Great place to stop if you love sushi. I’m a regular and I’d say 80%of the time is great. It’s perfect for picking up a quick lunch on the run. My faves are the Japanese fried chicken, Miso soup and anything with their tempura batter. Prices may be a little higher than other places in town but it’s worth it.

Not authentic, bad Americanized sushi. No one here is actually Japanese. There are no place to get good sushi in Rochester.

I had never eaten sushi before and my wife suggested we go to a sushi place for her birthday dinner. I thought, «oh, great», but instead I said, «for you, honey». I’m glad I did, because now I like it. I am a vegetarian so, I ate role(name: Avocado role — $ 4) from appetizer section and vegetarian sushi(name: My Favorite Vegetarian — $ 9). Since this was my first time, I can’t claim that it’s better than any other I had tried, but I can claim that I liked the food. I had also requested a small bowl of Sriracha sauce(spicy), in case I can’t swallow the sushi or role(fear: what if I don’t like it, I don’t want to ruin my wife’s birthday dinner), but I didn’t need to use it — the food itself was tasty, didn’t need to add any soy sauce or spicy sauce to cover its flavor and make it «edible food». My wife tried Malbec(wine — $ 5), Miso soup($ 2), sushi with salmon(Name: Golden temple — $ 11) with mango sauce on top, it was good — she had said. My 4 year old(also vegetarian) had tried vegetarian gyoza from appetizer section($ 6) and she liked it too. For desert, we had shared green tea ice cream($ 3) which was creamy, tasty and my four year old approved. People were friendly and chatty. Atmosphere was ambient lighting, no loud ear bursting music and peaceful.

Tried 4 rolls here. Of note: spicy mayo is just not spicy at all and rolls have way too much rice and huge cucumber pieces. The pieces are not cut evenly and some are too big and difficult to eat. The taste was actually decent though. All in all average experience. Wait staff is friendly although our server was a little offended that we left a large piece of eel because we were too full. Their fortune cookies are good but the fortunes don’t make any sense.

Traveling through Rochester. Found this place on Unilocal.Thought I’d give it a try because of the pictures and offer for a free spicy tuna roll with a $ 15 order. The spicy tuna roll was delicious! I also had the Pink Lady roll. It was good, just a little too sweet for my taste. The Wakame salad was delicious. I wouldn’t say it was worth $ 6 because it was a small salad. Overall I would go back to try some other rolls that have unique names.

I’ve had sushi in many cities and restaurants and think they do a great job here. The atmosphere is nice and contemporary, the service has always been good and I’ve always enjoyed my meal. And don’t be fooled by the comments regarding the freshness of sushi in the Midwest. Nearly all sushi has been previously frozen(federal law to kill parasites), so it’s just as fresh in Rochester, Minnesota as it is on either coast. As for the comments I’ve seen regarding parking, it’s in a strip mall, so there is a ton of parking directly in front of the restaurant. Very convenient.

probably more like 2 ½ stars. We’ve been here several times. The food is ok, but nothing«wow’s» me. I usually alternate between bento boxes and sushi rolls. Sushi is mostly bland. For bento I usually get a pork or chicken katsu. The Katsu sauce is a bit too sweet for my liking. The meats are normally good, sometimes too dry. Last time I got take out the waitress handed me my bag and said«I put in two soups on the house. MMM, thanks! Except the soup was just bland. The service has always been friendly and the restaurant is clean, just unremarkable. I think I’d rather go to Ichi Tokyo.

Came from San Diego that has absolutely the best sushi in the world. We tried Ichi Tokyo Cuz people around here said it was the best in town and was seriously unimpressed. We went months without ever trying sushi in rochester again. Finally we come here cuz we just wanted some sushi. Sooo much better. Really impressed. Rolls were creative, tasted as fresh as could be in minnesota, and would definitely recommend to anyone that’s had great sushi somewhere else and are craving a great alternative in rochester. We will definitely be making this place our go-to sushi joint.

I’ve been here many times now, and I’ve enjoyed it every time. It isn’t over-the-top, but you won’t be disappointed. Consistently satisfying.

