Definitely time for an updated review as this place is now under new management… This is the third time Ive given this place a try after new management came in and gave this place a face lift Pros: The appearance of the place looks a lot better than it did in the past. The service is pretty good and everyone is friendly. I don’t wait too long to be served which makes it convenient for a quick lunch. Cons: The last time I was there i gave my order directly to the sushi chef who I think is also the owner. He’s not very familiar with his own menu and reached over the bar and grabbed the menu to look at it. Then started making my sushi. Im not usually picky but if you’re going to he handling fresh fish and my food with your bare hands then please don’t grab a menu which a ton of guests are touching and coughing on and then start making my sushi without washing your hands. :/etiquette 101 Cons: Menu completely changed and all my favorite items are gone. Cons: All the prices went up about a dollar or so from the last time I was here. Overall, it was an okay place to come to for lunch but I think I’ll stick to other local restaurants. Maybe I’ll come back and give it another shot…

Rating varies but lucky i might come at a good time. Monday 7pm order eel rice and miso soup for 12 bucks. Taste is stronger than authentic Japanese food… but still delicious. Like the way they blend the rice with the eel sauce. Service wise was good. The lady was kind and the chef came out from the counter and greeted me. Again maybe bc they’re not busy. Owner should be a Korean speaker.

This place is close to my work. So every now and then when I crave sushi, I come here. On a recent visit, their quality of food and service has definitely gone down. It also seems that the owners may have changed(not 100% sure, so I may be wrong). Their menu also changed very drastically. It is not the same as before. Anyhow, back to my recent visit, as soon as I walked into the restaurant, there was a strong smell of frying oil in the air. Maybe their ventilator was down, but you can smell it all through out the place. THINGSORDERED: Tempura Udon(10.95) — 3STAR. I have definitely had better else where and the price was quite expensive for just tempura and udon. 4 pieces of tempura only… Overall, I will not be visiting this place again any time soon. I will give them some time to work out the kinks. For the meantime, I will stop by the market around the corner if I crave Japanese food.

I really wanted to like this place because it’s close to my work… I had the Lunch special, and the Dynamite roll, both poor, if not terrible. =(The Dynamite roll, it looked like it was store bought, and they poured scallop/wild mushroom soup over it and called it a dynamite roll(no joke). Miso soup was quite salty, the lunch bento special I had the chicken was ok, but just ok. Given the price it should’ve been more than just ok. I gave it a 2 star because the staff was at least very nice/polite/speedy. As much as I wanted to like this place, it was just a little disappointing. Guess I still only have Buchanan’s for my Japanese fix that’s close to work.

Arrived for dinner on a Monday night there was maybe two other tables. Service is super slow. The hostess didn’t realize we walked in. There is only one sushi chef, it probably took us 30 mins to get our food. Food is a bit on the pricier side for the quality you are getting. Sorry but I won’t be coming back.

I walked in wanting to eat dinner and for some reason the sushi chef said I couldn’t eat there that they will be closed(but remained open for another hour after I left and served a couple of tables) in a very rude and disrespectful way his name was Jong Jong(please excuse if I miss spelled) very confused I exited very upset. I live across the street I have been coming here for years. I understand that the owners are new. Jong Jong is not the owner he’s the manager/sushi chef fortunately enough. I will be returning to speak to the owner. I am very disappointed. I had to go to 7⁄11 and buy Romen sad evening indeed

Got to say, this place has grown on me. Food is great, atmosphere is pleasant, staff very friendly and the owner is very nice. Still miss the old Wahoo but this new Wahoo is great!

There are so many Sushi restaurant to choose from that it’s rarely worth writing a review for one over another. In this case I had to say something about Wahoo Chaya. The food is over the top in quality and preparation and the owner is a real character. He remembers everyone that comes in and can recite what they liked the last time they were there. I’ve been here a few times, the first being shortly after they opened. Like all new places, they were a little slow and unsure of themselves but over the last couple of visits their service has become excellent and their good food is getting even better and better. I would highly recommend having lunch or dinner here and their perpetual happy hour makes it more affordable then most other places.

