Stopped for dinner 1÷29÷16. I ordered the fish fry, and swapped the standard sides of french fries and slaw for corn, green beans and potato casserole. Mine was delivered hot and it hit the spot. My wife ordered country fried chicken dinner. Chicken was very tough, rubbery and off flavor. I sampled and urged my wife to send it back, but by the time we saw the server, too much time had passed and we wanted to get back on the road. The country fried chicken was simply gross. I complained when I paid, expecting an offer to take the chicken off the bill, but no offer was forthcoming. Rather than take up time and discuss further, we paid and chalked it up as a lesson learned.

This has always been one of our go-to places for breakfast and we have wandered through the doors for lunch and dinner throughout the years as well. As far as CB’s go, this is one of the good ones. Very consistent food, which is a very good thing. Typical awesome gift shop that I have spent too much money in over time. Our most recent experience was this past Saturday morning around 11. We had really fantastic service from Debbie, a veteran of CB… and a true professional. She gave us a ton of great attention while making sure that her other Guest’s were well cared for. We also love Donna as a server and try to grab a seat in her section when we can. Kimberly in the gift shop is great. She is very customer service oriented and always goes above and beyond when we are there and«shopping».

Good Midwestern country style comfort food. Ate lunch during a week day and there was no wait to sit down. Clean nice comfortable atmosphere. Service could of been better, server couldn’t handle her tables and it wasn’t that busy. I would visit this location again but would more likely do it during breakfast time.

Food was good but service terrible. Place was not busy yet server kept disappearing. Was he also the cook? Working next door? Your guess is as good as ours but what he wasn’t doing was serving, refilling drinks, bringing out the entire order(how can you forget part of two orders for standard menu items?) or serving other tables.

We came during the busy lunch hours. however, there were a plenty of servers who were working so the wait wasn’t long. I haven’t had Cracker Barrel since my husband and I moved from South Carolina, so we decided to go there before getting back to the city. I ordered the catfish platter and my husband ordered a Reuben sandwich. Everything was good but it wasn’t screaming«excellent» because of my picky Chicagoan tongue. Once again, I may be biased toward national chain restaurants. I have to make this disclaimer since there are competitions among different food joints in the city, which generates a high standard in terms of judging on the taste, quality, and others aspects from the restaurants I’ve visited. Overall, I still recommend this particular Cracker Barrel location if you are happening to be passing though Rockford or on the way back from Wisconsin. p. s. The store sells lots of UW-Madison licensed merchandise. Go Badgers(from a proud Alumna class of 2009)!

Well, we ate a late dinner returning from our Wisconsin cabin to the chi town burbs. We have stopped many times at this Cracker Barrel in Rockford and it is pretty consistent as far as the food and service is concerned. And I always end up buying some crap on the way out in the«store» portion of CB. I ordered the beef noodle soup and a side salad. B The soup is hot and somewhat peppery. There was plenty of beef and it was satisfying. The salad was small and unremarkable. I had to ask repeatedly for an ice tea refill, otherwise the service was good. We will continue to eat at the Rockford CB. Consistently good food/service.

Cracker Barrel was ASS. We get there, and there is a relatively short waiting time. Okay, nice. Our waitress gets there on time, good. We order food… I ordered the French Toast Breakfast — 4 slices of french toast, 2 eggs, and 2 strips of bacon. The bacon was about cold, and there was so much fat on each end of each strip. I got my eggs scrambled, but it was just an arid strip of what is I guess egg. The french toast was bland, and we didn’t even had syrup at our table. I had to REQUESTSYRUP. And the syrup came in little tiny bottles, which was weird. The syrup was bland too. My girlfriend’s mother didn’t even get her eggs cooked correctly when her and the waitress explicitly talked about what eggs she wanted(she wanted to know what type was the runny type — over easy). They had to send another serving of eggs. The biscuits looked dry, I didn’t want any. I like the atmosphere though. The gift shop had the first volume of the first season of Power Rangers. Not a total loss, I guess.

