Great place for rolls! I’ve been here many times since starting school at U of R. They used to have an all you can eat deal — but looks like us college hungry college kids put that one out of commission. Either way, their rolls are very reasonably priced and better quality than average. Just stopped by last night and it looks like business is doing well. This may be because of their groupon deal(hint hint, nudge nudge) if you’re looking to save even more money. Worth a try if you’ve never been, and get lots of rolls! :D

We frequent Plum House and always have a good meal! The sushi is so fresh and tasty that this has become my go-to spot for it. The service can be a tad slow sometimes which is why I am giving it 4 stars. If I were just rating the food, it would be hands down 5 stars!

I have had a pretty good experience at Plum House. I did come in initially because of a Groupon, but I have returned a couple of times since than. It is an extremely easy-to-get-to location and has tons of street parking near them. I have never had an issue or more than a minute walk to the restaurant. Décor is nice and welcoming, to me it has a nice selection of rolls and sushi. The only complaint I have is though the waitresses are nice, my experience is they tend to get a bit frustrated since we typically take some time to order and just want to sit and chat, but once they know we will be there a while, they are great. For the quality, I think its a good price. My friend and I always try to sit at the bar since the sushi chefs are extremely accommodating and have made us unique rolls.

What a lovely meal. My partner and I had a splendid sushi meal. The miso was nice plus salad was a refreshing start to our special for two meal. At 39.00 you get miso, salad and a huge plate of sashimi, nigiri and 2 chef’s choice rolls. Perfect amount with some sake which was good. Tuna was best, salmon and yellowtail could have been a little fresher. Overall tasty and super nice atmosphere.

Are you having friends over for some drinks and want some dynamite, impressive finger food for your guests? Get a take out tray from Plum House. Very much worth the money. I always just give them a price target and let the sushi chef pick rolls and sashimi for me. Always delicious, impressive and a decent price.

I’ve been coming here for years, and have eaten in & gotten delivery. They are a little expensive for delivery because the $ 30 minimum(so it only really works with 2 people, not 1), but the food is always delicious. I am completely in love with their salad dressing on the house salad and always ask for extra. Seriously, I could live off of that stuff. You really can’t go wrong with any of their food. I usually get the chef’s choice sushi dinner and my husband often gets the spicy tuna and spicy salmon. We love it, and especially love living so close. For the quality of the food, the price is worth it.

The special rolls were nothing short of amazing and the staff was great. They also put a lot of effort into the presentation. And the sushi was very fresh and well made

I haven’t been in a while, but glad I stopped back in. They were going through some renovations at the time. Loving the new look. Our waitress was bubbly and very accommodating. I ordered the steak teriyaki kitchen dinner. It was cooked to perfection. The sauce on the beef was amazing. I wanted to lick the plate. I also ordered some Shumai, which were delightful. I highly suggest a cup of their hot green tea. It’s always been a favorite of mine. I’m glad I re connected with this place, and look forward to going back.

I loved the restaurant’s interior design but the food was average. The waitresses were okay, but not very attentive. We had to call them over a lot. The food took a while to arrive. The chicken tempura was very good, but the beer was room temperature. Also, even though the tempura said it came with rice, they didn’t serve the rice until I mentioned it. The fried cheesecake was too rice for my taste, and the tempura ice cream was average.

Calling in ahead of time, I was told to go ahead and walk in. Having arrived, I was immediately seated. The restaurant was decently filled being 7pm on a Saturday. I wasn’t offered the hot towel in the beginning like other tables were, but that was no biggie. I started off with the Fried Ika which I thought was bland, rubbery, and the breading was sliding off. I then ordered a couple rolls with some nigiri. I went for the most expensive roll on the menu which was the Banzai(14.95) and the Sweetheart Roll. Both were very tasty but slightly rolled loosely. I ordered Ikura, Squid, Tuna, Salmon, Fluke, Scallop and Mackerel for the nigiri. I don’t have any complaints but the Ikura and Scallop are the highlights. I then went ahead and ordered one more Ikura, and two more scallop. I did notice the first scallop was a whole one on top of rice, the two that came after was one scallop split in two. So I received two halves instead of a whole scallop on top of rice. I will mention, I love the décor and presentation of the sushi. I also will add, I had«Ting» as my waitress who wasn’t that talkative but did come off as a genuinely nice person with a kind smile.

