Still the best option for lunch in Rockport. Home made bread and soup are wonderful. Sandwiches are huge so think about sharing. Salads are also good and the apple dumplings are good but we never have room!

So a year later we are back. This time I had the Greek salad and a cup of baked potato soup. It was refreshing. A nice break from all of the great but rich seafood we’ve been having. Buy your kid a grilled triple cheese sandwich. Have a big salad and a bowl of soup.

Service: excellent, attentive and friendly Food: excellent as well. We went for lunch and the sandwiches and soups were excellent! However the name of the establishment is «Apple Dumplings» but they were out of apple dumplings lol. Seems like your namesake should never run out! Atmosphere: café style. The day we were there the air conditioner went out but we still stayed, it wasn’t too unbearable. I will not take any stars off for this because it was an uncontrollable mechanical issue. We will be back, cute hole in the wall delicatessen.

I have eaten at this establishment several times over the past year, the food has always been great however the gentleman that has waited on us each time and he runs the register has always struck me as aloof and rude! But today took the cake we sat down and got drinks immediately however the young lady said she was new and could not take our order! We overheard the gentleman telling another table that they had let a few people go and they were short handed actually he got extremely detailed which I felt was inappropriate! Finally 15 – 20 minutes later when we got to order I ordered the Greek Salad and my husband ordered ½ sandwich and salad. When my salad arrived it was nothing more than a large house salad no feta no kalmata olives no peporcines! I had to get up and seek someone out twice to ask about it the rude gentleman informed me that when he figured out what belonged on the salad himself he would let me know. I never heard back, unfortunately we will never go back you just don’t treat customers this way!

Horrible service, AC doesn’t seem to work, rude old man taking orders and payments. He lost ½ our table’s order, so we didn’t all get our food together… was disrespectful towards us and others waiting for him to take their order. Most started walking out after waiting 20 minutes for him to wait on them. Almost waked out because he wouldn’t come to the cash register as I stood there holding my 14 month old for at least 10 minutes.

The sandwiches were big and very good. So glad that we made it for lunch before they closed. Next time we are in Rockport will be sure and visit again.

Small and unspectacular to look at, this place fills a void in Rockport. I went here just to find a solution to my 5 year old’s desire to try a «hot sandwich» at a restaurant. There are various kinds of café-style sandwiches and salads, and all of them are really good! The bread is flavorful, the portions are fair, and there is a lot of variety! The one gripe is that the coffee is squarely in the territory of bad. Just an airpot of brew that barely qualifies as coffee, in a paper cup, with some packets of dry creamer. If they had better coffee, I’d probably spend an hour and a half here. The Apple Dumpling(their namesake dessert) is one of the best desserts in Rockport.

Comfortable place that feels like an old diner. Great sandwiches with lots of choices. Sides are a little bland. The cookies are pretty good, not a bad dessert. The service is sometimes curt, surprisingly, but it’s mainly the only downfall.

We love this place. The bread is always so good and fresh. I’ve had them make party platters which always are a hit! Egg salad is a favorite.

On a cold, rainy day during our most recent stay in Rockport, we decided to try the Apple Dumpling Deli. Another visitor at our hotel recommended it to us the night before, and we were not disappointed. We arrived just as they opened and were pleased to find a friendly doggie at the front of the restaurant(she belongs to the owner) who greeted us with a doggie grin while she finished up her snack. The owner was a very friendly guy and he told us to sit wherever we wanted and then proceeded to entertain us with stories about the restaurant business. The server was also exceptionally friendly and quick. The menu is extensive… many different sandwiches, salads, soups and other items to choose from and they all sounded good. Now…the food: in a word… awesome. They make their own bread here and it is the best bread I’ve ever eaten in a restaurant. Light, fluffy, but still substantial. Hubby and I both chose the lunch special that consists of a half-sandwich and a cup of soup. You get to choose from any sandwich on their menu, so I had the grilled cheese with ham and hubby chose the«Rockport»: egg salad with avocado and bacon. We both chose the baked potato soup. Everything was wonderful and fresh(in fact, the server told us that it might be a minute because the chef was still preparing the egg salad). After lunch, we had an apple dumpling to share which was delicious. The cost was very, very reasonable for the quality of food and service we received. Do note, however, that they do not take AMEX(which is what I use most of the time) or Discover. Just Visa and MC. We get to Rockport as often as we can, and we both agreed that we have found a new favorite spot for lunch at the Apple Dumpling Deli.

