DiCastro’s seems to be a bit of a hit or miss on food quality and service. I have been here over a dozen times. Hard to say what you will get. I guess that would be my complaint. When the food is good, it is really good, and love the idea of the wood fired ovens. most of the time our pizza has been black and burned on the bottom. doesn’t taste that great like that. Beer is something i have stopped ordering. weird aftertaste and flat. I normally order a draft on tap. think maybe they need to clean the lines or something. Well if i was stuck and really hunger and everyone else was closed i would eat here. so 3 stars with a so so not horrible but not good Sorry.

We order pizza from here anytime we are in Rome, their pizza is definitely unique and very flavorful, they could work a little on the flavor of their crust, but I’m not complaining. I have also had the Chicken Riggies and the Utica Greens and both were excellent as well!

I love it here! Whenever I’m in town this is a definite stop for lunch, sometimes twice. The greens are the best I’ve eaten and the sandwiches are always delicious.

I had an exceptional experience at DiCastro’s. My family and I were hungry and many dining establishments are closed on Mondays, so DiCastro’s was the closest thing to home to check out. Never having gone here, I didn’t know what to expect. I am so happy to report that I was very pleasantly surprised! The building itself is small and quaint, and the inside is very country-ambient. They have this really cool wall poster from Woodstock ’99 that’s signed by(assuming) all musicians that participated that year. I’m a music nut, especially rock n roll and metal, so this was a special treat for me. Our waitress«Karrie with a K» was such a doll. My uncle, who loves to give the ladies a hard time, heckled her and she totally kept her composure and even poked good fun back at him. She was very attentive and a good sport. Karrie, if you’re reading this, sorry again and thank you! The food was delicious! My Fettuccine Alfredo was nice and creamy, not heavily reliant on Parmesan(which I liked) and was garnished with light herbs that gave it that slight kick and coloring. My fiancé’s fettuccine carbonara was also rich and creamy, his bruschetta was a delicious thick cut, and the al dente noodles pulled it all together well. My aunt and uncle shared a plate of the cabbage rolls and a stuffed pepper, which was very nicely prepared with melted mozzarella and red sauce underneath the entrees. The stuffing looked to be a sort of jambalaya-ish rice, being a nice pairing with the vegetables, balancing the veggie taste out well. The next time I’m in Rome, I’ll definitely be returning. See you next year, DiCastro’s, and thanks for the experience!

Great food. Huge portions. Definitely get your bang for your buck. Not as good service, a little slow on busy nights but it was not to bad. Good amount of seating. Good dinner spot.

Pros: — Very friendly staff — Clean, with a big, open layout and non-obtrusive decorations — The house Italian/balsamic dressing with the salads was amazing Cons: — Sticker shock! The prices were very high, particularly for Rome, with the exception of the small pizzas. With the Franklin Hotel barely nudging their prices for 20 years, this was surprising. — One of the slowest kitchens I’ve ever seen — the meals were a long, long time in coming in a relatively empty restaurant. — We had a party of 8, and about half ordered iced tea, and half ordered water. Instead of simply bringing out pitchers, there was an awkward refill scenario we had to go through every so often, made particularly difficult by the poor placement of the table, which made it virtually impossible for the waitress to reach people without awkward passing back and forth — Chicken saltimbocca was nearly inedible from saltiness. «Saltimbocca,» which can have salty elements for a variety of reasons, means«jumps in the mouth,» not«let’s put the contents of the Salt Lake in the dish.» Other dishes were acceptable, if not memorable. — The dishes did not come out at the same time. This is one of my hugest pet peeves, and, I believe, absolutely inexcusable. Moreover, they were several minutes apart — two people received dishes, then we waited 5 minutes, then three people… etc. Two of our party had to wait nearly 15 minutes, because«the chef made the wrong dish!» No manager came to apologize, no offer to reduce/remove something from the bill, nothing! I’ve never seen this happen before… they just sat there, waiting, receiving their dishes when everyone else was done. Despite prices closer to fine dining than a casual establishment, the meal/experience had none of the trappings of that. Paper napkins, the«keep your knife and fork» after the salad, instead of simply replacing cutlery(another pet peeve), inexperienced kitchen, awkward(albeit very friendly) service, etc. Should be closer to one star, but the waitress was very friendly. I realize I’m the exception based on the other reviews, but unless we just had an unusual experience, I don’t get the draw to the place.

