Shrimp n grits… it was my next order. Delicious mild flavors, the grits were a creamy comforting consistency. I wish I’d taken a pic, my dish was sauced more than the pic posted on Unilocal. The sauce was full of chunks of tomato, onion, celery etc. The shrimp were large and cooked perfectly tender. I’m eyeballing the chicken and waffles next.

I’ve only been here once and I’m a fan! The food and service are great. I had the chicken and waffles along with the salmon patties plate. Both were delectable. Truly a hidden gem in Rochester that is worth waking up early for.

Besides the coffee, but it’s a diner, and diner coffee sucks, the food was amazing! Cajun catfish and grits. My friends were happy with their meals too.

I live in the 19th Ward so I want the restaurants here to draw folks in, but this was… No, just no. I wish I had my phone with me to get some photos for you all. $ 9.00 cheeseburger Good looong wait for service.(Which is Ok because I expected that based on other reviews) Had to cut some nasty wart like thing off the tomato. Small soggy portion of fries(very small) The ketchup bottle was coagulated with ancient, funky, dark, thick, and sticky residue. Clearly not cleaned or checked for quite some time. I am sure the bottle will haunt me in my sleep. Over a year ago I met some friends here for breakfast and also had a bad experience with the food. Funky smelling/tasting grease on the toast and sausage. It seemed rancid or something, and I think that was maybe the first time I’ve ever left breakfast sausage on my plate. :-) A year seemed enough time to give a second chance. However… I MUST be missing something here because of all the good reviews. AND the place was packed for a mid week lunch. So, I’ll probably try again just to see what I’m missing. Maybe I’ll try the shrimp and grits specialty. I just figured you couldn’t go wrong with a burger.

Pros: — great service and super friendly — best grits I’ve had in Rochester — fresh, perfectly battered fried chicken — tasty and strong coffee — good music Cons: — Beef sausage tasted a little gamey for me Mehs: — pretty average waffle and bread This place is a find for breakfast in Rochester. Definitely worth checking out!

Wow what a find. I was here the day after christmas for breakfast. I had the chicken and waffle everyone raves about and it did not dissappoint. The chicken was well cooked, crispy and moist. Paired with the buttered up waffle, it tasted very good. I’m hoping to try the shrimp and grits next time! I don’t have a lot of experience with Southern food so I am excited to come back~ Tip: I was here at around 10 and 15 minutes later it was packed! There’s not a lot of seating so come early.

The Arnett Café is such a great place to get a great soul food meal. From the piping hot catfish to the chicken and waffles everything here is spectacular I will definitely be back next time for another meal.

Really impressed by this hidden gem of soul cooking! Arnett Café is nestled into the residential sprawl of Arnett Boulevard — it’s easy to miss. Bright and full of warm smiles and welcomes inside. The menu features the usual breakfast spreads but flaunts specials such as jumbalaya, shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles. Fried Cajun fish for lunch on Fridays! Only open for breakfast and lunch, the café hours are limited — but they make up for it with mammoth-sized plates! The cheesy grits are AWESOME and they have a really great version of spicy beef sausage — you must try! I was floored by the chicken and waffles. The chicken was expertly and perfectly fried. The waffle was a tad on the sweet/limp side but honestly who cares when you’re given three beautifully fried bird wings? Come hungry, leave satisfied. Friendly service. A neighborhood winner!

Must go here for southern brunch! I could give them more stars if I could! My fiancée got the jambalaya and I got the special crab cake w eggs and grits and the amount of seafood was abundant and the dishes were delicious. We are definitely returning.

One of the best brunches in Rochester if you prefer the southern comfort side of things as opposed to the fancy French fare. Phenomenal grits even though I’m not a huge grits fan, and I can’t stop thinking about their chicken and waffles. Definitely a do-again. Norman is the warmest and most welcoming business owner I have ever interacted with. He creates the most comfortable atmosphere you could imagine. Only downside is that their hours our so limited! I’m always craving some Arnett!

I haven’t been disappointed yet! The last time I was here, I was on a time crunch and they accommodated my family and I with ease. I don’t remember the servers name(she had dread locks), but she was very attentive and patient with our party. We were on a time crunch and kept requesting different meals to be brought out ASAP. Also, someone from the restaurant went out to the store to get me a ginger ale. This is definitely a neighborhood/Rochester favorite of mine. I usually get the chicken and waffles(you can get cinnamon, whipped cream, powdered sugar, boss sauce, hot sauce, etc to fulfill your dreams). I hear the catfish is good too.

Arnett Café is a great neighborhood restaurant that serves homestyle southern cuisine such as shrimp ‘n grits, fish ‘n grits, chicken ‘n waffles and much more. The actual dining area is fairly small, but they are able to accommodate the traffic of their customers reasonably. I recommend going during the week to avoid busy crowds or expect a wait during weekends. Also if you call to order take out, double the estimated time that is quoted over the phone for your order to be complete. For example if they say 20min then that really means 40min. This has happened to us several times and we have had to wait. Each visit, we’ve been for breakfast. Their breakfast is good. Their prices are reasonable and consistent. Customer service is very nice. This is certainly worth a visit if you’re nearby.

Had breakfast there — went with the plain old omelette even though there were a lot of good sounding and looking southern items. Omelette was good but I most enjoyed how friendly the server and owner were. Very accommodating and welcoming. Would recommend.
