of the owners, which I was surprised to hear, as she seemed sort of frazzled and had a hard time reading the specials, as other reviewers have pointed out. One appetizer and two entrees took over two hours, as the service was painfully slow. The food, however, was pretty amazing. My organic salmon was cooked and seasoned to perfection. My husbands seafood shepherds pie was full of flavor. Four stars for the food, but this place lacks in all other departments. It was nice to not be rushed out of the restaurant, but since dinner alone took two hours, we had no time to try dessert since we had to go home to relieve the babysitter. To sum it up, the food was way better than average, but the décor could use some major updating and there is room for improvement with the service.

I have been here twice and both times I have enjoyed the experience from begining to end. They even went out of their way to make me a special key lime pie when I made my reservation in advance just to accommodate me. Great customer service. Thanks Rosemary & Sage.

Exceptional house wines by the glass at $ 10 – 12. List of bottles is small but interesting at reasonable price points. Appetizer specials savory. Venison perfect. The other entrée was a two fish shepherds pie, absolutely tasteless, begging for leeks or something to add just a bit beyond mush. The hostess/co-owner is knowledgeable and personable. Unfortunately she got sucked into conversations at tables. In one case this amounted to 13 minutes(yes, I timed it) of inattention for the rest of the house. That was way beyond my level of tolerance.

We dined at rosemary and sage last nite exploring their confit with a Modern twist. The meals consisted of five small plates for 32 dollars a person. Drinks were extra. The cuisine was superb wirh excellent quality, wonderful sauces and complex texture. My wife substituted. terrine for the shrimp due to an allergy — she was not disappointed at a restaurant well known for their soups and terrine specialties. Highlights of the meal were Duck confit wings with maple honey barbecue and black beans, roasted quail with pheasant confit with chestnut sauce and white rice, and pork confit wirh pearl onions and gumbo sauce. We had an exciting dining experience in a quiet welcoming setting — and at a price that was a steal for the quality of the meal served. This is a real neighborhood gem for foodies,

From the restaurant’s exterior to the well rounded menu, Rosemary and Sage is definitely creative! In an area saturated with chain restaurants and Italian bistros specializing in soggy pasta — watery sauce, R &S is a gem! Don’t expect anything to be frozen or pre-made, every single item is prepared with well sourced, farm fresh ingredients. These people care about each item that leaves their kitchen. Upon seating each table is always served a seasonal bread selection which includes a some fresh baked mini muffins. Some kind of homemade spread(like hot pepper jelly) and butter round out the breadbasket. Enjoy a cocktail, great wine or craft beer with your meal. The menu rotates seasonly(maybe every month?). Check their website for the current menu. You can order à la carte or a prix fixe– which includes a choice of the day’s soups, a salad, an appetizer, entrée and dessert. The soups are always great and often include unique toppings. For an appetizer, go with whatever terrine they are offering that day– it is always delicious. Entrees are unique such as venison with duck confit sausage or monkfish with cilantro lime mousse. Save room for dessert which includes a rotating selection of sweets and ice creams. All made in-house of course. Aside from the food, I dig that the atmosphere is a little more relaxed. The service is smooth and the staff is helpful and friendly.

This place is everything I look for in a restaurant. First and foremost, the food is incredible — they serve up seasonal dishes that are super creative with amazing flavor. The service is friendly with a personal touch, and the place as a whole exudes personality — which many white tablecloth places tend to lack. You can expect every little thing to be homemade, from the bread and hot pepper jelly that opens up the meal, to the 20 or so ice cream flavors they offer for dessert. They really pay close attention to detail here. I’d say the 5 course prix-fixe dinner is totally worth it. Once you see the menu, you’ll want to try as much as you can because it all sounds great. We came a couple weeks ago so the menu was fall inspired(I’m not sure how often they change the menu, but judging by other Unilocal reviews, seems like it’s every few weeks or so). I started with the cold vichyssoise soup, which was super creamy and flavorful. That was followed up by course #2, the terrine du jour, which was duck that night. It comes with a piece of toast and some pâté as well. The third course was a well-dressed house salad. For my entrée I went out on a limb(and I’m so glad I did) and ordered the venison medallion. It came with a house made duck confit & chicken liver mousse sausage, root vegetable purée, and small cut crispy potatoes on the side. While the venison was very good, the real star of this dish was the sausage — it was probably one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life! I could have subbed the venison out for another one of those and been totally happy with the dish. For my fifth and final course I went with the chocolate peanut butter brownie(which is GF) and vanilla ice cream and a shot of espresso. I don’t think I’ve ever raved about plain old vanilla ice cream in my life, but theirs was incredible! All in all, this was an extremely enjoyable experience. I liked that the service was a little slower paced so you can sit, converse, and thoroughly enjoy your meal. Definitely plan to spend a couple hours a least, especially if you do the 5 courses. Also, their wine list had some incredible values. There are some really fantastic bottles on there that you won’t find so low-priced anywhere else, so I definitely recommend splurging here a little bit.

