Was in the area from Los Angeles and visited this place several time, heard it was the«best of the Coneys» and although I didn’t try any others, I can say that for it’s class, it rivals anyplace in LA… bravo

I’m not very big on Coney Islands, but I really like this one. The ambiance is a family setting, noise medium, service is on point, and food is delicious.

Ok ok, this place is classic Detroit Coney! If your looking for some comfort food and a good place to have a quick meal this is it! My Favorite thing on the menu here are there Hani Wraps! Love and missed this place!

They décor here gives it a throwback diner feel with vinyl booths and such. The food here is nothing out of the ordinary. I had a spicy Hani and a coney dog and thought both were average. The coney dogs are about 2.29 or so and the hank was around six bucks. I’m only in Michigan for a couple months and thought I would try the coney dog since this area is known for it. Wasn’t super impressed with this place as its just a dog with chili, beans, onion and mustard. The Hani is chicken and lettuce wrap with two different types of cheeses on a warm pita. This place is alright if you’re hungry and pass by it, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here.

Your average Coney. I’ve heard tons of things about this place since it’s open 24/7, and yesterday after a drive-in movie in Plymouth, we headed here for some 2am eats. Waitservice was fine and quick, food at National Coney’s for me is always just okay, though our waffle fries were great. I tried the famous Hani, in small size, it was fine but nothing special, IMO. I’d come here again if I wanted late-night eats.

National Coney Island is your typical go to coney. This one in Royal Oak is usually much better than the one in Troy. I don’t get when they bring you your food and the fries are cold. Clearly they have been sitting under the warmer light for a long time. What I really don’t get is the snotty attitude we received from the waitress, Nicole W., when we politely asked for fresh hot fries. With a roll of her eyes she took away our fries to return them with hot over cooked fries. Guess we can’t be picky, but is it so wrong to ask for something cooked properly. The rest of the meal was ok, but quite clearly we irritated Nicole W., as our service went downhill from there. Her tip reflected her service and was not due to the poor quality food. A smile and politeness get you a lot further than being rude to your customers.

we ordered a Coney, a Hani(chicken pita wrap), taco salad and chocolate shakes. the was good. not great. but the shake, while a bit small, was top-notch.(I like to get the«extra» in the blending cup.) prices were good, so no complaints. they’re open 24 hours, so I’d probably come here late at night(when other places are closed). very friendly service!

Chicken lemon rice soup is always good. Tip: dip yr fries in it. There’s a big ass hot dog on the wall. I like that. I also like the squiggly mirror, and racing USA video game. I’ve yet to have a rude server. That’s always nice. I always order the hani. They now have a buffalo sauce hani. That’s where the magics at. What really puts the food over the top, is smoking pot before. Holy shit. SOOOOOGOOOOOD. If they offer to sell me that giant hot dog, I’ll give then five stars.

My Go-To Coney in The Joke. I love the food so much. The coneys are great, the breakfast is always tasty. I love the chicken lemon rice soup. Even if I am getting breakfast, I will order a bowl of the soup. I love how they have beer at this location, which is a plus if you need some hair of the dog. Great employees! Scotty Tip — Ask them to top your hash browns with some chili. It is a nice added bonus to any breakfast, trust me!

This is clearly the best coney island to go to. They are always busy. Right across the street from the bar so they are slamming them in at late hours. I frequent this location about once or twice a week. Kim is the waitress to choose on the midnight shift! She always makes sure you are attended to and gets you whatever you need without an attitude or hesitation. As all servers should. The food always comes out quickly and hot. I honestly don’t recall ever sending my food back here. It’s traditional American food with friendly service and I and glad to go here on any ocasion because they gladly accommodate any of our needs.

This represents everything you would want out of a coney island. Great classic club, fries, strawberry shake, and huge cokes. Definitely a must when looking for that type of cuisine and atmosphere.

The blueberry pancakes and sausage were yummy. The pancakes are huge and fluffy. I don’t know how they do it, but the coffee in my mug stayed piping hot, even after I put an ice cube in it. Perhaps they have a secret?

