Really good take out Sushi. Avocado salad was excellent as well. Only drawbacks are parking is a nightmare and they screwed up my bill for pick up a few times.

Such cute cozy place in downtown Rutherford close to rt 17 and 3 if you are driving and also close to the train station if you are using public transit. We walked in at 2:45 and realized they were closing at 3 pm for lunch break. They accommodated us and kept the restaurant open until we were done with our lunch. Their lunch specials are awesome be to box also comes with miso soup for $ 11. Also ordered yami and Steve rolls which were both amazing! We will be regulars at this sushi heaven!

Sushi was very fresh and the wait staff was friendly and quick. They even offered us spring rolls on the house! Seating area is divided in sections and has a great atmosphere. The Yamada roll with purple rice was great!

Very delicious and fresh food. Good atmosphere. Great décor, but the soda refrigerator looks really bad on the dining floor. I think Mr. Owner that you should move it and change the music to something more appealing.

Definitely the best sushi spot I’ve been to around the area. Everything they serve is simply delicious and fresh. Their crabmeat avocado salad is so die for! As for their vegetable & pork maki which is perfectly crisp and full of flavor. Aside from their food being outstanding the staff is extremely friendly. I walked in around 2:50pm not knowing they were closing at 3pm and the waiter urged me to stay. He made it clear not rush whatsoever as they were simply cleaning up and re-opening at 5pm. All I have to say is that this place offers stellar service & food. Definitely a must try.

Our favorite sushi place in Rutherford! We always enjoy eating here — just make sure to bring our own bottle. My husband and I always get the rolls — we are a big fan of the love roll. The waiters are super friendly and helpful. Overall it is a nice place with good food. Highly recommended!

While the GF and I are huge fans of that«other» sushi place in town, I decided the other night that I wanted sushi that didn’t involve driving the car. Glad I did! Yamada sushi is located right in the heart of Rutherford, and while it doesn’t look like much from the outside, what awaits inside is a pleasant surprise! The fish is very fresh and tasty. The Miso soup is Miso-ey, and the veggie spring rolls were great. The service was great, quick, friendly. Prices were fair, maybe a little on the steeper side for some things. I like that you can sit at the bar and watch the chefs ply their trade. And as all restaurants in this silly little town, it’s BYOB. I will definitely be going back! 4 Solid Stars!

Charlie runs a top notch sushi joint in Rutherford’s downtown district. Eclectic, charming traditional décor, in a great location serving up mouth watering cuisine. The sushi is super fresh served with creative roll combinations of flavors and ingredients. The appetizers are delicious, right portioned and always quickly prepared. Whether sitting at the bar watching the chefs prepare or with a large group at the window seat tables watching the world go by while enjoying a wonderful meal with friends or family. The staff is excellent, attentive and courteous. Great price, always filling, leaving you stuffed and satisfied. The only problem is that it’s so good, you’ll always want to go back.

LOVE this restaurant. I’ve been coming here since high school and they’ve only gotten better. If you’re a foodie, this is definitely a must try. The service is great and the food, even better! It’s byob which is always a plus in my book. Don’t leave without trying their mochi ice cream! That would just be a sin haha. It’s amazing! Rutherford has always had its hidden treasures, and I would def recommend Yamada Sushi to any sushi lover.

Been coming to yamada for over 10 years! This is top notch sushi! Very fresh and high quality fish. The owner Charlie is the best! Get the J&J roll, it’s no longer on their menu but it’s the best! When my husband and I get a night to go out 4 out of 5 times we pick to go to Yamada! We have brought many friends here and it is NEVER a disappointment! You will love it too!

The quality of the fish was fresh. The restaurant is very subtle, a little mom and pop joint. The pieces of sushi and sashimi are good sizes(some places have a way smaller cut). The servers there are younger but all very pleasant and friendly. Their rolls are also very yummy. The restaurant is BYOB. I definitely recommend Yamada if you are looking to satisfy your hunger. They also gave us complimentary spring rolls to start.

I usually order from Nizi Sushi, but they’re closed on Sundays so I tried Yamada for the first time. I ordered the Yamada Roll, Tuna Roll, and 2 pieces of Octopus, and was quite pleased with the taste and freshness of my meal. They even threw in an extra piece of Tuna. The Yamada roll had just a little kick to it, and was flavored well. The Tuna was simple but tasted very fresh. While I love Nizi, I think Yamada will make it into my sushi rotation in Rutherford.

