Lakeshore is a great place to stop by, especially if you are into the college rock/independent label scene. Everything is neat and organized, which makes albums easy to find. An album that I am planning to buy is going to be released this week, and I stopped in today to check and see if the business was planning on selling it. The owner was very friendly, and even looked up where it was shipping-wise so that I could come get it as soon as it comes in. All in all, this is a great little shop. Record Store Day is April 18th this year!

If you are looking for an old fashioned music store, then this is the place to go. It has all sorts of used CDs, vinyl, movie/band posters, and lots of other little odds and ends. The staff is great and very helpful if you are looking for something in particular. They have listening stations where you can check out some of the stuff they offer, including a lot of the independent music that they have in the store. Its a very retro place and I remember going to places like this a lot when I was younger and looking for a certain CD(or even cassette tape).

Lakeshore is an ecstatically eclectic record store… I’ve been a fan of Andy’s store for quite some time. I stop by there from time to time to find music that nobody else has… it is a «must visit» store.

When your music just has to be tangible. Interesting choices for cheap used CDs!

This is my favorite music shop in Rochester. I love the pricing(new and used), the fact that I can listen to everything(not just the Listening Tower picks), the friendly staff, the used DVD collection(been snatching up «must sees» at $ 3 a pop and schooling my teenage nephew), the jazz library, and lastly the section that I call The Essentials: all for $ 10 or less! Why not a full 5 stars? To be brutally honest, lately, a powerful and distracting aroma has been wafting up from the floor boards. Even with that said, as long as I’m buying CDs… which I don’t see myself stopping… Lakeshore is the place.

Lakeshore isn’t the largest store in town, but it certainly ranks with the best of them. The vinyl section is smaller than what I would like, but I suppose you can’t have everything. I like coming to Lakeshore because they carry more of the newer music that I am interested in and have a few bands that the other stores don’t usually stock. Even with the small vinyl section and comparatively limited selection, I am always able to find something that I don’t have.

This place is one of the things I miss since I moved away. I love how everything about this place screams independent record store. They have a great variety of bands, mainly independent/alternative pop/rock bands, but they have other kinds of music available too. They’re always playing great music in the store, and the staff is always psyched to talk tunes. They also have a great selection of dirt cheap used CDs which is great if you’re looking for something in particular. However, even their normal albums are well-priced. Lakeshore also sells some other great band merch, posters, vinyls, and music magazines & DVDs, so many things to tempt you when you just wanted to buy a CD! I love it. Of course, the drawback to most independent record stores is that they won’t always have the bands and albums you’re looking for, but not much they can do about that considering the size of the store. I highly suggest stopping in to browse CDs, that’s what they’re best for.

OK, this used to be the Lakeshore Record Exchange – and what’s more, it used to be near the lake shore so that its name actually made sense… once, long ago. It’s gone through at least three moves since then, and you’d think that the recent name change might have been an opportunity to take stock of its land-locked status, but no such luck. Ah, well. This is a good store, despite the fact that they think they’re better than they are. I think you’ll know what I mean. Though that smarminess irks me, I have made any number of good finds here over the years and it is definitely one of the better places around town to look for indie releases and imports. Just try to keep conversation with the black-clad record clerks to a minimum, if you know what’s good for you…