I love diners. I just love the unique charm and old fashioned feel they often have… so I was excited to visit Coney Island. I know NCI is well known in Michigan but I wasn’t impressed. I stopped in well after 1am after a late flight. My friend said National Coney Island was one of the few options still open aside from bars or clubs. First impression: Motif was dated but cute. I liked the theme and atmosphere. Upon entry the smell of bleach greeted us. I was turned off but eventually the smell subsided enough that it didn’t bother me. I ordered a grill cheese, fries and the chicken lemon soup. The soup was good but the lemon was much too overpowering. The cooks definitely could stand to scale it back a bit. The meal came and the fries we’re lukewarm. They didn’t taste very good so I didn’t bother sending them back. The grilled cheese was ok but not the best I’ve ever eaten. My friend had an angus burger and fries. His fries were cold too but he said his burger was delicious. Our waitress was nice and provided acceptable service. Overall, I wasn’t impressed with NCI but it was an acceptable destination given that there were few available alternatives.

Good breakfast spot for the cheap price. The omelet and hashbrowns were good and the price was cheap.

Coney Island. One of a trillion in SE Michigan(approximately). The times I’ve been here it’s been rather empty, which has been great because we get attentive service. The servers are about 50⁄50 – nice/rude or indifferent. Food is decent – typical diner food. Small breakfast menu, but the food is decent for the price. There’s a TV in every corner and the dining room is huge. So I’m assuming there are times when they get busy.

This place is an institution. I spend many of my dollars here after the bar here. You can’t beat the coney special(loose ground beef chilli coney). All their hotdogs can be sloppy crunch and has this amazing chilli flavor taste and a punch of cumin afterwards.

This is one of the best Coney Islands in metro Detroit. The place is large and in a solid location, in Royal Oak but away from the bars and restaurants downtown. On Friday and Saturday nights you will see many a drunk person, from those who can barely stay awake and are THIS close to face-planting in their chili cheese fries, to the ones who are so loud that they forget others are eating around them. I’m not a grumpy old«get-off-my-lawn-you-punk-kids» kind of guy, so that stuff doesn’t bother me. If anything it’s entertaining. The prices are solid and you can be pretty damn full for less than $ 10. I don’t really drink much pop anymore, but a fountain Coke from Coney Island is the ultimate in beverages. There’s just something about fountain drinks that hit you the right way. My personal favorite Coney food is the Hani. You get your chicken, lettuce, tomato inside a pita wrap, and I love their honey mustard sauce. The fries are pretty good, too, as they’ve been at Coney’s for many years. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The best part about Coney may be the flexibility of the meals. You can eat breakfast at night, or a burger at 10:30 in the morning on a Sunday — and speaking of Sundays, you will see a great hangover crowd eating their drunken sorrows away. I have been there myself and there’s nothing like a greasy pick-me-up to get you back on the right track towards your sofa and movie watching. Sundays are like the bizarro versions of Friday and Saturday nights. Anyway, I love the omelets(especially the Western — which I swap ham with bacon). It is good, and the hash brows are doused in grease. It’s like that anywhere I suppose. The wheat toast with butter is the icing on the cake. I have had burgers, chicken fingers, nachos — you name it, I have probably eaten it. You need to eat here in moderation or you will become a hippo in due time. It’s comfort food, in my opinion. So whether you want to people watch or just eat a variety of food at affordable prices, this is the place to go. Satisfy your palette !!

I can still remember my first Hani. The year was 1995, I had just starting working for First of America bank on Fourth and Main and one of my coworker friends was talking about going to National for a Hani. «What’s a Hani?» I asked. «Ohhh only the greatest pita sandwich ever!!» my friend replied. We went, and she was pretty close to right. For being so simple, it sure was a really great pita wrap! Years and years have passed now and I’ve eaten many, many Hanis. THIS location is definitely starting to slip. The last TWO times I ordered Hanis for carry out from this National, they had NO mayo on them whatsoever, the cheese wasn’t melted and the chicken was really overcooked to where it was dry and chewy. No one wants to pay good money for that!!! If I wanted a chew toy, then I suppose I would be a dog, and have a chew toy. Carry out fries are pretty much always gross, so can’t really fault you there. I have stopped ordering carry out fries from pretty much anywhere. Don’t keep screwing it up for your good name, National. I know you have the ability to make a delicious Hani. so please start doing that again. Otherwise I’m gonna have to start going elsewhere. There are too many coneys that make a superior«Hani-like» wraps that I would rather eat, and it shouldn’t be that way. It’s your baby, so treat it right. /Haniwarning!!!

I went to National Coney Island while in Detroit because of all the rave I heard about it. It was less than okay. I had the Hani, and it was mediocre at best. Let’s just say, if you’re watching your waistline, this may not be the place for you in Detroit unless you’re going to opt for a non-traditional item. Sorry, but I’ll pass on NCI the next time I’m here.
