There are some people in this world that were born to help others and become great doctors. This is not one of those people. Dr. Shoji was awful. The entire experience was bad, from beginning to end. The people at the front desk were okay… nothing to brag about. The nurse who was helping once we got into the room on the other hand was a whole other story. She was rude, arrogant and a know it all who seemed to know nothing at all. She asked my grandmother if she had taken her blood pressure at home before she came… if she did the nurse wasn’t going to take it again. This was ridiculous. The nurse should not be asking that and she should be taking the blood pressure regardless! She then asked if we had brought along x rays. We told her no we did not. We told her that we didn’t know we needed to bring them.(We assumed that they would already have a copy.) She told us that when we had scheduled the appointment, the person we talked to told us to bring them. We told her that they didn’t tell us to bring anything. She argued that we must not have heard them correctly or that WE were the ones that made the mistake. The know it all was wrong again. Then Dr. shoji comes in and this started the laugh fest with my mom and I while he was talking to my grandmother. He was completely ridiculous. He was also rude, arrogant and a know it all, but he was also uncaring, disrespectful, he talked over us, he interrupted a lot, he was awful at listening to what the patient had to say and he was an all around horrible doctor. There were three of us there and we all walked away laughing because we couldn’t believe how awful of an experience it was.

I too did not have a good experience with this doctor. I too went to him on a referral from another doctor. I took x-rays of my hips with me. After looking at one of the x-rays upside down, he determined that I needed hip replacement surgery in one or maybe both hips. My wife and I pointed out to him that he was looking at one of the x-rays upside down and we asked him if my hips were the cause of my pain. You won’t believe his response: «Probably not the cause of your pain but you need the hip replacements anyway within the next 5 to 20 years, so why not do it now?’» We left the office thinking that this doctor had a Mercedes or maybe even a Lamborghini that he need to pay for.

Took a three minute look at my ankle, and a fifteen second glance at my x-rays. He told me I hurt my ankle. I knew that since I was on crutches, and I had to be referred from another doctor to go see Dr. Shoji in the first place. He didn’t identify what was hurt, and didn’t even pay attention so some parts of the injury until I asked him to do so. He said it would be better in a month to four months. He offered no course of action, he just tried to usher me out of his office. I had to ask him for any stretching or other therapy he could recommend. He said, «yes do some stretching and walk around.» It’s been about 8-months and I’m still not even 90%. I’m not a fan of this dismissive and inattentive attitude from doctors. So many patients suffer, especially those with poor health coverage. Because he wrote me off, it’s virtually impossible for me to get coverage to see another orthopedist or even better a physical therapist. Thanks for nothing, Dr. Shoji!