The wood fired pizza, sauce, and tasty toppings made for a memorable and delicious experience! Keep up the good work!

This is our second visit here. Both times we’ve ordered tossed salads & pizza. The salad & dressing is excellent, the pizza had that great brick oven taste and the service was fantastic! I would definitely recommend this place and hopefully my next visit I can pull away from the pizza and try a dinner but who knows.

We stopped in for a quick lunch and had 2 sandwiches off of the lunch menu, a eggplant parm and a chicken cutlet. The good was great, the place was clean and the waitress was attentive. The only downfall was she seemed to be the July person working at lunch time so she was very busy and ended up for getting our appetizer, but we didn’t get charged so it was a wash. Over all a great experience!

We always have a great meal at DiCastro’s. The wait staff is friendly and attentive, the owners are great and the food is always good. Last night we had the Pulled Pork Pizza special of the week and it was excellent. I like the vibe of the building. I was worried that the new addition would detract but it doesn’t at all. Great place to go, our favorite in Rome.

Enjoyed my meal for the most part. The marinated chicken was good, however my cut of chicken was very chewy like bubblegum. Didn’t have any Reuben so I had to order the chicken unfortunately. It came with chips, wasn’t asked if I wanted to substitute them out: which I would of.

Negatives: The food is OK at best, and poor at worst. The pizza is sub-par for a wood-fired oven joint. No beer on tap. Positives: The wait staff is good. The atmosphere is nice. The interior design is nice. I want to like DiCastro’s, but food is the main reason to go to a restaurant. If you want a good wood-fired pizza, try Napoli in Yorkville.

Recently went here and had the BBQ Beef Brisket sandwich. Very disappointed. The menu described the beef as being slow cooked for 8 hours. Which, technically, isn’t really long enough. 10 – 14 hours is ideal for a brisket, but here are several factors. Either way, the meat was SUPERTOUGH. The flavor was lacking, they sauce they doused it which wasn’t very yummy, and it took me about 1 minute to chew every bite. The other members of our party seem to have enjoyed their food… If you go here, I’d recommend AGAINST the beef brisket. As we left, I saw a small Weber«bullet smoker» in the back parking-lot behind the bldg. Smoking away… It was around 1 pm we ate– so am I to believe they had the Brisket I was served smoking at 5:00am? I have a hard time believing it, and if so, I suggest they start it at 3 or 1 am! And maybe research slow cooking a beef brisket.

Had a pizza there today, it was excellent, and the service was very good even thou they were very busy. My next takeout pizza will be from there.

Came here for the first time. Food was fantastic. The décor was pretty cool too. Our server wasn’t exactly the nicest and I think it’s ridiculous to charge a table an additional fee to separate wings on a $ 100+ check.

Not a fan… I was happy when I saw their sign advertising brick oven pizza. It is everything but what I was expecting for traditional brick oven pizza. The sauce was lacking flavor. I gave them a second try and eat a pasta meal, only to find once again not much flavor. While the portion size was huge the meal was not very tasty. I typically give a place several tries unless the first experience was so terrible. DiCastro’s only gets two, I will not be returning for a third.

Just flew in from Texas. I came to this restaurant because of the Unilocal reviews. I must say it’s the best Mac and Cheese I’ve ever had. A large portion cooked in an iron skillet with a ton of cheese. I plan on returning later tonight and trying something new for dinner.

First FYI they now accept cards so no more worries about cash. We ordered the buffalo chicken pizza and the pesto pizza(spinach, olives, roasted red peppers, artichokes and cheese) both were really good. I loved the pizza, my husband thought the crust was a little thick for brick oven style but still really enjoyed his meal. Quick service and adorable hostess who brings you drinks while you wait for your seat. Overall cant wait to come back and try other menu items!