I normally give very good reviews, but here goes. Since it was my first time at Yamada Sushi, I asked the server several different questions about the sushi rolls. I finally decided upon the special«One» Super Dynamite Roll $ 11.95. While I was waiting for my entrée, I was given a complementary miso soup. This miso soup is usually complementary in most sushi restaurants. A very large sushi roll platter was served to me. While eating this large sushi roll, I was not thrilled on the quality of the sushi. I continued to eat and realized there was a second type of roll in front of me. I asked the server what I was eating. He told me I ordered two rolls. This was not true. We did have a brief exchange of words. Anyway, it appeared that the sushi chef might have been the manager. He told me I would only be charged for the one roll. The server did apologize. The one plus is this small restaurant is clean. Just want to say, I didn’t take the remaining sushi roll home with me. Despite this situation, I am a generous person and gave a three dollar tip along with 2 Stars. The whole Park Avenue area of Rutherford appears to be really booming now. I hope management gets more organized with service and food quality.

This place was ok. Very small sushi joint and it’s enough to fill your sushi cravings. There were only 2 waitresses the night we went, which was enough since the place couldn’t really fit too many people running around. Anyway, we ordered the Yamada roll and Park Avenue Roll. Both rolls were ok. The tuna in the yamada roll didn’t taste as fresh and looked kinda dry. The overall presentation of the food was great but I have to say that I have had better sushi elsewhere. The service was ok… we didn’t get our teas refilled and weren’t offered a refill or water. The price was decent but I’d much rather pay the price for something a little bit fresher. This place is not ideal for groups of people and is just a spot to help fill your sushi cravings if you live close by. This place seems very ideal for take outs as there were many patrons who came in to pick up orders.

So I wanted«ramen soup» and I Unilocaled around my area and found this place. So I called and placed an order and they said«25 minutes»…ok no problem! So I ordered the following: Ramen soup which comes with an egg. It had a nice spice to the soup and the egg was cooked all the way… it was good but the sushi it came with was NOTGOOD. It came with 4 pieces of sushi. A salmon, a tuna, a white fish and a shrimp… they were all dry and not fresh. Let’s say I wouldn’t go back here for sushi. My husband had the udon tempura soup which had a nice spice to it as well. It was good, but the tempura shrimp it came with was very bland. So overall soup was just good. I would give 2 ½ for the soup only but the sushi did not impress me at all.

I have a hate and love relationship with this restaurant. Its small, yet cozy, warm and inviting. On the weekends they seem to make their money from pick-up orders and not dine in diners. I usually go on the weekend and there’s usually 1 – 2 tables tops on a Saturday night which makes you question if its worth staying. Nevertheless, I always do because I love the food. They provide complimentary Haru Maki(deep fried vegetable rolls) to start. They are ok, not the best or worst either just very very crispy with not much going on. So I ordered the garden salad — wasn’t good, just blah Spider appetizer(deep fried soft shell crab) — delicious! Crispy, meaty and full of flavor and texture. Yami Roll(Shrimp tempura, avocado, topped with spicy crab and crunch) — My favorite, but its small and not filing Shrimp Teriyaki– Small portion, Overcooked but tasty Mouchi green tea– frozen solid, but tasted good What I dislike about this place is the small portions they provide and lack of good service. For the price they charge, they should give more food, I usually leave satisfied but never stuffed. Why is service so crappy if you only have 2 tables in the restaurant to tend to? I used to waitress so I know it’s not that difficult. If they can improve on those 2 things, the ratings would change drastic for this place, not just from me but from fellow Unilocalers as well.

This spot is super average/borderline a little below. The place is small and we grabbed a seat in the back. We ordered up four rolls thinking that would be more than enough for a light bite for two people. It wasn’t since these rolls are teeny tiny. Not a lot of fish, not a lot of rice, sloppily put together, they all pretty much fell apart upon eating. They start you off with a microwaved fried veggie roll. Nice touch, but not really. The fridge opened and I peered inside to see the frozen packaged bags of gyoza and shumai, so there’s that. The rolls took forever to come and when they did, we were surprised to see that they weren’t overflowing with delicious fish, but a bit meager. They were good, just small and not cheap. Usually when you order a special roll off a sushi menu, your eyes widen with anticipation since at $ 15 a pop they are a meal in itself. Not so much the case here. Definitely not a horrible spot for sushi, I just think you can do better.

Hells bells, this place took me by surprise! Passing it 1,000 times and never trying it was a true sin. Small place with not a lot of seating and not a lot of ambiance. It was a Tuesday night so it was only us and a few other couples. We both decided to go the sushi roll route instead of the sashimi route. Long day and we were both craving some rice carbs. The rolls were presented nicely and they delivered on taste. I hate to say that the«sushi was fresh» because Goddamn, sushi better always be fresh… it’s raw fish, for crying out loud! But nevertheless, the salmon was melt-in-your-mouth amazing and the rice was the right temperature and seasoned very well. Street parking only, which can be a pain in the bodangs in Rutherford. You don’t need to pay the meter past 6:00PM, so save your quarters. They offer lunch specials, however, they close for their own lunch break between 3:00PM and 5:00PM on weekdays. Roll-tastic!
