We visited on Sunday May 22nd and enjoyed every minute! The wine tasting was wonderful with a relaxing atmosphere and welcoming staff made for an outstanding experience. Oh by the way… the wines are absolutely delicious!!! We are definitely going back very soon! A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with great company!!!

Great night out at Mill River Winery! Donna brought us a sampling of their reds, which were awesome. I ended up with a glass of the Breaking Point and Melina got the Petite Sirah, both loved em. This is an great, local winery and vineyard, with the shop/tasting bar in a converted old(I think she said 1890?) cider distillery(Dodge’s Sweet Cider) that was about to be knocked down before they rescued and turned it into something truly great. Friendly atmosphere and local feel. This is a must visit and just minutes away for those in greater Newburyport.

The location and décor are wonderful and bright. The service is less to be desired. Stop in with low expectations and be pleasantly surprised. Wine itself was good not great but a flight was reasonably priced and a good sampling choice.

Been meaning to try this place for months and finally got to today. Very friendly staff. Tried a red flight and ended up buying two bottles and a wedge of goat cheese. Love the atmosphere. Very cozy. Not snooty. And the service was great. I hope to be back soon.

Great wine if you enjoy Ripple and sweet sweet wines. I’ll be charitable and call it swill. I gagged upon trying it. I try hard to support local businesses, however this was pure junk

I recently returned to Rowley for a brief visit after moving to London, and I was amazed to see how much has changed; most notably the presence of the Mill River Winery. I grew up down the street from what is now the winery, and I have to say that this is the best addition to the area(not just Rowley) that anyone could ask for. The architecture is lovely and warm, the small vineyard is picturesque, and the wine is absolutely fantastic. I actually visited a couple of times in my short stay here, first on a bustling Friday where I got to sample various wines and snacks. I came again on a Wednesday afternoon when it was much quieter so I could sit and fully enjoy some conversation over a wine flight(Yes, they have wine flights!). We were first greeted in the grass by the friendliest four-legged ambassador you can fathom, a dog named Bear, who walked us up to the front door. Inside, we were served by a lovely young woman named Sara(h?) who was quite honestly perfect at her job. She was both knowledgeable about the wine she served and friendly, without being overly attentive or interrupting our conversation. And, she even gave us a sneak peak(or ‘taste’) of the soon-to-be-released Pinot Grigio. Which, by the way, is fantastic. Wine flights are available during all open hours, wine by the glass on Fridays, and tours of the vineyard on weekends. I recommend everyone swing by for a sip and say hello to Bear, Sara(h), and the lovely man who served me on Friday and told me about the tours(which I look forward to on my next trip home). Mill River Winery, I promise to visit you every time I come to Rowley.

Great tasting room and better wine! They have a vineyard and make their own wine from that, and then get grapes from other regions and do that as well! Good stuff! Don’t miss the visit!

I wish I could give Mill River endless stars! A couple years ago my parents, brother and I happened upon it on the way back from Nport. It was love at first tasting. The owners are friendly and make you feel at home. The staff is knowledgable and willing to teach you anything you could want to know about wine! Since that first visit all 4 of us have become members. I almost hate telling you how awesome it is to be a member(because selfishly I don’t want it to get too crowded!). Once you get to be part of «pick up parties» where you wine, dine, and ALWAYS meet new friends to chat with, you fall deeper in love with Mill River. My favorite wine is the Red Dory and I savor every sip! Long story short if you love farm to table, if you love wine, if you love rustic settings, good vibes and amazing people you will love not JUST the wine but spending time at the winery itself.

Again, «North Shore Magazine» hits the mark. My wife and I stopped by after reading a piece in North Shore Mag. We both ordered a flight sampler and enjoyed tasting and learning of the different wines which were sampled. I’m sorry to say I’ve forgotten the name of the person assisting us, however, I do remember he was very knowledgeable, friendly and super helpful. His excitement was such that we couldn’t help but to jump right in with both feet and purchase a case of wine to bring home. Not only that, but we became members of Mill River Winery’s wine club. We’re looking forward to our first delivery and also the many the special events in which we will participate. Thanks again to North Shore mg for turning us on to this very special, intimate winery. We look forward to the great wine and great times.

