Golden Image Photo

I needed to find a place that takes passport photos so I was searching around and found this place on Unilocal with good reviews. I’ve only been out of the country like six times but better to be safe and renew a passport that’s about to expire.
Golden Image Photo is a photo place run by an elderly Asian couple. I had to call them because I couldn’t find their store sign anywhere even though Google Maps said «You have arrived.» The woman that picked up the phone and told me they were in the Hong Kong Plaza. However, there’s the Hong Kong Plaza and the Hong Kong Food District right next to each other. They then told me they’re in the Hong Kong Food District. Okay great thanks.
Going inside the Food District, I still couldn’t find it. Walking around in a loop, I saw this sign at the end with bad paint that said photo and copy. By the time I got to the counter, I was greeted with soft voices. I asked, «Is this Golden Image Photo?» They were like, «Hello. Did you just call?» I said yes and I told them that I wanted to take new passport photos.
I mean really you’d have to duck your head under in order to see Golden Image Photo. I didn’t even see the sign there until I took a photo of it which was days later.
The lady walked to the counter while munching on some food and told me that I needed to show my ears and not have anything cover my eyes. I thought my bangs were okay as is but I guess not. She offered me hair clips. I pushed through the half door to get to the photo taking area. I sat down and the Asian lady held up her DSLR camera, fixed my hair on both sides, told me to tilt my head a certain way and told me to smile with no teeth showing.
Wait what, that’s like the one type of smile that I hate to do. I told her the last time I did my US passport I smiled with teeth. But then she went on to say policies change all the time and they can become more strict. Yes apparently in other countries for passport photos you can’t smile for example Thailand but I thought the US passport didn’t change their smile policy.
Anyway, yes I complied with her and tried smiling with my mouth closed. A bit of a burden because I’m not used to smiling that way so I can’t tell if I’m overdoing it or if I end up making it look forced. She had me look at the first photo that she took and I didn’t like it all. She went ahead and retook another photo Thank goodness. Because other places I’ve been to do not do retakes! I liked the second picture that she took. As a result, they just told me to come back in 15 minutes to pick up the photos.
I just walked to the boba store in the plaza, to the bakery, and came back. They were done and that actually only took 10 minutes. The pictures came out great, much better than I had expected in terms of quality and how the dimensions of the photos were perfect.
Overall, they do a great job with passport photos. Recommended!

Def recommend this little photo shop for passport photos! $ 7.50 for two photos, cash only. Has option to have a red background if necessary for the type of passport you carry. Took no more than 15 mins to get my prints. The lady who helped me was very sweet & the camera she uses is a DLSR with large flash so you don’t get a funky colored photo like other shops that only use a Polaroid camera. Located inside HK Market towards the entrance, on the right side.

$ 7.50 for two passport photos. Cash only. Takes one hour to print. Mom and Pop shop inside of HK2 food district. Support your local small businesses!

Cashier refused to admit she did not give me change back. Please keep eyes on when you make a payment since they only accept cash.

Super cute lady and awesome services! They asked me a few questions in regard to what country my visa is for. Took the picture and even allowed me to see the picture in case I wanted a retake (which I did). Waited ~15 minutes by walking around the super market. Great place and great price!

I needed passport photos for my infant baby. I got one from CVS while back with my son’s photo where he was laid on the floor with white paper backing and it came out okay. This time I went to CVS, Walgreens and rite-​aid where all said they can’t do it because she can’t sit still on her own. I told all of them how my son got his picture taken but all of them said they can’t do it that way. It’s annoying because i already got my baby daughter ready, hauled her out and got no picture done. I found Golden Image Photo on Unilocal and called ahead to ask. The lady was very nice and said it’s no problem. For baby photo she informed me that it’ll be $ 20 for 6 photos. I thought it was nice of her to let me know the price because it’s a bit more than adult passport photos. I went there next day and she put the baby on the cushioned seat, held her there and her husband (I’m assuming) took the picture. She even made sure my baby’s hair is parted nicely and fixed it a bit before taking the pic. Photos were ready in less than 15 minutes and came out great. Very quick nice job and very courteous too. Highly recommend for the passport photos.

Awesome place to get your passport photos taken. Went in, got my picture taken, waited 15 min, paid and left. Simple as that. Better are the prices, which was almost half of other places nearby.
The owners, an elderly couple, suggests going in 30 min before closing. Guess they don’t want to be late for bingo. or mahjong.

If you need passport pictures taken this is definitely the cheapest place to get them done! This place is run by a retired elderly couple so they are always super friendly and helpful. It’s located inside the HK plaza next to the travel agency across from Lollicup. Note this place is CASH only!
The prices are $ 7.50 for 2 copies, $ 12.50 for 4 copies, $ 15 for 6 copies or $ 20 for 6 copies plus digital copy or $ 15 for digital copy only. They photos are usually ready in about 15 – 20 minutes.
