I keep returning to this diner, hoping that my experience was an aberration. After three visits, I see it’s the norm. Service is great, but food sucks. Scrambled eggs were dry, home fries were half under cooked, other half burnt. Bacon was burnt. I remain hopeful that food will improve, because this diner is convenient, and we need an alternative to Highland Diner in the neighborhood

Loved the service, prices were a little above average. The waitress was very accommodating for my father and I. They needed to update signs if they are out /don’ have something. It was an awkward few minuets after trying to order something, then being told they don’t have it. Maybe it’s to show how much they have to offer, on some days? Not sure, but waitress was very nice about it, didn’t ruin our experience. Would go again! :)

Indigestion and acid reflux attack! Had eaten here a couple times in the past and it was pretty good. In contrast, my last visit was very disappointing. The omelet was tasteless, the toast was lukewarm and barely buttered, and the coffee was somewhat bitter. But the biggest offense … home fries that tasted old and reheated. Within hours, I had indigestion and a recurrence of acid reflux I haven’t had in over a year. And the price? $ 12 for THAT? I will never return. There are better diners that don’t leave you with indigestion and a bad taste.

Convenient, locally owned and the food is awesome. I’ve never been disappointed with the service and the South Wedge Skillet is delicious. Make sure you schedule a nap after eating breakfast here, you’re going to need it.

AMAZINGSAUSAGEGRAVY! you have got to get the south wedge skillet its a layer of eggs and then cheese and then homefries smothered in succulent beautiful sausage gravy. a couple biscuits on the side and you’re home chief! waiting staff is really cool. once i made a girl cry in the booth and everyone was looking at us but the waitress was really good humored about it and she diffused the situation enough that i felt comfortable eating some of my south wedge skillet. i couldn’t finish it at the diner because of extenuating circumstances but they gave me a nice box to use to take it home. i get the south wedge skillet every time im there and whenever someone asks«why the south wedge diner» i say because i gotta get the south wedge skillet its like a garbage plate but for breakfast! you must try the south wedge skillet. five stars

So good. We went for breakfast and I had the corned beef hash(which is truly homemade, not altered can hash) and the pancakes. I was so pleased. The waitress kept our coffees full with very frequent stops. I’m so happy to be around the corner from here. I look forward to trying dinner there too.

This one hovers in the 3.5−4 range. Pretty busy on a Sunday morning, but we got seated fairly fast. The wait staff was very friendly and awesome about checking on our coffee cups. It offers the standard favorites you search for a the local diner-pancakes, French toast, and a LONG list of omelets. Both the BF and I had omelets, which were great – mine with peppers and ham and his with salmon and cream cheese. While nothing shocking that makes me wants to rush back, it’s a great bargain breakfast joint.

Let me start out by saying that I ADORE diners; they are a definite go-to for me. Also, I live in a city that’s kinda, sorta, really obsessed with diners… well, that and explaining that we’re from New York but not, like… New York… Anyway, I can say that this is one of the most unique, unexpected diners if not dining experiences in the general area. When you walk in, you get a solid diner feel. But as you turn the corner, you see a beer and wine cooler(good sign) and then a Buddhist shrine. Not something you’d expect in a diner, but not an automatic disqualification either. Now, once you get the menu, it gets a little more confusing. You see, this isn’t your grandma’s diner(unless she’s used to going to a normal diner/full pan-asian restaurant, in which she sounds amazing and you should call her more)! The biggest pro is that you can go out with a diverse group of friends and everyone can get what they want. The quality of the food is quite good and the prices are just right. However, the reason that they get 4 stars and not 5 is that they’re a bit of jacks of all trade and master of none. Of the the variety of dishes I’ve had there, everything was very good, but nothing blew me away. Perhaps the reason for that is because they have such variety of offerings they can’t concentrate too much on specialties. For quick reference, the South Wedge Diner is good for: –Lazy breakfasts –Informal meetings –First dates(if she’s cool) –Rainy nights –Dinner with your grandma(if she’s cool) –Highland Diner overflow

A good diner with good choices. They have the basic diner menu of egg dishes, home fries, bacon, and sausage. I was turkey bacon in the menu, but honestly I don’t bother with it. Had their breakfast sausage, it was really good. My friend had their Mexican Alarm Clock, and their salsa was very tasty, but not traditional. Don’t expect the usual salsa, however it tasted really good on top of my eggs on a basket. The food was made well, and the service was prompt. I can see why it’s crowded for breakfast.

On this stretch of South Clinton, this is between two diners. Highland Park Diner: Better Food. Pat’s Coffee Mug: Cheaper food. Not bad, but least frequented of the three when in Rochester/Swillburg/South Wedge

Great food and great prices. I have the south wedge skillet a couple times and I have lived to tell the tale! Great dish! It’s good place for quick cheap and good dinner food!