I stopped at Mill River on the way to Newburyport yesterday with a bachelorette party. As soon as we walked in, we fell in love with the atmosphere and décor of the tasting room/wine shop. Absolutely beautiful, quaint, rustic looking interior with a small wooden bar in the back. The bartender who helped us for our tasting was incredibly sweet and seemed happy to be there, and even remembered what flight each of us had ordered(we each ordered different flights, so she had a lot to remember). The woman who gave us the tour of the winery(I believe she said she was a co-owner?) was equally as impressive, and gave us a thorough tour of the vineyard and walked us through the bottling process. All of this cost us $ 25TOTAL. $ 5 per flight, complimentary tour. We each bought a bottle of wine before we left, and even that was only about $ 18. I’ll absolutely be returning in the future, and recommending Mill River Winery to anyone who loves a good glass of wine. Thank you for a great day!

I recently wrote a review of Mill river winery after having a «not so positive» experience. I was contacted by the manager soon after it posted and he was fantastic. He clearly wants to please the customer and cares about customer relations. Something I find very lacking in most of today’s businesses. I think we will be returning someday soon hopefully…

Stopped here as we were driving back to Boston from Plum Island and the place looked so inviting! It is a small shop and although I am a picky wine drinker, the owner poured me two different wines not on the current tasting list — a Riesling and a sweeter red — in addition to their standard white and both were quite pleasant! A very lovely place to stop with friendly, attentive and knowledgable employees who really love wine

Didn’t plan on stopping here but the Open sign was very inviting as we were driving by and we stopped in for a tasting. The owner was in the shop and you could tell he had pride in his business and was happy to share facts about all the wines. The wines were pleasant, with great aromas and the owner also brought us a few for free that were on the house! Great experience with a great local business! Keep it up!

stopped in here after a day at Plum Island beach and a farmer’s market visit. perfect ending to an awesome day. after a wine tasting and friendly chat with Chris we purchased several bottles of wine that we sampled with a wonderful local dinner that night. It is great to be able to sample wine first so you do not experience buyers remorse later. Thank you for your hospitality Chris!

Maybe, when someone calls to verify that you will be open for Memorial Day, don’t say yes unless you actually know. As a winery, you should know the MA rules of distributing alcohol on this holiday. I find it unfortunate that family had driven all the way from PA to visit this weekend and wanted to go to this winery only to find WHENWEGOTTHERE that it was closed. Again, we called not once but twice to verify that they were open and wouldn’t have wasted our time driving out here if the answer was no.

To celebrate a birthday this weekend my girlfriends and I decided to do a tasting at Mill River Winery on Saturday. We all went in with very LOW expectations — both of the atmosphere and the wine. I’ve been to a few wineries in NH and the experiences were not great(as was the wine). I’ve been to quite a few wineries in Napa Valley, CA and Shenandoah Valley, VA and I wasn’t expecting exceptional wine in Rowely, MA, but was hopefully for something enjoyable. We were beyond pleasantly surprised! We walked into a very nice, rustic storefront and tasting room. Plenty of wine accessories, snacks, chocolate to purchase. The place was absolutely packed(a rainy but warm day, guess everyone was looking for something to do) so seating was tough. In general I would suggest they add a little more seating(I’m not sure if they have seating outside when the weather is nice. If not I would suggest that too since there was no place to go and enjoy a purchased bottle of wine.) The wine was actually very good! The tastings included five pours and I really liked three of the five(the other two were not bad, but not everyone is going to love every wine, of course). The select cab was our collective favorite and although it was very good, I do think the bottle was way overpriced(It was a very good, local wine but it was certainly not a $ 50 bottle of wine.) They kept hors d’oevres out and I’m not sure if that’s an every day thing or special for that day, but they were all very good too and made for an even better afternoon considering it took about two hours to complete a tasting. I will say that they were very understaffed for the crowd there that day, but I’m just going to assume they weren’t expecting such a rush. Overall, we’ll go back again. If the crowd and service is the same I’ll knock the rating down to a 3(it shouldn’t take nearly that long for a tasting) but provided that part was a fluke this is an enjoyable way to spend a couple hours drinking good wine.

What a gem of a place! In Rowley off the Newburyport Turnpike is a wonderful winery with rustic interiors and a staff of friendly people to guide you. Last night we attended a cheese making wine fest with Luca from Italy. Fresh mozzarella cheese over delicious tomatoes. four kinds of wine that tasted perfect with each paring of foods, and then dinner! I was so stuffed I felt like the ball of mozzarella!!! Cannot wait to go back for more. Perhaps a Girls-Night-Out event???

I went here for a event and had a great time. The space is so comfortable, the people are so friendly and knowledgeable and the wine was superb. We paid $ 10 for a tasting event but you can come in anytime and pay $ 5 to sample their six wines. Ann, the hostess and sommelier, was great. I bought their chardonnay and red, which are the first ones I have found to my liking. Can’t wait to go back. They also sell at the Salem Farmers Market on Thursdays.
