Salvation Army

I have been shopping here since May 2015 my complaint is the men’s pants are not correctly sized the tag says 46 waist when I get home the tag sewed into the pants says waist size 40 nearly are the clothes have incorrect sizes on them. also they are slow to open a new register when the lines get long. I find most of the employees are cold and distant.

Man. What happened to this store?
I used to make a weekly visit looking at everything from mens t shirts to records to glassware to electronics. I walked in today and started looking thru the mens t shirts and they now average about $ 4 each. The range I saw was from $ 2.99 to $ 7.99. They all used to be .99 cents. WTF happened?
Crazy thing is the line was wrapped around the store. Maybe the joke is on me but really guys, you are supposed to be a thrift store. Nothing thrifty about those prices.

Great deals on everything! We live on a low budjet and I can always depend on this store for my clothing and housewares. Great pices and great people. Staff has always been very polite and helpful. For $ 20.00 I really afford a nice outfit… coat and all. Love the «Senior Citizen» day on Wed. with 25% off. They also have special sale days and sales while you are shopping. Quality items, very clean store, huge selections.

We ended up buying 7 books for $ 1. We got the 5 for a $ 1 special and they were giving 33% off if you sang and danced at the register. Pretty awesome deal. The staff was fun and friendly. I wish they had a larger selection of books. But I will check in again. Thanks again for a wonderful shopping experience! :)

The best salvation army in the area. Lower prices and better quality things. Cleaner than the rest. It can be very busy, but totally worth it.

I haven’t shopped here but it is my favorite place to donate. The staff makes it easy for you to donate. They are quick to come out and remove things from your car while you fill out the donation receipt. Always cheerful and grateful.

Store was well organized, lots of selection, and good deals. If you look hard enough, you can find great things. I got a kitchen island cart in great/​new condition for $ 40, compared to buying it at walmart for $ 130.
I got professional/​office clothes. My boyfriend got some clothes but he was interested more in the electronics.
Nothing bad to say.

This is one of the largest Salvation Stores in the area and has a lot if variety. There was a fantastic selection of women’s clothing, and many of the items seemed somewhat newer and in good condition. There were also a bunch of clothes with the tags still on them, and many clothes from Target that were brand new. Overall, it’s definitely worth stopping by!

My mom was telling me about this location, so I decided to give it a shot this morning since there was a big sale going on.
When I got there, I was impressed with the size and selection of the stuff. Tons of clothes, furniture, home goods and more. Plenty of dressing rooms, and the prices can’t be beat.
I only give it three stars for a few reasons. For starters, today was a huge sale, and you would think they would have been more prepared. They weren’t, and that’s where the disappointment sets in. I mean, it wasn’t a secret that this sale was going on, and they had one register open. The wait was tremendous! Horrible, actually. How do you advertise and only have one register person working, and a side register with cash only? I was flabbergasted.
You would think it was black Friday shopping when you walked in. It was a mad house! I was just really upset that they didn’t seem prepared for the amount of people that showed up, and there didn’t seem to be any relief in sight. Also, the lines to the waiting room were tremendous as well, and I don’t know why the better half of them were locked up. Granted, it was between 9 and 10 AM here, but there was plenty of staff on the floor to help alleviate and direct foot traffic at the registers and the dressing rooms.
Overall I would return to this location in the future as it seems to have an awesome selection of stuff, but don’t bother going on a sale day unless you want to stand in line for at least an hour.

Such a very busy location for donations, always has a line like it is ¹²⁄₃₁.
However the staff are great & very helpful & do request that you stay in your car.
I was there today at 9am dropping off a very nice futon & I asked the young man «why are you guys always so busy»?
he replied we are the largest in sales, volume & donations in the USA?
WOW!
I have not been in the store, however the bride loves it as she has bought Talbots, J Jill & Parisian stuff here more than once.

YUCK. Absolute garbage in this place. Picked over, unorganized, total junk. Don’t bother. Sally’s on 4^th or bust!

First off, This location is very clean and organized, and has an excellent selection of stuff. The main problem I have is they charge WAY to much. I primarily shop for records, collectable glassware and electronics. They charge a dollar for records, while other locations charge $.50. The glassware prices are outrageous!, they charge retail prices for stuff, so it’s hard to find worthwhile deals for resellers. The electronics are ridiculously priced as well, $ 40 for a tube TV! You can get them for $ 3 at other spots. They should be charging about a third of what their prices are! I’ll Take a less organized pile to search through any day over this place. Not worth the trip.

This is like the most epic Salvation Army in all of Michigan. They have a huge ass selection of everything. Everything is pretty much here. The staff is super nice, but the only reason why it has 4 stars is because the intercom announcements can get irritating after a while. I mean, they pretty much announce the same things about every 8 – 10 minutes, no joke.
That won’t stop me from shopping though! The prices are reasonable. Definitely visit this Salvation Army! I don’t think you’ll regret it.

I love this store. It’s giant, very clean and friendly. Kids week brings me in every time, toys are always clean and moderately priced, and at 50% off you can’t beat it. I’ve found new kids clothing with tags on it many times. I do find some items are a little overpriced but it doesn’t completely turn me off from this store.
We have also used this store to drop off donations and we’ve always had a great experience. They don’t even make you get out of your car, they unload everything for you and it’s a breeze!

