Beef-a-Roo is an excellent fast food place. The onion rings are the best I have ever tasted and their olive burger and bacon bleu burger are delicious. Highly recommended. It is more expensive than your typical fast food joint, but Beef-a-Roo is definitely not your typical fast food joint. It is MUCH better.

So it was just this week that I found myself out in the Rockford area for business. I never head out this way, seeing that it is a solid one hour drive from where I live. I drove by Beefaroo and though«what a weird, weird name for a restaurant… must not be good». Except. it was. I contacted an old roommate who grew up in the area. she said it was a Rockford staple and all the«cool kids» went to Beefaroo after football games. Of course, I had to join the cool club. I’m not much of a beef eater, but don’t let the name fool you. They have TONS of options that are not beef. I ordered the avocado turkey jack wrap and it was delicious. Not too big, not too small(just right). I also ordered cheese fries per the suggestion of my friend and I was not disappointed. They were somewhat lacking in cheese though. The fries come in a cup, and there were just on the top couple of fries. The cheese comes on the fries, but I’m sure you could ask for it in a cup on the side as well. Next time, I might just do that to make sure I have more than a sprinkling of cheese. Overall, a good fast food stop and well worth the detour off your path.

Great experience at a Rockford local must-do. The name doesn’t do this restaurant justice. It is very good and has many choices. My son had chicken fingers and fries, they are pretty standard fare, good, but nothing spectacular. I got the highly recommended cheese fries, they were also good, but I wouldn’t need to do them again. I’m just a ketchup kind of gal. I also got something I already want to eat again, and it’s only been 2 hours. I got the Turkey Avocado Jack sandwich in the wheat bun. It was delicious. I am really looking forward to going back to Rockford, strange statement I realize, to get this sandwich ;-) We finished off out meal with a Mint Shake, on special for $.99. I actually hope Beef a Roo franchises beyond Rockford someday. What a great restaurant.

I love Beef-a-Roo. I miss it when I’m in Milwaukee, so I try to stop by on my trips back to Illinois. They have a nice variety of food, a lot of fresh food. Best of all real lettuce on their sandwiches, no ice berg lettuce here! I got the turkey pretzel club, which was amazing! A pretzel bun with deli cut turkey, a honey mustard sauce, lettuce and I think cream cheese. Of course the cheese fries are always tasty.

One of the great things about visiting my wife’s family is getting to go to Beef-A-Roo. I think I’ve been to every location now; this one being the last one. Unfortunately, it was the worst one I’ve been to. My beef sandwich was small, dried up, and shriveled. The place was dirty too, probably because we ate their just after a lunch rush. The service was a little salty too. At least the other locations are still on their game.

Don’t let the silly name fool you, Beef-A-Roo knows how to do burgers right. Apparently all Beef-A-Roos have a theme, with this location sticking to a 50s diner motif. On a visit from NY, I was brought here by some friends who never miss an opportunity to stop in. As the reviewer below mentions, the cheese fries are not to be missed and their bacon bleu burger and chicken tenders hit the spot as well. Top it all off with one of their delicious thick shakes(I chose the mint chocolate) and you’ll be walking away stuffed full of good ol’ American fare! Oh, and I almost forgot, a waiter came by with an after meal mint or chocolate which was a friendly surprise!

When my wife and I are in Rockford, we always stop at Beefaroo. Their cheesy fries are delicious and very inexpensive. Try a Big Beef with Cheddar cheese as well. If you are looking for fine dining, this restaurant isn’t it. If you are looking for comfort food within a relaxed atmosphere… Beefaroo is a place you would enjoy. Stopping at Beefaroo is definitely a family tradition. Enjoy!

Great chili. As an added bonus, the people were outstanding, at all the beef-a-roos. Support this fabulous business!

Nasty, Barf a Poo. Is it beef? Is it Kangaroo? I have no idea who would like this food? Sorry but it’s very, very low grade. Oscar Mayer hot dogs??? Really. Cute idea with the different style store front’s… I’ve been to this one and the one in Roscoe that looks like an elegant bank to see if maybe different owners did something different. Nope. They are the same cheap brand of food. The workers were all in some sort of coma. Cheese fries??? What is that werid goldenrod sludge? The fries alone were fair. Like it if you want. I would come here again if I wanted my friends to experience the unbelievable. No accounting for taste I guess.

Definitely one of the better roast beef sandwiches you’ll ever have… and the fries aren’t half bad, either.

This place makes Arby’s look like dog food. Their milkshakes are very good — I especially love the mocha flavored one. The sandwiches are top dollar, and the whole restaurant is like a time machine back to the 1950’s.

Beefaroo is really only an exciting place for Rockford natives. To anyone else, it’s just a fast food joint. Granted, I was told that my husband(who is a Rockford native) had me order the wrong things, so maybe I haven’t gotten the true experience. I do appreciate the friendly staff that walked around and offered us a mint as well as the well above average milk shake. Mint chocolate chip… mmmmm…

how can you NOT like beef-a-roo. if you don’t you’re probably a terrorist. everything on the menu is pretty damn good and this is the cream of the crop when it comes to fast food. you like chicken strips? BAM. this place has probably some of the best in town. you like roast beef sandwiches? this basically makes Arby’s roast beef look like pig slop. if you’re from out of town or have friends from out of town. TAKETHEMTOBEEF-A-ROO. it’s the only thing that could make this town famous.. besides that one band. i forget what they’re called.. .. ..
