Awesome climbing spot! There’s a wide variety of difficulties and types of routes. Everything from slab to huge overhangs. Even though the guide book is out of print, the old one we borrowed worked perfectly for us. All of the trails and approaches were pretty well marked, too. We went one day for labor day weekend so it was very crowded but still fun to walk the trails and explore routs even if we didn’t climb much. And for just $ 3 for parking, what a great way to spend the day! Watch out for ground bees nests on the edges of the trails, I was unfortunate enough to step on a nest but they only got me once!

Located at 43.802247, –71.830370(put these lat/long coordinates into GoogleMaps), Rumney is a world class rock climbing area. According to the Mountain Project, «Rumney is one of the premier sport climbing destinations in the country.» This was my first time climbing outside and it was a wonderful experience. There are many routes for both beginner and expert climbers alike. We completed the following routes: Parking Lot Wall NOTE: If it has been raining, several routes will be quite wet! — A Week With Pete(5.3) — This was our first route of the day. It was a pretty easy warm-up or beginners route. As a beginning intermediate climber, I completed the route with relative ease. The Meadows — Easy Terms(5.8) — I wasn’t able to complete this one, but the others in my party were. The bottom section has a lot of difficult hand holds(or lackthereof) but once you got to the upper half, it was easier. — Rose Garden(5.7) — This was a really fun climb, difficult in the middle where the hand hold are more just places to grasp with the tips of your fingers, but incredibly satisfying to complete. This was also my first lead climb! — Lies & Propaganda(5.9) — A challenging a fun route that our trip leader lead. The anchors are to the right of the top(out of sight from the bottom).