I make frequent business trips to Rochester from the Twin Cities and have discovered this little gem in an otherwise unassuming strip mall on the«suburban» north side of town. Since my first visit 3 years ago, I try and make Nishiki a destination for my quick lunch stops while I’m in Rochester. I’ve gotten to know the owners and am always impressed by their hospitality and gratitude to all customers from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. During the lunch offering, you can’t beat the value and satisfying portions of the Bento Boxes. They offer a perfect sampling of fresh vegetable salad, rice, entrée of choice(a number of options), edamame, and miso soup. My favorite simple menu item however it their Spicy Tuna Rolls. While other sushi restaurants tend to almost purée their leftover tuna bits mixed into spicy mayo for their spicy tuna rolls, Nishiki offers a coarse hoped tuna that has just the right mix of spicy mayo to give it the flavor I love. I’ve also tried several other traditional and contemporary rolls and am always pleased with the choices. Overall, I am clearly a fan of Sushi Nishiki and love supporting locally owned Mom & Pop businesses that are doing things the right way!

Odd hours. Expensive for what they offer. Difficult parking… just not what you would like for a quick bite or a fun night out.

I had been craving Japanese food for a while and when we discovered that this place was near our hotel, I made the choice to give it a try. I’m so glad we did! I had looked at their Facebook page mementos before heading out and saw that one could order okonomiyaki by special request. I did and was very pleased with the resulting meal! This was one of my favorite things to eat while visiting Japan and Sushinishiki didn’t disappoint me! It was so tasty and they had the correct Japanese style mayo and sauce on top! I also ordered two pieces of Imari sushi which were excellent. My husband ordered California roll and was served a generous eight pieces! He shared with me and I found it very tasty. He also ordered shrimp tempura. It was light, crispy and very tasty. The staff were quite friendly and efficient. My craving was most definitely satisfied and I walked away a very satisfied customer! We will return here if we find ourselves in Rochester again.

Definitely meh. Went one Saturday afternoon, and was told that ‘they were out’ of three different dishes on the menu. If you can’t serve your full menu, you might as well close for the afternoon instead of letting your teenage employees goof off in the back. The actual sushi isn’t that great, and quite overpriced. However, if you are the type that won’t eat real sushi, and prefers designer ‘rolls’ this place has quite a few different ones that cater to a bland, Americanized palate.

If you like traditional, go elsewhere. As a major sushi enthusiest, I was excited to try this«contemporary sushi» which involves putting fruit in the sushi rolls and jacking the price. It’s too expensive for what you get and there are more reasonable places in town. I have noticed that people who are a little afraid to try sushi or have very Americanized pallets tend to like it here alright. A few of the specialty rolls are alright but not worth the price.

Tonkatsu are smallest slices I’ve ever had– all moisture cooked out and hard. Not very good. I do not recommend this place.

We had take out, so I can’t really speak to the service. I had yaki soba that was good, but not great. The veggie gyoza were awesome!!! They had a pretty extensive menu. I’ll certainly head back here the next time I’m in down.

I dragged my feet with trying this place as I am a bit skeptical about sushi in the Midwest after having lived in California for 10 years and having had some good sushi there. Sorry, I am a native Midwesterner, but sushi is not what the Midwest is known for. Anyways, I digress, my husband finally talked Me Into trying it about a month ago. I tried to go in open-minded, but $ 50 later and dissatisfied, my original thoughts had been confirmed. Blah… really no flavor in my salmon lovers roll… overpriced for what you get.:(disappointing

I’ve been here a number of times and tried many of their rolls. My first few experiences were fine. The service has never been great and I think that they’re overpriced for what they offer but they’re really conveniently located and I travel through Rochester on hwy 52 every other week. My last visit couple weeks ago was the worst sushi experience I’ve ever had. Make that the worst food experience I had ever had. I don’t know if it was the fire cracker roll or the golden temple roll but I was deathly ill thirty minutes after eating. I will spare you the details of the effect if had on my digestive system but I was not very pretty for the next 12 to 18 hours. Even though I had a number of okay experiences there, the next time I am able to stomach sushi, I will be driving downtown Rochester or waiting until I get back home :)

My sister and I tried Sushi Nishiki and we absolutely loved it. Both of us are unfamiliar with sushi and were pretty new to it so we got a lot of help from the server who helped us pick 2 different sushi rolls and the potstickers as an appetizer. The food was excellent and it was presented beautifully… it looked like a piece of artwork! I can’t wait to go back!