4.5 stars If you want a great, no frills– dining experience look no further. This is a great spot to get a taste of a few different things over a prix fixe, 5 course dinner. The place looks quirky from the outside, and it is on the inside as well. Your food is going to come on plates from ’95 but if you’ve made it this far; sit back, have a drink, and get ready to enjoy some very well prepared food. This past Saturday night we stopped by for my fathers birthday and we tried the fall menu(or was it late summer?) Our meal began with a basket of fresh bread, corn muffins, and housemade hot pepper jelly. There was a hot soup: asparagus ginger and a cold soup: vichyssoise. Appetizers included housemade bresaola, housemade terrine, goat cheese stuffed; housemade bacon wrapped figs, and a quinoa stuffed green chile. A well dressed house salad came next followed by our entrees: venison medallions served with a duck confit sausage, a NY strip with gumbo broth risotto, and a monkfish with a lime glaze and basil mousse. We finished with desserts: peanut butter brownies with ice cream, a bread pudding with ice cream, sorbet, and poached fruit with ice cream. Obviously most of the desserts came with ice cream which I’m sure is a crowd pleaser… did I mention they have around 20+ homeade flavors? They also have a great wine selection with some great values. I haven’t been here in a few years prior to last weekend but might need to change that. All of the food was well prepared, and non-repitative. No haricot verts, green beans, or roasted potatoes come on the side here. Service was great and welcoming throughout our meal, no complaints.

Excellent food from appetizer to dessert! The staff is great. I never had an empty glass or a dirty plate on my table. My gf and I both had fish which was terrific! I definitely recommend this place! I will be back

Excellent inventive food you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. The staff is always attentive and accommodating. Go w the 5 course for like 50 bucks you won’t be disappointed. Deserts are 100% made on premise.

Flavor, presentation, texture, and quality all converge at the restaurant. When compared with the finest Manhattan restaurants, this gem is on equal footing. The 5 course tasting menu is divine. Come hungry. They have a wonderful selection of wine and I must recommend the apple-Tini! I got the butternut squash soup with a drop of leak cream, green salad with fresh mustard dressing, appetizer veal with roasted chestnuts homemade bacon and a savory sauce, main entrée of monk fish and shrimp over a barley risotto with pearl onions. To finish I enjoyed a loose leaf Ceylon tea and a warm banana cream tart with mocha sauce, fresh whipped cream, fresh bananas and a Gram cracker tarlet crust. Not to miss, get there soon.

Absolutely one of the best evenings and meals of our lives! Went based on reviews here on Unilocal for our 7th anniversary and were blown away. Wendy, one of the owners, waited on us and is an absolute delight. From the amazing 2 soups we had(Lentil & Butternut Squash)(And, I haven’t touched squash in over 40 years!) to the appetizers(Goat Cheese Crème Brulee and a terrine) to our entrees to dessert, easily one of the Top 5 Dinners of my life. We literally sat there talking about all the people we want to take there in the future. p. s. Try a drink of Hum or St. Germain. INCREDIBLE!

This is my new favorite place to eat dinner. It is a little more expensive than the other privately owned restaurants in the area, but the food is at another level completely. The pace is definitely european as someone else mentioned, it will be a two hour dinner, which didn’t seem to lag as we all sat and chatted. Our waitress told us about the appetizers which included things house-made prosciutto(who does that?) we also ate amazing polenta cake that I posted a picture of. Main courses, were just beautiful to look at, all carefully prepared and artfully plated. I ordered the stuffed quail and duck confit. My wife ordered the fish of the day, my daughter ordered the scallops and we tasted and passed the plates and tasted and passed the plates, loved every single bite. At dessert time we ordered several different desserts and shared. The ice cream was delicious and the chocolate ooze cake a keeper The combinations of flavors and ingredients were original and delicious. I’m not aware of another restaurant like this in this area.

This is a tough one since patience is clearly a virtue for me. The pace of the meal is «European». Be prepared to spend 2 hours from seating to leaving. Once I settled down, I was fine with it. Everything on the menu shows the owner’s passion about cooking. All except the place settings are homemade. Bread, Butter, Jelly, Smoked Meats, Sausage’s etc… The meals are unique and go above the typical New Jersey Chicken Breast that seems to be served everywhere! Venison, Duck, Angus Beef… Everything we ordered was delicious. Of special mention is the homemade Ice Cream. If they served only ice cream they would be a success on that alone. It is without question, the Best Ice Cream I have ever tasted. If the Vanilla Mint is offered, ORDERIT !!! Freshly chopped mint leaves, amazingly good. My suggestion now that I’ve been initiated, is to go there when you want a relaxing wonderful meal served by family. I’d go back!

Wonderful favors and quality food. We had the 5 course price fix menu and each course was prepared perfectly. Were lucky to have a restaurant of this quality outside of NYC.
