Love this place! Food was delicious and filling. My boyfriend got the compost plate and loved it, recommended warming up the sweet potatoes though. I had the veggie burger and it was great, even the side salad was amazing, such fresh vegetables. Décor was cute and quaint.

Everything on the menu is amazing. Before I went vegan I was a big garbage plate lover so I was relieved finding a place that had an all vegan plate(named«the compost plate» here). One of my favorite things on the menu, I highly recommend it.

The food didn’t look that special and pleasing to the eye. The whole menu is vegan. Food wasn’t that amazing in my opinion this restaurant is just a hype because of its location but their dessert was good

I’ve only came in for desserts but I have yet to try their actual lunch or dinner The location itself is on a busy road but there is outdoor seating but only 3 tables No I’m not a vegan or vegetarian but I still enjoyed my dessert. I got the brownie Sundae which is a nice cut with a scoop of ice cream and cherry sauce. It is $ 8 but it is definitely worth it. Their ice cream choices are by «eat me» ice cream and they are vegan brand. I’ve had both the chocolate and vanilla flavors before and they have a little taste of coconut. Obviously made by coconut milk but still yummy. I ordered the chocolate marshmallow and that was delicious. I also tried the mint chocolate cake which is very decadent. It’ll be hard to finish one slice alone. Service was very nice and sweet

AMAZING!!! had the best experience there for lunch with one of my girl friends. the menu was so creative and delicious. Having a food allergy, it is really hard to go out to eat and know that I am not eating anything that I shouldn’t be. I can eat everything here AND they have many gluten free options as well as everything being vegan. We had the Mac and cheese Nachos and the Kale Crete salad and were in heaven. and they have a HUGE case full of vegan and vegan/gluten free desserts! Our server was also attentive and sweet and the atmosphere was very cool and homey. I would go here every day if I could!!!

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Mac and cheese nachos as an app followed by steak bomber. Just incredible. I would recommend Red Fern to anyone.

Let it be known that everything on this menu is a must try and entirely vegan. But for first comers, the compost plate(comparable to a garbage plate) with a mac salad made with rice noodles, sweet potato salad, spicy meaty hot sauce, and field greens topped with your choice of a lentil burger, lemon maple tofu, Italian sausage, steak or the tempeh(must try, fantastic). I would also highly suggest the casbah salad with quinoa tabouli. For drinks I love any of the juices and the draft kombucha. The décor is cute and welcoming and during the warmer months they offer outdoor seating!

Updated review: Ate lunch here recently with coworkers and had an excellent dining experience. My dining party gobbled up every last bite of their meals, including myself. Since their opening a few years ago, Red Fern has improved their menu, rearranged the space to add more dining tables, and increased the service speed(though I suspect busy times, like most restaurants, can be slower — it takes time to make all this healthy, tasty food!), so it was a really pleasant experience. We stopped by on a sunny spring Friday afternoon around 11:45 am to beat the lunch crowd and were in and out within an hour. I was really impressed with the variety of menu items including the steak bomb which my coworkers ordered, the buddha bowl, and the buffalo tempeh sandwich. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes to eat healthy, and especially vegetarians/vegans, who are probably already aware of this option.

I hadn’t made an effort to pop into the Red Fern until my Mom was diagnosed with Celiac’s recently, so it has limited her options aside from a basic salad everywhere we go. We popped in on Good Friday, and it was pretty busy. They were accommodating to the party of 8 – 10 friends, for such a small place. I bet if you call ahead with a large party, they would be happy to set up tables pushed together for you. We sat down in their little white wooden chairs, after realizing that it was a seat yourself kind of place. The waitress gave us a bottle of water for our little mason jars, while we perused the menu. We both ultimately decided on the lentil burgers(vegan cheese and focaccia for me), and gluten free bread for Ma. She had a side salad, I had the mac salad. I would have to agree with Saul’s review that vegan stuff doesn’t replace meat and cheese for me, but I did enjoy what I ordered, and the service was pretty good. I felt bad for my Mom because the Gluten-Free bread didn’t look as good as my focaccia, she was eyeing it longingly. All in all, this is a great place to eat something that isn’t fried to make you die, with your grass eating, gluten free folks.

So we got the mac and cheese nachos loaded and the spicy meat sauce on the side. They were very tasty and I absolutely loved the citrus taste of the guacamole. I also had a side of the caper onion potato salad. SO delicious! They space is quaint and quiet just how I like a late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday. What I didn’t love was the meat sauce. It was heavy handed with cinnamon and that’s not what I want to taste when I think of meat or fake meat. Otherwise very cute and different place!