My dad always loved this chain and we do to have then in CA, so feeling nostalgic, I stopped by. I was pleased to see that they added several healthy options to their menu. I ordered the sirloin and broccoli for 350 calories. I was surprised and how big the steak was! any restaurants can’t figure out how to cook a medium steak– but they did a great job! Friendly service and cute shop.

I mean, it’s a Cracker Barrel. You stop here for more of the nostalgia than the food(at least we did). Food was mediocre at best. My favorite part may have been the hashbrown mixture they slop on your plate. Eggs were cooked fine, bacon was good. Sausage was very hard and almost inedible. Ham was delicious. Biscuits — meh, gravy was gross and apples tasted like they came out of a can. Again, it’s cheap and we stopped to feel like kids again. Not necessarily to have the best meal of our lives.

This is my favorite Cracker Barrel location(although, Davenport, Iowa is a very close second.) Since I usually stay at the Baymont Inn next door, I usually order something for carry out. The staff is always friendly with good telephone manners and they cheerfully field my usually strange requests. By the time I walk over to the restaurant, my order is ready to go. Of course, who can resist the old school candies? My favorite old candy bars from when I was a kid, except they aren’t six for a quarter anymore. They also have lots of stuff we couldn’t get up in Wisconsin, like Goo-Goo Clusters. I’m not a fan of the CB location at home, but this location is a pleasure to patronize.

I think is a 2nd Cracker Barrel location I’ve done a review for. And we’ve been to more locations than that. It’s a family favorite, and usually if we pass one, and we’re hungry — we go. We can’t get enough. We’ve always had good service, and the food and prices can’t be beat. The kids especially love it as well. We enjoy the atmosphere, and it’s fun to look at the little gift items in the shop on the way out. My kids enjoy the candy sticks, and we usually treat them to some after our meal.

It’s a restaurant that really knows how to position itself and one that has really found its niche. Cracker Barrel seeks to create a home-away-from-home feeling for all its patrons and largely succeeds at doing so. I’m guessing that most of their customers are weary travelers who need a break from the road because I only see this restaurant alongside interstate highways. Anyway, I had dinner here with the family, and for the most part it was quite satisfying. It really nailed the whole«Life on the Homestead» theme, so prepare to take a step back into a simpler time… one where olé Granny is «fixin ya up some vittles» shortly before settling back into the confines of her rocking chair with a rifle splayed across her lap, so she can watch the sun set over the prairie. Try their dumplins with gravy or their cornbread-they are just fantastic! I will also applaud their meatloaf. And make sure you look around in their store because they have some really neat things that you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. And the service was satisfactory as well. So it’s a solid choice for someone looking for a hearty dinner with a home-cooked feel to it. But the whole place is borderline hokey, and I can see people finding it difficult to accept. It also feels(and tastes) a little bland compared to other restaurants out there.

Ehh it’s ok… Don’t get me wrong 3 stars only on the food everything else is like 5 or 4.5 Nothing really great to my taste spuds… I didn’t get any burst of magical feeling in my mouth. I really forgot what I got here also that is pretty sad. Well all I can say it is really well organized and makes you feel in a cozy western feeling thou. I like the breakfast at Denny’s better but I like the atmosphere here. Service was pretty good thou no lie about that kudos! It’s really clean and old fashion looking. Yes I would come back again only for somebody else sake

I LOVED the store when I was a kid… couldn’t understand why my parents rarely wanted to come here. The four kids always got to pick something out after dinner. They have lots of old time candies, which are fun to try. Each table as the Triangle Peg Jump game… ask for an extra if you’re with more than one child, as they most likely will fight over it. Fun little trademark for Cracker Barrel. The food is greasy homestyle… you’re gonna need a nap after eating here. But it provides a certain comfort. The French toast is awesome, and the country fried steak is pretty amazing too. And again, you’ll be in a food coma. The star reduction is more because its not high quality food. The outside is lined with rocking chairs… on a hot day, it’s so relaxing to sit and rock there, either waiting for a table, or stuffed after a meal.