I’ve been coming to this Salvation Army since I was in high school and it was half the size (and seemingly half the prices!), and I still make the drive up from Royal Oak to visit it.
PLUSES:
It’s HUGE (an employee told me a while back it’s the biggest one in the country?). It’s also smack-​dab in the middle of Oakland County, which means you can get some really amazing name-​brand designer stuff in great shape, sometimes with the price tags still on. My two favorite finds ever are a pair of brand-​new Gucci slingback heels and a pair of Armani Exchange pants.
It’s spick-​and-​span, and has many nice touches that make it feel «fancier» than any other thrift store I’ve been in. There are plenty of dressing rooms, and they’ve got a TON of merchandise.
If you can catch a good sale, you can really score… last week I wandered in as they were having a «Five Green Tags for Five Dollars» sale, and scooped up a pair of Lucky Brand jeans, Ralph Lauren jeans, and three adorable shirts for a grand total of five dollars! YAY!
MINUSES:
I’m not sure if they hired new management that realized how much a lot of these items are worth when they’re brand new, but at some point in the past fifteen years the prices have really gone through the roof. I’m no snob, but $ 12 for a pair of pre-​owned work khakis? No thank you! My mom (who is an antiques dealer) also mentioned how much the prices over in the housewares/​collectibles section have gone up. More power to them if they’re collecting that money to help people in need, but does it do any good if you pick something up and then put it back down just as fast because of the price?
My personal bias, but I would strongly urge you to completely avoid the BIG sales (they often have them around Labor Day, etc)…50% off your entire purchase means you’ll be waiting in a checkout line that LITERALLY wraps around the entire interior of the store. The one and only time I was foolish enough to traipse in there during one of those sales, I took one look at the line, guessed it would be AT LEAST an hour to an hour-​and-​a-​half wait, and walked right back out.
OVERALL:
I’m still in love with this place, and their day-​to-​day sales make it possible to score some really amazing brand-​names on limited budget! I highly recommend you visit at least once, if you haven’t already!!!

I have found so many nice items here, but you have to dig a little. You need to have some time to look around for things. Some of the great items I have found: Like new Banana Republic wool peacoat for $ 14.99, new childrens Ralph Lauren jacket for $ 14.99, various cleaning supplies and household items for .99, brita water filters, childrens books, pet supplies, business attire (name brand, like new), perfumes, nice picture frames, bath and body works items, high-​end face creams and products
Really, you have to go on a regular basis to find things. They are getting really picked over now because I think a lot of other people have discovered that you can find really great things here. They also offer a student/​college discount with ID on certain days. Years ago when they first opened, the selection was better along with the prices. Yes, some of the prices have been high in the past couple years and the selection is lacking.

A solid SA location.
Pros:
HUGE. Especially large selection of women’s apparel and accessories (as most thrift stores seem to be slanted towards the ladies in terms of quantity. Women stereotypically shop more, therefore have more to donate?). A good deal of impressive brand names. About 6 spacious fitting rooms. A unique section of discount cosmetics in the front — Cover Girl, Rimmel, Sally Hansen foundations, powers, nail polishes, lip glosses. All of the packaging was definitely worse for wear, but it was all still sealed (although not pretty). And 99 cents!!!
Cons:
Pricier than other SAs. I asked about getting a shirt off of a mannequin that i was in LOVE with, and they denied me, saying I just had to wait until they changed the mannequin clothes with the next season. Really? REALLY? A thrift store being uppity enough to deny a customer a piece of clothing they’d like to buy. I kind of laughed at that. Also, they had a sale starting at 5:00 where all men’s apparel would be 25% off. After I checked out with $ 60 worth of merchandise (I don’t mess around with my thrift store shopping), it was exactly 4:56, and they would not give my male friend behind me the discount on his clothes. Rather they asked us to back up and wait 4 minutes, THEN come back and check out. Seriously… they need to check the name on their sign and see that it does not say Nordstom’s on it. You’re a thrift store, act like it.
Overall, it takes a lot for me to not love a thrift store. And at the end of the day, I walked out with $ 60 of sweet goods. I give it a thumbs up.

Chris M is right — this is the best of the best of Salvation Army Thrift Stores in the area. First, it’s HUGE. Second, there are tons of good finds here. I don’t know if it’s the folks that live in the area, but I’ve found lots of cool kitschy things here for a fair price. The jewelry section is amazing too.
Just try to go first thing in the morning if possible. No matter when I am here, it seems to be packed full of people.
Do a little digging and get payed back in scoring some one-​of-​a-​kind stuff.

I love this location for donating! Whenever my husband and I pull a few boxes or bags together we always take it here for donations. The staff who works here is really awesome. They are waiting outside for you, you don’t even have to get out of your car. All we do is roll the window down and pop the trunk open and before you can even fill out your tax form they are done and sending you on your way.
I’ll be honest I have never actually been inside of the store, only dropped off, but I can say they are always busy whether it be in the front for shoppers or in the back for donor’s.

The best of the best when it comes to Salvation Army’s. The amount of clothes, mens/​womens/​childrens, is just stunning. Looking for a VHS of ET? Thirty of them, just waiting for you. Hell, we found the same damned knives we bought over a dozen year ago for sale here, 25 cents a piece. I mean, it literally has EVERYTHING. Mind you, the prices are high as other reviewers have said, but you also get quality AND quantity. You really cannot imagine asking for a bigger, better selection at a dang thrift store.
I should make the note that if you are trying to find ~ironic indie t-​shirts~ and ~vintage beautiful things~, this store is picked over. But if you’re looking for a costume party, if you’re looking for a huge never ending selection of records/​books/​etc, if you’re looking for housewares, if you’re willing to dive in, you won’t be let down.
