I have experienced multiple Rudy’s throughout Texas. This is the only one that I will not return to. Out of meats by 7:00PM and a manager that wants to give excuses for poor slow service. I understand a bad night I survive in a service industry. A basic apology without excuses and I would have returned. This location is on the way from my office in Austin to my hotel even driving by will make me sad and hungry for excellent food. I won’t get over a rude manager. Too many choices for me to go back.

My default chain for brisket. I always get extra moist from the«toe». It just good no nonsense BBQ. There’s usually always a line but it goes by quick. I’ve never waited more than 20 mins for my food.

A unique concept combining gas, car service, and food. Had eggs ans sausage breakfast tacos with their famous fried potatoes. They were tasty. I have yet to try their beef and pork entrees based on great reviews. It’s a great casual barn-style eating place with country-style ambience. Overall a great place to recommend for fun hang outs and food.

Dependable good and fast service. The food quality is always reliable due to the volume of customers. I won’t give 5 stars because I like a little more flavor in my barbecue. When it’s made for the masses it don’t have as much flavor in my opinion.

We use to LOVE going here, but for the price their quality is really going downhill. I love prime rib and that is normally all I get but the last few times we go the prime rib looks very over done and well gray, not the pink it should be or they were out. Then they always say this is all we have. Now good business would be if you know you sell out by 11 – 1 ish or have over cooked meat you should either prepare more to serve more people, especially if it is the most expensive thing on the menu, or not offer it. Don’t ask the guest how they would like it cooked and then flop down a piece that looks like shoe leather and then treat them as if they are being an inconvenience when they say it is way over done. I have also noticed their brisket is also a hit or miss. To stay safe get the turkey, sausage or ribs. The atmosphere is that of a typical Rudy’s. Parking is horrible and lots of table sharing which is great if you don’t mind eating close to strangers. Getting into seats can be a task since tables and chairs are lined up pretty close, so try and get an end seat and be kind by scooting as close to the table as possible while seated. That way people cand scoot by no problem. Maybe these problems are just this locations so we will try the ones in Austin to see.

Breakfast Taco Review– No need to wait for tacos, just come on in and grab the taco of choice from the pre mades sitting over on the heat lamp shelves. Its first come first serve so when they are out– they are out. I am not entirely against pre made breakfast tacos but if you are fit for time these will do. on the breakfast taco scale id grade it at is a C. Flour tortilla– soft, filling. Egg– scrambled, dry, no salt or pepper. Sausage– the tiniest diced pieces. Sauce, cheese and anything else you can throw on them makes them just a little bit better. If they are out, no worries you can just walk over to the restaurant portion and grab something pretty quick. It’s gas station convenience with plenty of barbecue meat options served fast. I will usually get sausage and brisket. I use white bread like edible napkins. If you got room, try the pudding.

Rudy’s is definitely the go-to BBQ place I take my friends and family when they visit Texas! It’s not the best, but the BBQ and the Creamed corn here are pretty good! Although I do think Franklins has a better brisket, I would rather just come to Rudys cuz the brisket here is also pretty decent and I don’t think it’s worth waiting 3 – 4 hours in line at 8 am… Anyhoo the whole atmosphere of the restaurant is very chill and has a southern hospitality vibe. Usually if it’s your first time and you tell them, they give you a very loud welcome and let you sample the cuts of meat and the sides! You order up front and then there is like an open bench/picnic like area to be seated. I recommend getting the moist/cutters choice brisket if you don’t mind a little fat! The lean is a bit dry for me. They recommend about ½ lb per person usually which I think is enough unless you are a foodie like me! The sausage is pretty good and the St. Louis ribs are also a must get! Also you have to get the creamed corn! I know it’s just sugar and cream, but it is warm and delicious! I don’t really like the banana vanilla pudding but some rudys serve pecan pie which is worth a try! Overall if you are looking for a great Texas BBQ experience then Rudy’s has got it!

Afternoon Unilocalers! This is Deezy filling in for Pheebz! This place is deeeeeeeelicious! Pros 1. They sure know how to bbq here! Yummy! 2. Excellent customer service! I was itching to give the guy at the counter my money and hand in marriage! 3. Place has an amazing vibe fits in austin well. If ATX is the stink, Rudy’s would be the flies just humming around with its little baby back bbq wings! Cons 1. I didnt love the sauce :~(I think it may have been too salty. Not that it wasn’t good but it was the low point of the meal. This place is a def B.Y.O.S(bring yo own sauce) Come here! Youll love it! Get the«moist brisket» and die in a delicious heaven that is Rudy’s BBQ! — Deezy

Listen: if you need gas, or you’re just driving by and you have a hankering for some BBQ then Rudys is the place to go. My favs: Smoked Turkey Breast — super juicy, always great on bread with a little«sause» Cole slaw — take this one home and add some celery seed. If you’re at the restaurant, just a little salt. It’s classic pot luck style slaw Sausage — great snap to the casing and all around good food.

