A go to sushi spot. I love everything about this place from the sushi, to the udon, to the katsu. A very authentic spot. The sushi chef definitely takes his time because he puts wasabi underneath the fish on the sushi pieces. I also love their takoyaki which is fried octopus

Waited for more than 40 minutes! Very slow! Sashimi was frozen, felt icy. Soya sauce was not the same brand, they buy cheap Chinese soya sauce for cooking and put it in the Japanese soya sauce bottle, very dry salty, very disappointed! Server was nice so I’ll give t 2 stars, else 1 star for sure.

Truely a gem in rochester and the best Japanese/sushi restaurant here. Although its located in a not so busy plaza, the food was amazing! Run by a cute elder couple, they really know how to serve authentic food. The sashimi was delicious, and to be honest i was worried that it might have that freezer taste to it like some here in roc, but it didn’t at all. Highly recommend getting the fish here. Despite the slow service, my friends and i didnt mind at all considering the two were very friendly and the food was worth waiting for. Even if youre not close to the gates area the drive over would be worth it.

This is a cute little family owned sushi joint. My bf and I enjoyed a nice ramen dinner here. The ramen was fatty(how i like it) and much better than furoshiki for sure, tho I would have preferred more salt. The pork in the ramen bowls are simply to die for! I could just eat the pork and be happy. We also got the takoyaki, oh how yummy that was! The sauce is flavorful and the presentation is adorable with all the flakes, it looked like they were moving! We also ordered some sushi. We got a tuna roll and something else… unfortunately I forgot. …anyways, not the best sushi. The tuna roll’s fish seem old and it was very small rolls too. I would come back here to try their other dishes, but definitely would not try anymore sushi rolls.

Came here with a few friends for sushi and ramen. Everything that we ordered was either average out below average. The fish in the sushi rolls was tasty, but the rolls themselves were nothing special. Also, it’s a small restaurant, so they probably don’t need more than one waitress, but it took a long time to get our food. I would not make the trek out here again for either the sushi or the ramen.

I go here all the time. When I drove by their old location, it was taken over by U of R medicine. I lost hope. Then a quick look to my left and there it was! Although the service can be slow at times especially when it’s busy since it’s just the husband and wife working, the sushi is worth the wait! It’s authentic, delicious, and most important… TASTY! I get the spicy combo(spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy shrimp) for $ 14! What a steal. That comes with soup and salad. So a full meal plus tip is $ 20. Not to bad. If you want authentic and don’t mind a little wait then come to Edoya. *EDIT* the Tuna and shrimp were great. The salmon… Well that’s a different story. Never had I had a bad experience here and I wrote the post as I was waiting for my food. The salmon had a really bad fishy smell. And it was orange/brown in color. I thought salmon was supposed to be bright orange? I’m guessing they use the good part for sashimi and use the scraps for the rolls. Now I’m unhappy. Went from five star to three.

This is the best sushi I’ve had in Rochester. I would compare it to Long Island/NYC Sushi. Very authentic, it’s your little sushi joint where the entire Resturant is in one room. Everything was made was fresh, you could tell. I went with 4 other people and I think we ordered everything on the menu. The appetizer we ordered was phenomenal, it was actually by mistake(one of the things they brought us), but it was good. The other appetizer we actually ordered was great as well. The rolls were really good, A wide variety to chose from and each one of them was excellent. I don’t think there was one that I didn’t like. My recommendation is the Adoya Roll(sweet) and the Fire Roll(spicy). The service was awesome as well. We all got hot tea and every time our cups were getting towards the bottom, the server would come right over and fill them up(I loved the tea as well!) I will be returning here for sushi. I give them my highest recommendation! P. S., the pricing is very, very reasonable!

Authentic Japanese food. Definitely better than other knock off Japanese restaurants. A bit of driving to get there but it’s a good alternative to Shiki.

After being seated, you get hot towels to wipe your hands. A husband and wife runs the place. The hot tea is just green tea like most Japanese restaurants. We ordered the takoyaki, first time trying it and it’s a creamy octopus ball. It was good, but not amazing. The shrimp tempura roll was wrapped so loose, everything fell out. It had iceberg lettuce and shrimp tempura and that was it, so disappointing. The maguro(tuna) was very good. The chicken katsu came with the ginger salad dressing and a miso soup. The chicken katsu was too soft and not crunchy at all. The dragon roll did not enough eel and there was too much avocado, all I tasted was avocado. The uni was okay.

This review is for when Edoya was located at its old location(still the same plaza). What I love about this place: 1) Good Pork Katsu Don(One of the best Katsu Don around the town) 2) Good Kaisen Don 3) Good Takoyaki I stopped by Edoya for Katsu Don once in a while even though it was rather far of a distance from where I lived back in Rochester. Still would go back for some Katsu Don if I could.

No worries, they’re still in the same plaza but a couple buildings over to the left. I can understand why they moved. It’s slightly bigger with more tables and leg room inside while still maintaining the authentic small Japanese sushi restaurant style. Luckily it’s still ran by the same owners who are husband and wife. One of the reasons I continue to come back is they’re such kind people. The husband mainly runs the sushi bar, and the wife mainly runs the kitchen. Hands down this place has the best Unaju(Eel on rice). Generous thick amounts of cut eel on top of rice. This alone should satisfy your eel craving. The nigiri has very fresh fish, and it’s nicely formed with the perfect amount of rice on the bottom. I’ve now been here a few times, and it never seems to disappoint me. Don’t judge from the size or outside appearance, a warm friendly couple and spectacular food awaits inside.
