My wife and I ate here for lunch for the first time. The food is served cafeteria style(aka Luby’s). For $ 8.50(lunch), you get one entrée, two sides, ice tea, and a homemade roll/corn bread. The café was clean and looked nice inside. It had the typical country café feel with the stuffed wild animals hanging on the wall. Today, the entrees were chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, fried catfish, and stuffed pork chops. The sides were macaroni/cheese, butter beans, carrots, broccoli, and mashed potatoes. You slide your tray down picking out your food. The workers were very friendly. At the end of the line you get your roll and pay. A table on the side has all the plastic utensils and tea/water refills. We both had the chicken fried steak. The steak was good. The hand battered meat was fairly thick and the crust covered the 6 – 8 ounce piece of meat very well. The steak was very tender and we didn’t have any issues cutting it with our plastic utensils. There was no crust hanging off the side with no meat like some places. The gravy was good as well. Along with that, I had the mashed potatoes and butter beans. The mash potatoes were red potatoes with skins on and they were good. I really liked the butter beans. My wife had macaroni/cheese and the butter beans. The macaroni/cheese was so so. All the food was hot. The catfish looked good. The only issue with this place is the ice comes out of an ice chest. Not a real big deal, but if you need more ice you have to go up to the cashier to get it. If there are people in line to pay, then it might be an issue. Fortunately, I had one of the other workers fill my glass with ice. Over all we liked this place. For less than $ 9 you get a hot lunch. As we were leaving more people were coming in, so hopefully this place will make it.