South Wedge is a solid Rochester diner. As many have mentioned they have a wide variety of foods from various cuisine but I usually stick to breakfast and sandwiches. They do a great«melt» and have a few options all served on sourdough bread. They also have waffle fries which is always and a plus. The breakfast is really solid with a wide variety of omelets, benedicts, scrambles and sweet dishes. The portions are very generous and they have a solid homefrie, what more can you ask for? The service is quick enough and even on very busy days they are able to provide decent service and turn tables over pretty quickly.

Enough vegetarian and vegan options; waitress was very accommodating to my diet; didn’t make any mistakes with my order which is usually the case; place is very popular and busy; it was non-stop busy on Saturday morning; recommended:)

If you come over here, come a little closer, I will grab you somewhere down south, and give you a wedgie. Then you’ll be ready to go to the South-wedgie diner. Unfortunately the food is not nearly as much fun as that concept. I was all in love with the place based on the reviews and the description, so I rushed along expecting to find everything much better than at Highland Park(where the owner used to work, I guess). All I found was higher prices for less impressive food. I don’t even remember what my date had, but it was dry and chalky. It was also over $ 10, which she was dismayed about, because she doesn’t usually pay that much and I remember having to take her to Sticky Lips to cheer her up since we’d driven all the way to Rochester for this place. As for me, I got the famous Walnut(or whatever) French Toast, and again, very dry. The syrup was just too sweet and chemical tasting. The toast was both tasteless and dry and even a little burned, and again, overpriced. Why then do I give 3 stars to this really negative experience? Well simply because I always give 3 or more to family businesses as a show of support. But if my experience here was anything to go by, this place will need a lot of support, and a revamp in quality.

The food here is solid and varied. I had a breakfast sandwich that was greasy, cheesy and über tasty. The menu is varied, but the best part is the stirfry section in my opinion. I had squid stirfry in both hunan and spicy sauces, and both were delectable. The salt and pepper fried calamari was not as tasty — something about the batter seemed a bit off. My only negative experience here was the manhattan clam chowder I ordered once. It was chock full of fatty bacon and hardly had any clams — I counted a whole three clam pieces in my bowl. They do have phở on the menu, and I may come back and try it since it looks like some of the folks in the kitchen are Asian and may know how to whip up a good bowl of phở. The service here is attentive and friendly — I’ve never had my coffee refilled so frequently.

I’ve only been here for Sunday brunch — a favorite place to eat after church, though there may likely be a wait, it’s worth it! My favorite is the Eggs in a Basket plate.

The food here is really good. The service that we reviewed here was horrible. The corn beef hash was awesome. Waiting with a mass of strangers then having to attempt to self-sort ourselves by ‘who was here first’- not so awesome. Especially because there are 2 entrances/waiting areas. Please, SouthWedge Diner, I beg you to create a ‘sign in’ sheet for those busy brunch hours. I really wasn’t up for taking on the 6 hungover girls with last nights clothes on to argue as to who arrived first. Our waitress was horrible. I was glad she had a job, but this just wasn’t the one for her. The management appeared non-existent or unable to remedy the massive waits/confusion. Tables sat unbussed for long periods of time while hungry masses stood and fawned over them. My boyfriend finally went up to bring water and coffee to our table(after ordering these things more than 15 minutes before). We watched 3 groups of people get up and leave without receiving their food during our visit… We thought about it but we’re just too hungry & tired to do so after our long run that morning. We never received several items we ordered, but we’re at the point of just wanting to get out of there so dismissed it. However, we’re pretty sure we paid for said items as the bill was unmarked with items ordered– just listed #s/prices. We paid anyway– we just wanted to leave. Goodluck to any who venture here on a busy morning. Order the has and pray it comes to you before you die of starvation/thirst.

Rochester is fortunate to have so many good diners scattered throughout the metropolitan area. While there are many in my neighborhood, I just keep coming back to this one. The breakfast is what keeps me coming back. The Mexican Alarm is an off-the-menu favorite. Today I was in a mood for French Toast, and it was fantastic. The menu overall is wildly varied with an Asian twist.

Have you ever had a huge craving for diner type food with a side of phở or perhaps some squid? Either have I… but you can do that here! A diner that serves Asian cuisine as well might sound sketchy to some, but it’s not too shabby here. After trying the phở here, I would definitely recommend sticking to the diner food!

This place operates like a well-oiled machine! Don’t be deterred by the long line out the door; the hostess will promptly recognize you as a newcomer and get you on the list. The servers are all quick and efficient — don’t be put-off if they don’t make small talk, they are busy!!! The food may take a little longer on a Sunday, but it will come to you hot and fresh. Their breakfast is delicious diner food and the coffee hits the spot.
