I have a love/hate relationship with Sonny’s. I don’t like what they’ve done to their beef, but the pulled pork on most days is to die for. This particular restaurant is pretty decent. It’s clean, wait staff are pretty helpful and nice, the food can occasionally be a tad hit and miss but most of the time it’s pretty good. Prices are a touch high though.

Thank you, Sonny’s Rome, for restoring our faith in the chain. After a horrendous experience in Valdosta, we finally visited our home Sonny’s, and all is right with the world. Katherine took very good care of us, suggesting we try the redneck egg rolls, which were filled with barbecue and were really delicious. My wife finally got her favorite barbecue chicken salad, and as always, I could not resist the ribs, especially when it was a sampler of three different types. I got a side salad to balance all that pork and it was fresh and as good as my wife’s, and we can never resist the corn nuggets. She had a Yuengling and I tried a Sonny’s Red, both as expected, very good accompaniment to the Q. Summer’s over but we will continue our love affair with Sonny’s in Rome despite other franchises trying to send us away unhappy. Craving good barbecue, we turned to our local Sonny’s once again in March 2015. Wow! Once again blew us away with the delicious in every food and personal service. This place is well managed and the food is always the best around. If you live in Rome and want good barbecue, this is the place to go – even if you’re visiting you should go there too! ;-) WB

We visited the Sonny’s on Shorter ave in Rome, Ga and we normally don’t have much issues with service but this night was different. When we first came in it took about 5 minutes to be seated because there were only two servers around and they were busy. When we were seated and placed our order, the food did not take long to arrive but when it did there was no butter with my baked potato and he asked about it but then disappeared, all of them did. Don’t know if all went on a smoke break or not but there was no one around not even a manager. We were not the only table looking for a server either. When they did come back in the server we finally flagged down did smell of smoke. We asked for a to go plate twice before we got it and he apologized and said it had been a long day. I have worked in the restaurant business before so I am normally understandable but tonight I was not. Tonight this shift was not well managed, I am of the opinion there is no break until your tables have been busted and the customers taken care of. Hopefully things will change because my husband does like to eat here but don’t like waiting for things like this.

It’s like the south’s version of fast food BBQ. I’m pleasantly intrigued and will be back.

Pretty tasty BBQ, though not the best I’ve ever had. The pulled beef brisket is succulent and flavorful, and the pork combo plate offers a good selection for one who wants to sample a good cross-section of pig meats. Presentation is nothing to write home about, and neither are the coleslaw, macaroni & cheese, or atmosphere. The corn bread, however, is absolutely luscious, and the service is very attentive. No comments on the dessert, other than the fact that there was no way that any of us had any room to try it!