I had a bad experience there we saw a lady urinating on the sidewalk as we walked out of the restaurant. The food is only ok and matters on who the chef is.

Whenever I’m outside of the Chicago metropolitan area, I try to hit up a Cracker Barrel. Such was the case during a weekend in Rockford. My husband and I were at this Cracker Barrel for breakfast on Easter Sunday. We got there around 9 a.m., and the place was pretty busy but not so busy that we had to wait for a table. We were seated right away at a table by the window. I ordered Momma’s French Toast Breakfast, which came with French toast, two eggs and bacon. It was delicious! My momma never cooked French toast and eggs like that. WTF, Mom!!! Anyway, Cracker Barrel isn’t anything too special, but it’s always a good time with good food. The service is solid, the food has a country kick, and I get to mosey around the gift shop while my husband pays the bill. Good stuff!

I haven’t been to one of these since the late 90’s. However, I was in the mood for breakfast and this was the quickest option off of I-90 so Cracker Barrell it was. After making our way through the sea of people in the country store to the hostess stand, we were told our wait would only be about 5 minutes which it was. Our server, Denise was as sweet as can be. She swapped stories with J about the south side, Harold’s chicken and some other notable places. She offered up a lot of good recommendations since this was our first time at this location and just reminded us both of a sweet older aunt. J ordered lunch; a chicken sandwich with fries. He didn’t know that the sandwich came smothered in a thick layer of cheese, so that part was not a good time. I ordered Uncle Hershels special or something like that. It came with eggs, cheesy hashbrowns, grits(which I’ve never had in my life — and still won’t, one bite and the texture gave me the creeps) biscuits and gravy. I’m not a fan of southern style gravy. Ick. It tasted like a big bowl of lard cooked in an old pan. Very cheap, great service, but really greasy…

I received EXCELLENT service at this Cracker Barrel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and there was so much of it with the dinner. Very generous with the biscuits. Fire smelled good and made the place cozy, which is great when you’ve been on the road all day. The best part of our visit was the contraption they are able to put on a chair if you have an infant with you. We put her car seat right up on one of the chairs. It was safe and SO convenient. Would definitely go back to this location. This location stood out from the rest.

This is a Cracker Barrel, and you know what that means, and all it entails. That said, I seem to be breaking my policy of not reviewing chains when it comes to the Cracker Barrel. Got seated quickly — they said 20 minutes, and it was more like 5, on a Sunday morning for a party of 8. Impressive. Good service, separate checks for a huge party. You know what to expect from the food, but given the circumstance, I’m happy with everything. I think I’ve expressed this before, but the service could just as easily be slow and inaccurate, and it wasn’t. So points for doing it right during their busiest period.

A road-travellers pit stop, modeled after a Country Store, this restaurant has it’s uses: 1) Fast and greasy. 2) Fairly affordable. 3) Cute store for kitchy and/or nostalgic gift purchases However, as a regular pitstop, it’s a no-go. Their breakfast menu is extremely egg-based, which is a problem for anyone with an egg allergy(me!) — not an uncommon allergy… though anyone with a wheat or milk allergy would have the same style of complaint. It’s also hard to find any item that isn’t extremly high in fat — which, with high cholesterol being a prevalent health concern, you would think they might want to address.(Maybe they figure because their clients tend to be transitory so they’ll be way down the road when they have their heart attack! ;-) Overall taste is «ok» — nothing remarkable that makes me want to go back. Price is reasonable for breakfast — 4 of use ate for about $ 35.00, including 3 full meals, and some a la carte selection to avoid the eggs. Would we recommend? No. Would we return? Not by ourselves. This was our second visit, and the only reason we went back this time was because our friends wanted to go — and we aren’t that averse to this restaurant that we would decline.