These kind people took care of a very large order for me for my family reunion. We needed lunch for 25 fairly early on a Sunday morning. Everybody got what they ordered, the sandwiches were huge and the apple dumplings tasty. Everything was ready on time, before their opening time! I was pleased and so was my family.

Just read over some reviews. Haven’t been there in about 6 months BUT if it’s still under same management etc then my review is great. Great homemade sandwiches, soup, decent prices. Cute little deli style, the chairs tables etc. Don’t forget to get a homemade ice cream root beer float, so good. Service was good. Kind of awkward when you’re the only customers in there, very quiet. But food is good!

The food and atmosphere USED to be good but then a red headed man came in and is the MOST unpleasant person I have ever come across. He yells at employees and customers. How is that a pleasant experience when you are spending money? I cannot recommend this place to anyone again. How sad that such a popular and well run restaurant can be run down by one annoying and unprofessional person. He needs to get an attitude adjustment. I am not an employee but WAS a good customer but never again if he is a part of management!

Yesterday(9÷25÷14) my husband went to the Apple Dumpling Restaurant for lunch with a friend who is a well known local business owner. After eating the waitress delivered the ticket and my husband’s friend snatched it up quickly as he wanted to pay for it and treat my husband. They decided to share dessert and the waitress brought it over. Very shortly after that a very curt manager wearing a blue ball cap asked my husband’s friend if he had given the ticket back to the waitress to which he said, no, that he was going to pay for the dessert along with the ticket when he got up to the cash register. The manager got extremely irate with my husband’s friend and in a very loud voice said«that’s not the way we do business here.» My husband’s friend immediately went up to the cash register and tried to placate the manager who again was extremely loud and rude and told him to «get out now or I’m going to call the cops.» People who had just walked in proceeded to turn around and walk right back out. My husband went to the cash register and the man said«do you have a ticket too» and my husband said«no, my friend paid for my meal, I just wanted some change so I could leave a tip for the waitress.» With this the manager spoke rudely and extremely loud to my husband stating, «she doesn’t need a tip and you get out of here too.» Needless to say Apple Dumpling Restaurant won’t be seeing any more of our business.(We have since been told that this man is the owner’s boyfriend. He’s going to lose her a lot of business.)

Very cute café, but I thought it was a bit expensive for what you get. I had the Greek salad with chicken, but wasn’t a big fan. My hubby had the roast beef melt, and it was pretty tasty. The bread was fresh and perfectly toasted. The dark chocolate brownie was also great, and the other dessets looked good as well.

Wife and I had soup, sandwiches, and dessert. The fresh, in restaurant baked sourdough bread made the sandwich for me. The wife’s potato soup was comforting and delicious. The apple dumpling was good. I’m not a fair critic because I’m not a huge fan of dumplings. The in restaurant made ice cream was fabulous. The wife raved about the Mexican chocolate ice cream and my raspberry ice cream was wonderful.

I love their sandwiches, service is a little slow. The ice cream is great. Soups are overpriced for the portions.

When visiting Rockport for a week, we found ourselves wanting to return here several times. This place is only open from 10 – 3 daily. During the hours that they are closed, the owner is busy baking all fresh, home-made breads for the day, and preparing everything on the menu from scratch. My favorite entrée is the«Light Lunch», a half-sandwich(but as big as a «normal» sandwich) that comes with their home-made soup of the day or a salad. I have become addicted to their Waldorf Chicken Salad. They also make the BEST home-made ice creams– they are such a treat! The atmosphere is casual with cute café tables, yellow walls, and orange-and-white flooring. warm and inviting. The staff is very friendly. You feel like you’re visiting friends who really want you to enjoy their food. We will return next year when in town!