Almost, almost a 5* but their beans were terrible! Everything else was delicious and as a first timer it’s safe to say I’ll soon be a regular. With so many good BBQ joints around it was hard for me to take the advice of others and«just go to Rudy’s» as its a chain restaurant. I’m glad I did. Its worth noting that if you are a first timer(or if you’re feeling naughty and aren’t) say you are as you get to sample some of the meats and sides on offer. The clear favorite for me was the brisket(not the lean kind) which was mouthwateringly juicy, melt-in-the-mouth delicious. I love how they serve it on a piece of paper«southern style» and hand you a half loaf of bread to eat it with. The sides were mostly great too, especially the creamed corn, but the beans which are a favorite of mine in the BBQ world were like little lead bullets so I’ll pass on those next time. Great quality, great price, great service — see you again soon Rudy’s.

We transplanted to the Round Rock area from NYC and were looking forward to our first BBQ since we moved and decided to go to Rudy’s. This place is great! convenient location right of I-35 so it’s very easy to get to. We went at an odd time on a Sunday in hopes to miss the crowd, which we did — 4pm. Picked up some sides and were whisked to a counter to start ordering. As we shyly announced we were first timers, they screamed out rookies and brought us samplings of the moist brisket, lean brisket and turkey. Scrumptious! The turkey was a bit dry, but i’m also not a huge fan of turkey, so we got the chicken instead. And also a helping of the lean and moist brisket. The moist brisket was just that, moist and delicious. Definitely the best items we had from a meat perspective. But let’s not forget about the sides! The coleslaw was some of the best I’ve ever had. Potato salad was perfectly yellow german(didn’t taste any egg so not sure if they have that in it or not). The beans were ok, but a splash of BBQ sauce later and they were just as amazing. Besides the food being so good, quick and easy. the pricing was great! Compared to some of the others we’ve had in the past(cough salt lick) I would say this was at least $ 15 cheaper if not more(dependant on what you get at each BBQ spot). Definitely will be back and bringing out NYC guests to this delicious BBQ gem.

While in Austin I just couldn’t bare leaving without getting myself some BBQ. So my friend decided to bring me here. We pulled up to a gas station, thinking he was going to get some gas but instead, told me to get out of the car because we were actually at our destination. At first I was a little confused… I mean why on earth would this guy bring me to a gas station for BBQ? However, inside was a busy and casual eating establishment. I walked up to the person I was placing my order with and he asked if it was my first time and I told him it was. He then shouts«hey we’re have a rookie» and the line of men working there all said«welcome rookie.» Pretty funny. The guy that was serving me then gave me a few samples to try before actually placing my order which was amazing. The guy I was with just wound up ordering almost everything. Turkey, sausage, moist brisket, cream corn, ribs and beans. We also brought some Rudy’s sauce home with us. The moist brisket was to die for!!! I was never really a brisket kind of girl, but this was just scrumptious. The taste was smokey and the meat literally melts in your mouth. The cream corn? I usually hate cream corn or any type of corn in fact – this was just YUM full of flavor and absolutely delicious. If you do not order those two items I mentioned above then you are making a huge mistake. The turkey was a little dry in my opinion, the sausage was good – kind of tasted like turkey bacon. The beans just seemed like average beans to me. The ribs were also pretty darn good too – meat fell right off the bone. Overall a great experience and a solid place to grab some BBQ. I would come back in a heartbeat – but not too often or else I probably wouldn’t have a heartbeat.

The moist end brisket was very good, along with the sausage and pork ribs. I deduct a star because a great Q joint must have a baked tater you can load up and fried okra… Rudy’s does not… my review… my rules… sorry Rudy. The BBQ sauce bottles on the tables can take the place of a gym, gotta hold them up a long time before a few drops emerge, easily remedied by hitting the big sauce machine by all the accouterments/condiments…skip the bottles. They say good Q doesn’t need sauce and their’s qualifies as good Q, I still use a little since i’m not an edumacated BBQ aficionado. They use oak and a lot of people I’ve known that do Q in competitions, swear by oak.

Thanks to my fellow Unilocalers, we found this gem! Living in Texas now, there are so many options with BBQ. Of course the locals have recommended lots of places, we are slowly but surely will try them. This place is a nice restaurant slash gas station. Don’t let the gas station part fool you though. When I first saw it on some of the reviews I was like, gas station? Probably be some old grungy truck stop/rest stop. NOPE, I was wrong! We arrived to this restaurant and entered form an indoor open air section. Then you go through another door and there’s the restaurant part. As you review the menu you can grab a bottled beer and/or bottled soda and enjoy while you wait in line. They ask you if you’d been there before and if not the whole staff welcomes you with a «Hello Rookies!» They let you sample the turkey, briskets(there’s regular, moist, and extra moist), and creamed corn. Everything is bought by the pound or half of the item. For a party of 5, we bought a half link sausage, half pound turkey, half pound brisket, half rack of baby back ribs, pint of potato salad, quart of beans, quart creamed corn, 2 beers, 2 bottled sodas, and 2 regular drinks for about $ 70.00. Oh and they also give you free loaf bread. Not the whole bag but a good amount. The food was MUYBUENO!!! They also have their famous sauce for sale and bottled provided on the table. Let me tell you, this place is LEGIT! It was so good and filling. The store is not big but had your necessities, beer, drinks, candy, etc. I even walked over to buy a beer at the store at went back to the table. We didn’t even notice the gas station part until walking to the store and looking put the door. We will definitely be coming here again. The dangerous part is living 15min away from this gem. Please be sure to try the creamed corn. Mmmm!!! The customer service is awesome. Friendly staff and they don’t rush you which I appreciate. Rudy’s has definitely got my attention!
