Gables and Son Construction

We hired Gables & Son Construction to install our kitchen cabinets and crown moulding as part of an overall kitchen remodel in March 2013. Dave came off as a good ol’ boy who comes from generations of contractors.
We hired Dave and gave him a deposit upfront. His worker started on our crown moulding but did not finish. Due to delays with the cabinets, Dave told us he had to start on another job and would be able to continue the work the first week of May. We understood this and agreed. However, we repeatedly tried to contact Dave to confirm the start date in May and he never returned calls. When he finally answered the phone, he heatedly argued that he told us he would restart the job in September – as if we would agree to go without a kitchen for that long!
In addition, when we asked for a partial refund of the deposit, he absolutely refused. We generously calculated the cost of the partial amount of crown moulding installed and asked that he return the rest. He has refused and his last email to us simply stated: F… You. Very professional.
I should have known about his true character when he talked badly about some of his other clients in front of us. He even made some especially racial comments about a particular Jewish client.
Warning: Tread lightly and don’t trust this man.