The interior is pretty nice and has a nice feel to it. The servers I felt were kind of mediocre and half-hearted when they were serving us to our table and our orders. I ordered a cucumber w/eel roll and the portion size was ok for the price, but the rice itself was super mushy, usually I expect it sort of firm. The sushi wasn’t the best in my opinion and pricey for the quality I received. The hibachi I got was chicken and steak combo. The chicken was really dry and had no flavor, but the steak was very well done and had a nice flavor to it with the fried rice. The vegetables were cooked well also. The price for the hibachi was pretty fair. Overall, I would give it a 3 star because I think the service was mediocre and that the sushi wasn’t the most appealing choice to eat. However I was content with the hibachi; just slightly disappointed with the chicken. I might not necessarily go to this place again, but if it’s for Hibachi, I wouldn’t mind at all.

Definitely one of the best sushi places in Rochester. I have had a hard time finding good simple sushi in Rochester, but this is definitely the place to go for that. They also have bigger rolls that are fancier, but still not deep friend and you can taste the fish. The rolls are also a really good price. The one thing I didn’t like was the xo sauce, which was a wasabi based sauce and I hate wasabi. The service was just ok, the waitress didn’t seem to know a lot about the rolls.

I love sushi and I love this sushi place. It’s convenient for me to get here, it has fast service, and the staff is always friendly. I’ve never eaten in at Plum House but I’m always in and out within a matter of seconds. They always have my take out ready on time and they have never made a mistake with my order. I usually come here for their lunch special which is the greatest deal around. You can opt for either their two roll special or three roll special. Both come with a side salad AND a miso soup. I love their Spicy Monroe Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll when it comes to their«regular» rolls. Special rolls that are my favorites include the Miami Beach Roll and the Yummy Yummy Roll. The Miami Beach Roll has spicy salmon, crunchies, avocado and tobiko. The Yummy Yummy Roll is a bit more to handle with tempura shrimp, spicy tuna wrapped and then topped with crunchy crab and tobiko. Regardless of what you choose, I really don’t think you can go wrong. You can order through grubhub if you’re looking for take-out or delivery. They also sometimes have groupons available for purchase, so make sure you check on that before ordering.

First visit Went with the sushi dinners, chef’s choice and you can pick out a California Roll, or Spicy Tuna Roll or another roll. The place is fairly non de script. It was not crowded, it was around 6 pm on a Thursday. Staff is nice and not in your face. They have an actual bar you can sit at and watch the make you your sushi which is a plus. They also have delivery which is a plus. I’ll go back to try a few other things. For the moment bey it’s worth it, but it’s fresh fish and it’s not gonna be cheap but it was reasonable to be honest.

I came here for lunch and got the sashimi lunch combo. I got a dozen HUGE pieces of sashimi. Unfortunately, the fish was lacking in flavor. I did enjoy the tuna sashimi, but I’ve had better for sure. Even the miso soup seemed diluted and was not as aromatic as it should be. But the meal did fill me up, and so quantity does count for something!

I agree with Naz B, 100%. I have two moods when it comes to sushi: traditional mood, and adventurous. When I’m feeling the traditional thaang, I go to Shiki. When I’m feeling like I want a roll piled with all kinds of awesome stuff, I go to Plum House. I have several friends, originally from the area, and every time we get together we order out a prodigious amount of house special rolls from Plum House. The rolls are always ready when we walk in; if they say they’ll be ready at 5:36PM — they will be. Always right on time with takeout. I’ve never had to wait, and we put in some HUGE orders. The dine-in is also a nice experience. Their salad dressing isn’t my favorite ginger dressing around, but it’s a non-issue. I didn’t come for dressing. I came for creative sushi rolls. They hit the nail on the head when it comes to this. They have a selection of about 20 constant house special rolls, along with some of the more traditional rolls(alaska, california, tekka, unagi, etc), AND they have a couple daily special rolls on the white board. My favorites are the Yummy Yummy roll, the Kamikaze roll, and the Banzai roll. The service has always been pretty good — and I’m a repeat groupon offender. There was only once a couple years ago that I think the genuinely forgot about my table in the corner. That’s been the only bad experience out of a couple dozen, so I don’t even count it anymore. PS — they also have some really rockin’ lunch specials.

I’m a big fan of the Plum House for sushi. I usually do takeout and almost always have my meal ready. Everyone is very friendly! Extra plus if you dine in — recently remodeled!

Omg yes! One of the best sushi’s I’ve had in Rochester. The yummy yummy roll was really good. It was really large and packed with tons of flavor. Not that little dinky stuff, they have at California Rollin. Tiger Claw roll was a little too slimy tasting. The Godzilla roll was pretty good too. Will definitely be back. Prices a little steep though– 12 $ for a special roll, can easily amount to a bill greater than 40 $ for two.