Whole new restaurant, new management, new menu, etc. Service was good, but that’s about it. Chef was accommodating in modifying one of the bento boxes, which was nice. If it weren’t for the nice people, I would’ve given the restaurant a 1 star rating. Food was overpriced for the low quality, but I think they are trying to go for more size on the plate to compensate. The salad was very bland. The chicken teriyaki was ok. At the end we were given grapes(nice gesture I guess?), but they were not washed as we had to wipe the dirt off of them because it was so visibly dirty.

Randomly drove by and decided to try this place out. It’s a cute little hole in the wall. Love the theme. Good food! Really nice owner. Reasonable prices. It was worth the try. I would definitely go back again.

Sooo living in Rosemead for decades and never had a great spot to grub… Maybe Phở, but that’s it! I mean really, good food was always everywhere but not in Rosemead. Rosemead who? Theres a spot for sushi down Arroyo Hwy and San Gabriel blvd. a little dingy Japanese place for I don’t know how long, only open when«I don’t know who wanted to eat at that time». But 4 months ago a cool spot emerged from the shadows of the meadow of roses! I had to try it! New name, new management and killer draft Sapporo for just $ 1.99 for happy hour, who cares how much the sushi is!!! Well, it’s pretty good for the price. It’s a great spot for a date since it’s a tiny place smells good and Japanese rappers and dub step in the background. Newly remodeled and looks great inside. Well, They can do without the tacky old vintage metal sings and the handwritten specials because the deco hiding behind the distraction is pretty cool! Sorry for grammar and misspells too many Sapporos!

First time here. Place has nice ambiance. Server was polite and efficient. Food was great. Prices are $$, but food quality and quantity make it worth it.

I love the happy hour yakitori!!! All the food here is awesome. The owner has an eye for design that extends to all of the food here. A must eat here in San Gabriel Valley.

I have been there three times since the new owners have changed it up, I am disappointed. I would always get an order of California rolls and a tempura udon. It was my favorite place for sushi. The three times I’ve tried the new wahoo, the food does not taste the same. The rolls are smaller & priced higher. The udon is now in a smaller bowl with so much unnecessary added toppings(unnecessary in my opinion, if you like it than great!) such as fishcake, seaweed, what I think are onion shavings or flakes of some sort, tiny mushrooms, egg, & radish. The staff is extremely friendly & very welcoming so there’s a plus side! But overall it isn’t the same in my opinion, I don’t think I’ll be going back sadly :(

2.5 stars. The food is average to below average. Bento boxes are decent but the service is SO slow. There is one girl serving all the tables, but when we ate here the tables weren’t all occupied and she was still excruciatingly slow. The restaurant isn’t very big, so I think she just needs to learn how to multi-task better. We had to ask her where our drinks were after 10 minutes had past and we didn’t have them yet. It took multiple tries to get her attention for refills and it took longer than it should have to get them after we asked her. It took forever to get our check and when we put our card on the table ready to be processed she didn’t notice it for a good 10 – 15 minutes until we called it to her attention to pick it up. So we basically had to ask her for everything. She didn’t come once to our table to check up on us or ask us for refills. Server was nice enough but she either needs to be more attentive or they need to hire an additional person.

First time in this restaurant since it changed ownership. — walked in and I was impressed with the new décor and the overhauled sushi bar — server was nice and sociable — oldies music playing on a small radio next to our table. CD was skipping and was quite annoying. — I ordered albacore sushi, spicy yellowtail roll, salad and a lobster roll. The freshness of the fish was ok/good. Lobster roll was horrible. Way to much mayonnaise. — salad dressing was not to my liking — my friends food didn’t come out until I was almost done with my food — Overall service was good — Food was sub par — Pricey Not the same. Not coming back here.
