Hard to get to(drove by twice), but well worth it! Tacos are delicious! Food is ready 5 – 10 minutes after ordering with reasonable prices. I highly recommend this place if you enjoy a delicious authentic meal! I personally love a good hole-in-the wall place and this is it. I have been here at least 5×3 of them past 7pm and I felt completely safe. It’s a convenience store?! There are many people of all walks of lives coming in and out lol. Anyways, try it out way better than El Rodeo!

Tacos Rojas is by far the best Mexican food you can get in Roanoke. Don’t be turned off by the fact that it’s inside a somewhat sketchy convenience store. I know it seems unconventional but you won’t be disappointed. The ingredients used are fresh and it’s evident upon first bite. The two times that I’ve gotten take out from Tacos Rojas so far have been nothing but pleasant experiences. Everyone who works at Stop-N-Shop/Tacos Rojas are friendly and make you feel welcomed. The food comes out quickly and I’ve never had to wait longer than 10 minutes. The steak tacos are a must and taste amazing with fresh cilantro and onions. They taste like they’re straight out of Baja. The salsa that is provided with most items is delicious but spicy. So buyer beware. Tell your friends about this place because it should be the most popular Mexican place in town. It puts El Rodeo to shame.

If you are looking for the freshest Mexican food in town, get over to Tacos Rojas! TR is located in a convenience store on 13th Street just across Memorial Bridge from Grandin Village. They appear to have one cook but the man at the counter also lends a hand. Lunch appears to be their busy time but even walk ins get their order in about 10 minutes. Not a bad wait for food of this quality. Everything is made to order. They have a big menu for such a small place but it is fresh. I had Pollo Asado and it was great. Very spicy but well balanced by the cilantro and lime. I can’t wait to work my way through more if the menu. It’s going to be a great adventure!

Just moved to Roanoke and tried pretty much every Mexican place around. Tacos Rojas hands down was my favorite. Authentic Mexican food, great prices and now my go to place for Mexican. Plan to get take out because they don’t have much of a restaurant, just a few tables outside. In regards to other posts this place is 100% safe

The food is good. The place seems run down — definitely take out only. I was a bit surprised by the prices. It’s no cheaper than a sit down restaurant. For a convenient store that looks sketchy you’d expect better prices. Some other reviews say that it is the best in Roanoke. I can agree that the food is good and Roanoke has limited options for authentic Mexican food. This is my second time eating here. The tacos are good. Salsa was eh. They also didn’t give me the green salsa which I think is better. Also the tamales are good. Don’t get me wrong — I love dives, but this place was lacking in value for price.

I popped into here to get some goodness after reading the review in The Roanoke Times. Don’t order at the restaurant menu, instead go to the cashier. Next time I will call ahead because I felt funny standing there waiting even though it was probably less than 10 minutes. This is a total take out spot, while there are some tables and chairs outside they don’t look very sturdy and the neighborhood is meh. Ok during the day and no one will bother you, but I wouldn’t go at night alone, that’s all. I hope they make enough money to move somewhere nicer. Now, the food! OH dear lord, delicious. Those salsas were so fresh and tasty. Both had a kick and I couldn’t tell you the flavors, but they were both divine(I think the green one I liked a bit more). There may have been a smidge too much cheese on my Arroz con Pollo and I highly suspect it was mozzarella which is a weird choice, but I really look forward to trying more from this place. The review said if you don’t call ahead you can wander the store and check out the Mexican items. UM nope. Not much to wander. Quite possibly the smallest convenience store I’ve ever been in. Here is one price, too: Cup of Noodles: 89 cents. :D Their menu is on their Facebook page — the picture here cuts off the Tortas, which look amazing.

Best Mexican food around! The real deal if you like authentic stuff. I got the Carnitas Tacos with Avocado and Cilantro! This place reminds me of all the good joints back in Chicago. Delivery by Fetch too.

They would NOT honor a gift certificate that was valid(good). Manager made a remark about ‘whites’ trying to bankrupt him.

Saw a positive review on Unilocal so thought we should give it a try. Located in a no name convenience store on thirteenth street about a half block from Black Dog Salvage. There were a couple of scruffy guys outside and a couple of more inside. Frankly this place is sketchy looking but to be honest everyone was very nice including the biker dude who very solicitously offered me the key to the men’s room while we waited for our order. The inside is dominated by convenience groceries, beer and Latino beverages. Unless I had read the Unilocal review I would have assumed I was in the wrong place. Hidden on the right, in the corner, was a door with a menu on it. About this time the clerk noticed us and signaled that we should give him the order. He was very nice, said he had not seen us before and wondered how we heard of the place. When I told him I had read a Unilocal review he had not heard of it. I highly recommend this place. The food was great. The venue was very sketchy but that kind of adds to the charm. I will be back but only in the daylight. We ordered three kinds of tacos: Hard Tacos — can choose between beef, chicken or carnitas, we chose beef. These were good Tex-Mex style tacos with lettuce, cheese and onions. Lightly spiced, not greasy at all. Soft Tacos — same choices served on a flour tortilla, we chose chicken This was sliced chicken breast also with lettuce, cheese and onions. Could not tell if the meat was spiced which probably does not matter with the salsa. Good but definitely my least favorite, probably because I am not crazy about flour tortillas. Carnitas — served on corn tortillas. My favorite. These came garnished with cilantro and a lime. A side of Pico de Gallo $ 2.99(about a pint) This was very fresh finely diced onions, cilantro, jalapeños and tomato. This was treat and we put it on everything … Yum. A side of Guacamole $ 2.99(filled an 8 oz styrofoam cup) Very fresh avocado, maybe a little onion and jalapeño. Very good.

Agree with previous reviews, great tacos definitely best in Roanoke. Very authentic. It is not unsafe, my daughter and I have never had a problem getting takeout. Enjoy!

This place is absolutely terrific. The neighborhood isn’t great, keep your guard up a bit, but the food is outstanding. Absolutely delicious. Edit — I first wrote this review 10 months ago. My opinion of this place has only improved. I’ve eaten here a dozen or more times since, recommended to numerous friends, and my experience continues to be the same: excellent food from all over the menu. Some of the best I’ve ever had, San Antonio included. ONEMINORCAVEAT: the Tupperware container full of pastries should be viewed with suspicion. The first pastry I got was amazing, but the second time I opened the lid to reveal mold on all the pastries. Which means they’re fresh and not loaded with preservatives, but that’s not much consolation…

This take-out Mexican food is the real deal. We’ve tried the street tacos — chorizo, chicken and fish. All delish. The complex flavor of the chile rellenos is a treat. The beef enchiladas with rice and beans is a really tasty dish. This is not standard ‘americanized’ version of mexican food. From the outside, you may be a bit hesitant to go in, but trust me, it’s worth it. Really fresh, authentic food — all at really fair prices.