The food I’ve had here has been amazing, but getting the aqua vitea Kombucha here is such a rip off I can’t get over it. It’s usually 99 cents for the bottle and 2.99 to fill it the 16oz bottle. They charged my 5.40 even though I had my own bottle. Upsetting. Will be heading to loris for my refill next time.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I came here for lunch with a friend who is vegan. First of there is only street parking, I had to park a few streets over and walk. The restaurant is on the corner with a small sign that I drove by once. blended together. As you walk in you are greeted with a short stair case, like your entering a basement. This place is not very big, only a handful of tables. The décor is very homey and country to me. We sat at a small table for two and immediately served water in a cute jam jar’s. I also had the samba chai, so good with flavors of ginger, cinnamon and clove. We had the rosemary maple tamari almonds and kale chips as an appetizer. Almonds were sweet and crunchy, but the kale chips were amazing. We finished the entire bowl, definitely my favorite item from here. For lunch we had the Buddha Bowl and the lentil loaf. The bowl included brown rice, tofu, pickled radish, beets, kale and a side of vinaigrette dressing. I added avocado spread for an extra $ 1. I’ve never had tofu like this before it was different, just not sure I like the taste of it. The lentil loaf came with sauteed kale, and garlic red mashed potato covered in an onion gravy(yum) This was delicious, it tasted like meatloaf to me, but the onion gravy brought it all together. Overall this place is worth a try, I will try it again… just not a fan of the parking situation.

I loved this place! Upon entering, you’re greeted with a huge display of vegan desserts, only to be ripped away from them to get seated by the lovely staff. I had no idea Rochester had so many vegan-only restaurants, and I was almost overwhelmed that I could get anything on the menu. But I’ve always heard about their compost plate, so I had to get it since I’m from Buffalo and don’t get the pleasure of eating them often, and it was as amazing as people say on here! It came with sweet potato purée, macaroni salad, field greens, a thick meat-like sauce, and your choice of protein — I chose the lemon maple tofu, which actually worked pretty well with the dish. I’m pretty sure it’s the fanciest garbage plate in existence. And those desserts were delicious, too! They all looked great, from the mint Oreo cake to the ginger oatmeal cookies. The décor was quaint in the small space it took up, with little lace-topped tables and chairs painted white. My only complaint is that it was pretty pricey for stuff I could’ve made myself. And with that price, all of the food seemed really upscale in its presentation, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but not my style. Overall, I’ll definitely go right to this place when I come back to Rochester!

Had dinner here with a friend last night. Food was ok, but not what I exactly expected for two specific reasons: portions are small and prices are high. I had the Buddha Bowl but exchanged the tofu for some of their cashew macadamia nut cheese(at an extra charge). The bowl included brown rice(approx 1 cup worth), with a few strands of pickled radish, one medium beet cut up into pieces and a little tiny bit of kale. The vegan cheese was the right consistency, but unfortunately tasted rancid. There was a side of tamari-based vinaigrette that came with it which was great, and necessary, as the other items in the bowl had no seasoning or flavor at all. Overall, tasty with the dressing but disappointing in the portion size. Especially for the price of $ 16.50. For $ 10, yes, not for $ 16.50. With my meal I also had a glass of their on-tap ginger hibiscus kombucha, which was awesome, but served in a tiny glass jam jar for $ 4. I don’t even think it was 8 oz. As someone who makes their own kombucha at home, and knows how cheap it is to make, I always love trying new flavors at places that serve it, but this was really expensive for such a small portion. My friend had a beer and the lentil loaf plate. In contrast to mine, hers was a great amount of food: a big slice of seasoned lentil loaf and a generous side of the same kale, plus smashed red jacket potatoes covered in an onion gravy. She ate every bite and felt it was delicious. We were both still hungry after though, so had dessert too; we opted for a gluten free donut and a gluten free cupcake. Both were very tasty. Dinner for two with tax and tip was just under $ 60. I don’t think this is a place I’ll have luck convincing others to try with the prices as high as they are, but for the atmosphere and selection of vegan and gluten free dishes, others might still enjoy it.

