Bouncers that are on a power trip? No, thanks. There are so many other options… don’t settle for this.

The manhattan is different and delicious. Good selection of quality scotches, bourbon, and craft beers. Relaxing ambiance provided you don’t get ambushed by a bar crawl with 30 college students. Their kitchen is not yet up and running, but they are working on it.

One of, if not the, best places to get a cocktail or quality beer. Drinks are made to stun so a ride home is advisable, but make arrangements to get your butt here either way.

I like the Commonwealth Pub. Granted, I’ve only been there three times, and all of them were on a Sunday Funday night… but my experiences have all been positive. It’s hard for me to write this review because of my affection and nostalgia for Monty’s Korner. It should be a testament to how much I do like this new place that I’m willing to accept its existence at all! Firstly — it’s gorgeous inside. No more smelly black-and-white tiles, gone are the tackily charming flags from around the world and piddly flat screen TV. In its place is a pub that has a decidedly upscale British equestrian vibe. Strange I know, but this seems to be the theme. Tasteful hunting, game and equestrian touches round out the rich décor. It’s subtle enough that you might miss this, however. The taps are PLENTIFUL with wonderful craft beer, and similar to Victoire, the handles are all slim and identical. Boring? Maybe. Sleek? Yes. There’s a nice cocktail menu in which I’ve dabbled. Decent but not the highlight here. Large televisions and mirrors. Reminds me of some city pubs in London. I’m sure there’s room for some douche here on weekend nights, particularly given the location. Maybe it’s a good thing the bouncers are tyrants? Most importantly, the bathrooms have been completely re-done, not just renovated. Different locations, separate men’s and women’s. Hallelujiah! On a quiet night, the Commonwealth is a wonderful place for a date. Dimly lit tables, opulence without garishness and a variety of quality selections. I’m not sure I’m willing to visit it on a Thurs-Sat night for fear of tainting this impression. I’ll be back here again regularly on quiet nights, for sure.

Best Manhattan of my life. Initially, I was a little dismayed when my request for an Old Fashioned was turned down because they didn’t have all of the ingredients, but the owner/bartender quickly directed me toward their Manhattan. Warned me first off that it wasn’t ‘typical,’ but claimed it was very good nonetheless, so what the hell — it was probably the next best thing. I must have watched him pour ten different kinds of booze to mix together, so needless to say — I was sort of terrified for my well-being if I consumed that thing. I think he also mentioned an artichoke based vermouth was in it? Finished with a giant cocktail ice cube and a bourbon cherry, somehow… someway… it /worked/. It was incredible. The boy got some sort of lighter gin drink, which led us to discovering that they have their own brand of alcoholic seltzer drinks. All sorts of fruity flavors, tastes like sody-pop, and(drum roll pls) gluten-free! Apparently you can buy some of them in a few select Wegmans? We sampled a few and they were all very good. The interior is gorgeous. The taps are beautiful. I loved the mirrored ceiling. There’s space for larger and more intimate groups. Black leather furniture, drapes, perfect lighting. It’s just a sexy place, the end.
