Austin Community College – Round Rock Campus

I haven’t even started classes at this campus yet but I am completely disappointed with the way some of the staff treats the students. The older woman who works at the cashier especially. We are your CUSTOMERS. WE PAY YOU. Does that not mean anything?

I only have wonderful things to say about one individual who stood out beyond the rest! Mervin Jones! He is so motivating and will answer every question you have. He gives you all he’s got to make you knowledgeable and ready for the steps you want to take in your career. I am seriously blown away! He is the only advisor that has shown that he truly cared about me and my concerns. I have felt blown off by other advisors and have always had the feeling that their time was precious and haven’t valued me as a student but, not Mervin. All students who have questions and need guidance should go to him! He is the best person to speak to in Advising in all the ACC campuses.

A heck of a lot better then Northridge but still needs massive improvement. Whatever happened to college students being customers. Hey, ACC — we, the students, are your CUSTOMERS. We PAY you, stop treating us like garbage.
WIN: Dr. Hawk, Psychology, Dr. Anderson, Haney, US History, Dr. Love, Communication. Cameron, your Financial Aid department. Dan Dydek, head of the Psychology Dept.
FAIL: Gary Smeltzer, English — I wanted a refund on this course two weeks in because he was so horrible. You told me «no» because it was past your deadline. If I get bad food at a restaurant and I don’t want it, the manager usually cares. If I buy a product and it’s defective, I can return it. Who is your manager? Your Financial Aid department as a whole. Your advising team as a whole. Everyone is grumpy, rude, morose, what the heck? I am excited about classes and you’re not. I don’t know why and I don’t really care — the principle is I’m paying you to help me be the best I can be.
The three stars are for the facility. This is a pretty campus and it’s new, love that. Parking is tight this summer but it looks like they are in the midst of a big expansion. Use
before registering for ANY class at ACC. I have scored some great, challenging, quality classes with UT Grads and Instructors… and then some terrible ones with teachers who don’t care. Choose wisely and ask questions, the RIGHT questions. The Financial Aid department here is useless. They expect you to know everything and hand you flyers when you ask a question, especially if it’s more complicated then they feel like answering. Cameron is the one to go to, he’s the only one who will give you the time of day.

This campus is the BEST!!! It is a little out there… yes, in Round Rock is far for us Austinians… but the campus is beautiful. It’s still in the works of being fully built, but the location is wonderful (near Texas State Campus in RR). The classrooms are all very well equipped, all with electric plugs in the floor by desks that are not near walls. Some classrooms (specifically in the Medical building 3000) even have a computer at every desk. The library and learning labs all have computers. Lots of tutoring options. Great places to study that are quiet and somewhat hidden sometimes. Class sizes are pretty average. Most professors are good here so far.
One of the coolest things here is that the water fountains on the ground floors of every building I’ve been to have a filtered water dispenser specifically for water bottles. No trying to catch the arc of a stream from a traditional water fountain. Instead, there is a stand to place your water bottle on and the water comes down into it. AWESOME!
Downside (and I believe this downside explains my 4 stars whole-​heartedly): there is no cafeteria… for real. Something about there not being anyone to take a contract to build a cafeteria… not so cool. I need food during the day!!! There is a small coffee cart that serves only what it receives in a delivery in the morning, meaning that when the cart is out of food/​coffee, there’s not replenishment until the next morning. Snacks can be found in the bookstore and in vending machines. There is also a Sonic that just opened up near campus, but not within walking distance (in my opinion, at least).
Overall, great campus. I can’t wait to see what else they make happen on this campus… especially making a cafeteria. :)
