Rented equipment for a wedding, including a wireless mic. The wireless mic started making and breaking(intermittently cutting to a loud buzz) in the middle of the best man’s speech. We weren’t about to halt things to diagnose, so we went without amplification for the majority of the evening. A large portion of the crowd could not make out the speeches. Huge downer. I told this to the guys at Soundsource, they were very professional about it. We checked the equipment together, and traced the problem to the wireless mic output jack. They offered to refund the rental cost of the mic. I politely suggested that was less than I would have liked. They said that«well, you DID get to listen to music from an ipod all night»(paraphrase). They called me back later and doubled the discount to $ 50. Here’s my dissatisfaction: If I knew that my company’s mistake significantly disrupted an entire wedding, I would have done everything to make sure the customer felt good about their interaction with the company. I don’t feel great about the initial offer of $ 25 off, or the subsequent $ 50. It just doesn’t seem proportionate to the impact it had on the wedding. Would I rent from them again? Tough call. I can imagine the soundsource guys might be frustrated by this review because, from their point of view, they probably think they handled things professionally and reasonably well. I can also imagine a less forgiving customer to respond much more negatively than I did. All in all, it’s a tough call, and the 0 – 5 star rating system does a poor job of capturing the nuances of the interaction.

The guys at Sound Source know what they’re doing! I’ve used them for both purchases and repairs of my sound equipment. They’ve taken care of me for years and as a DJ it’s so good knowing that if something is blown or a loose connection, I won’t have to worry about them trying to upsell me. They’re very thorough with testing equipment and give you all your options. For rentals they have audio and lighting at reasonable prices, if you’d rather handle do it all yourself.

A hidden gem in Rochester! My mother & I were referred there by the guys at The Bop Shop when we were trying to fix her 30 yr old turntable. We went to Norris Dr, saw the sign for Sound Source & drove around back. The entrance is a battered yellow steel door & from the outside it doesn’t seem promising. When you walk in, it’s like one of those scenes from a movie where the light shines down & you hear a chorus of angels! Yeah, very smarmy & dramatic of me to describe it that way but the shop is neat, clean & has ANYTHING you’re looking for: keyboards, guitar strings, audio/video cables, equipment, parts, amps &LOADS of guitars! The groovy dude behind the counter was jazzed at seeing an Akai turntable, disappeared for about 10 secs, came back with a new drive belt & even installed it for us. Then he tested it & had some more advice for a few maintenance tweaks.

Tremendous store, a hidden gem! If you or a loved one is a musician hie on over there… great selection of choice new & used equipment. My son is a bassist/guitar player and we’ve picked up some amazing deals there. If you’ve got gear to trade you can do even better. I’ve also rented audio equipment for various & sundry parties and events. Helpful & friendly staff! Ask them a question… they’ve either got the answer or they’ll research it and get back to ya… and, perhaps, give you a nice ice cream treat from their freezer!

This place is phenomenal. I went in to Sound Source today because I had a technical problem with a guitar that I needed to play at a wedding in the afternoon. The staff was incredibly accommodating, despite being clearly busy, and helped me on short notice. This was representative of the service I have always received at Sound Source. They are friendly, capable, and professional. Definitely my first stop for any music need.