My mom is a high carb, low fat, gluten free Vegan and my Grandma is GF and Vegan. We came to the Red Fern today to celebrate my Grandma’s 68th birthday. My boyfriend was horrified to find out its a Vegan restaurant… being a confirmed cheeseburger lover. I told him he would be pleasantly surprised — and he was! They have everything here… and everything we tried and tasted and rotated around the table was flavorful and absolutely delicious. Never let anybody tell you Vegans don’t know how to eat! I had the Black Bean Quinoa Chili and a lentil loaf(that came with mashed potatoes and seasoned kale) and it was DELICIOUS. The kale was great, potatoes great, and the lentil loaf was very filling and yummy. Everybody ate their entire plates(including my boyfriend!). Staff was incredibly helpful, extremely friendly, happy, and very present. Andrea, the owner, came over and chatted with us for a few minutes and she was absolutely delightful. I love when owners take time to meet their clientele. Place was clean, and super cute. We loved the décor. It feels like you’re hanging out in your friend’s kitchen… super cozy, very welcoming. Dessert was incredibly decadent and rich. Coffee was freshly brewed and hot. Prices are very reasonable — especially with pretty much everything made from scratch. My family and I will definitely be returning. We had a great time and my Grandmother said it was one of her favorite birthdays ever. Thank you to the staff, and Andrea, for making us feel so welcome and taking care of my family’s dietary needs. You go out to a restaurant with people who have more specific dietary needs and its always a struggle… everything was an absolute breeze here. What a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend The Red Fern for everyone, not just Vegan/Vegetarian/health nuts. All the food is delicious. Can’t wait to try more of the menu.

*Backstreet Boys voice* Oh my god, I’m back again As a vegan(and a queer person), I love The Red Fern! I always try to hit it up when I visit Rochester. I had the Warrior Wrap which was refreshing and healthy and the pizza special, which was super tasty and filling!

Last weekend I had a chance to try Red Fern for the first time. I’m not vegetarian or vegan or gluten free or anything restrictive when it comes to food– I love it all. That being said, the food at Red Fern was highly delicious, even for a meat eater like me. I had the lentil burger and my boyfriend had the steal bomb. The burger was fantastic, especially with the addition of the avocado spread. The focaccia it was served on was also outstanding. The steak bomb was also delish and tasted just like Philly cheesesteak, but there wasn’t much ‘meat,’ on the sandwich, so it seemed a bit on the skimpy side. Tiny complaint about the water– they give you the most minuscule little mason jars to drink out of, and the water is lukewarm. Ice water and bigger glasses would be nice. Service was great! Everyone was friendly and they waited on us promptly. Food came out quickly too.

I am not a vegan by any stretch, but I have several friends who are which is how I ended up here. Been 4 times over the past year or so, and it’s been REALLY good every time. I’ve tried several menu items; compost plate, lentil burger, the casbah salad, and tried all the desserts(because that’s how I roll.) An entrée will run around about $ 10 — $ 15, which is very reasonable considering the quality and preparation of their items. The last time here I ordered the casbah salad plus a lentil burger(+$ 3.50) and was full after half. There’s a list of specialty drinks, wines, and smoothies too! Their smoothies are fabulous. The service can be a little slow, but it is always very friendly. I love the interior and how it’s decorated with bright but gentle tones. The«sliced» tree trunk décor is really cute, too. They’re right on the corner of Oxford and Park(I think.) so it’s never TOO hard to find parking. You might have to walk a little, but not too far. Many reviews for vegan restaurants say things to the tune of «they did well for being vegan» and sort of compare the vegan joints to the non-vegan restaurants(obviously a vegan steak isn’t going to taste like beef that was walking around and mooing until last week.) I think that matched against the other vegan establishments in Rochester this place comes out as #1. Matched against all regular restaurants, this place is still in the top 10 for me personally! I get a cashbah salad every Thursday for dinner now ;-)

Hands down the best vegan meal I’ve ever had! I opted for the Brunch special: Breakfast Burrito with Tofu Veggie Scramble, Refried Beans, Rojo Sauce & Spicy Lime Sour Cream; side of Balsamic Field Greens or Tortilla Chips & Salsa Verde. I went with the ‘chips’ under the dumb assumption that they were kale chips. I should have asked and regret not going with the balsamic field greens. They loooked soooo goood… Oh well lesson learned. The burrito was scrumptious… and HUGE. It didn’t lack a darn thing! But then again I am biased with any dish that contains refried beans. The rojo sauce was specially delishiz as well! As a carnivore, I was a bit put off by the color of the tofu scramble because it was borderline neon. It doesn’t translate in my picture, but that’s ok! It was very yummy and did NOT taste like hi-liters :-) I so so so want to go back and try their BBQ plate. I was secretly coveting my friend’s plate because it smelled sooo good. The only downfall to small places like this is the seating and restroom situation. Their tables are too small for parties larger than 2. It was 3 of us on this visit, and instead of pulling 2 tables together, they sat us in a tiny table meant for 2(it wasn’t busy). Now on to the restroom. It almost felt like a communal powder room. There’s this long metal spoon with the key attached hanging by the door that leads to the building. I kinda got hallway pass nostalgia at this. The bathroom is down the hall and then tucked in a corner. It wasn’t very well lit and had a weird smell to it. So wash your hands and tinkle before coming to eat here. We were too stuffed to try any of their baked goods. So I will have to make it a point to leave room for dessert. Mind you, I only ate half the burrito, with no apps, and was still too full for cupcakes and donuts :-(
