Wow, what a great find! Conveniently located on Route 7&4(where the old midway diner was). Pizza was extremely fresh and yummy, service was attentive and helpful. Lots of local craft beer selections that I look forward to trying when I’m not the designated driver. They keep pizza trivets and crushed red pepper on the table for your convenience. Bathrooms were very clean and the parking is very easy. Highly recommend if your passing thru the area especially for the price, 5 of us ate for $ 35(including two salads).

Don’t count on them having what is on the regular menu. Ordered the Tap House meatballs which come in a brandy cream sauce. They were out of the sauce and I was there for lunch!

We called ahead with a large party. We’re told that the wait time would be a half hour. We waited for 45−1hr. 15 – 20 minutes to get a drink at the bar. They were very understaffed, nobody to bus tables. No teamwork. Once we sat down the waitress finally came and apologized, she was very nice but had no support from management. We were there for three plus hours. Finally got our food, it was decent, but a lot of the order was wrong. Some of us didn’t get our food at all. We asked to speak with the manager, who never came over. Apparently there were two there that day, neither one would make eye contact with us. No apology, nothing. We received 20% off our bill. Not a good experience, we won’t be back.

We noticed this new restaurant since our last visit to the area last year. Wood fired pizza and beer? Let’s go! At night, you could easily miss it; but it’s in between the Mobile Gas Station and a tire place. We were seated promptly and were greeted by a nice, friendly server. I wasn’t super hungry, so I went for their Farmstand bruschetta, tomatoes, mozzarella, garlic, basil, and olive oil. I could have sworn that there was balsamic on it, but perhaps it was something else. The cheese was super creamy and tasted great with the tomatoes and basil. My husband ordered a personal pepperoni pizza. We both enjoyed our food and the simple ambiance of the restaurant. There was a TV(or 2) with the games on, not that I was watching. My eyes were glued to the other TV that has a great view of the oven while your pizza is cooking! Pretty cool! They have a lot of beers on tap which is perfect if you’re in a beer mood. Check their menu or ask your server what they’ve got. Overall, a great place to go to after a day of snowboarding or skiing or exploring Rutland.

2 stars is actually a stretch here. 1.5 really. First off… light your signs. Had to use the navigation to find this place behind the Mobil gas station. In fact, take some of the inside lights and put them outside. Holy heck it is bright in there. Definitely not a tap house feel… more like a hospital. Also, the menu is limited. In fact, not sure I have ever seen a tap house without some burger selections. Highlights: Good beer selection. But this is a tap house… so you would assume this. Also, the poutine was pretty good. Lowlights: Unfortunately everything else. Wings were nice and big, but sauce was blah and couldn’t tell the difference from one wing to the next. The Thai wings had good flavor but were burned to hell. And the pizza… I had high hopes as wood fired pizza is the best. The dough tasted ok, but wasn’t cooked enough to get crisp. The sauce was the killer though. No sauce needs to be that sweet. A jar of store brand sauce would have been much better. Seriously… Terrible sauce. The bacon pizza tasted like it had bacon bits… plus a handful of unripe tomato chunks. Odd. Pepperoni itself was tasty on that pie, but the sweet sauce killed it. And maybe it is just me, but I prefer my pizza to be cut normal, not in little squares. So, if you are looking to grab a beer and some fries, go for it. Otherwise… might want to carefully choose your menu items.

Carry out a order from this place when I was in the area. We ordered three pizzas. Pizzas were made from all the ingredients from the area and they were delicious. Worth trying it.

This place was great! Was visiting Killington for a ski weekend and staying in a local hotel. Was looking for some good eats after a long day on the slope. Had their Mac and cheese and meatball sub. Yummy! Also really liked the atmosphere.

Yummmm… that was the take home message from my experience here. The service was fine, friendly enough, though perhaps a bit slow initially. The ambiance is casual and pretty unremarkable; it could be a bit loud at times. The have a great selection of beers, as well as wine and cocktails. I had the Sea Dog Blueberry Wheat Ale, which came with actual blueberries in it, and was totally unique and delicious! My partner had a White IPA which was also fabulous. My Dad had two mojitos, the first of which was really quite bland/bad, and the second a bit better. The food was also a big hit for everyone, especially the pizzas and apparently the spicy wings. I will definitely be back!

Popped in here for a family feed. Good range of food on offer from simple offerings to burgers and pizza. Drink selection was excellent with many local vendors supported. Started with a variety of Chicken wings in various flavours, a chicken Caesar salad, and progressed through two pizza varieties. We all went home satiated and the staff were very pleasant. Prices were reasonable too.

I come here every time I’m in Rutland. The wood fired pizzas are fantastic. On this particular visit, I had a bartender named Janine. She was wonderful, despite constant heckling and criticism from a douchbag named Phil, and a milder version of a douchbag named Tobin. She was very attentive to me in spite of how busy she was. Vermont tap house is lucky to have an employee like her. As for the two above mentioned male employees… I have never seen a display as unprofessional as this. I will continue to patronize this establishment, but not for Phil and Tobin. My continued support is for Janine. If it wasn’t for her excellent customer service, my rating would be 2 stars.

«The Vermonter» pizza will change your life. I mean, you’ll still be in Rutland VT, but your outlook will be a little sunnier. For a brief moment, at least. Then you’ll remember Rutland is the heroin capital of the Northeast. So you’d better order two. As other reviewers have so accurately pointed out, the lighting in this restaurant is a bit harsh. While it seems like such a trivial gripe to anyone who hasn’t actually experienced it, try to imagine eating a delicious meal in front of a WWII air raid searchlight. Or perhaps hurtling into the blinding inferno of a billion suns. It ruins the mood. It makes what would truly be an incredible culinary experience feel a little less special– like you’re sitting in a high school cafeteria or something. The food is anything but cafeteria fare. The crusts are crispy/chewy with just the right amount of wood-fired oven char. The toppings are all super fresh and the combinations are nothing short of inspired. I say this with all due reverence– whoever thought up some of these pizzas has the palate of a golden god or goddess. I bow before you, sir or madam. I will sacrifice the animal of your choice shouldst thou command it. I was skeptical when one of my party ordered the Vermonter, but it turned out to be the hit of the night. The combination of thin-sliced apple, caramelized onion, salty bacon and sweet drizzled Vermont maple syrup plays perfectly with the fresh acidity of the tomato sauce and richness of the cheese. It’s a mouth full of Vermont country charm. Like, the Vermont surrounding Rutland, I mean. Without all the junkies and stuff, you know? The beer selection here is also unbelievable and features a slew of local and national offerings that will please any beer drinker, whatever your preference. My only criticism is that a handful of the beers on the menu seem to be consistently out of stock. Though perhaps this was actually noted on the drink menu and I didn’t see it on account of my retinas having been burned out of my head by the lighting situation. I’m blind. But I know excellent pizza when my seeing eye helper pushes it into my mouth and instructs me to chew. Try it!

The Tap House resides atop the ruins of the old Midway Diner. Yea I’m sure some of you remember the late night early AM breakfasts at Midway that you hoped would reduce your impending hangover. Since this was a late lunch the house was pretty empty. Our hostess cheerfully showed us to a booth and our very capable server was not far behind. As advertised the Tap House has a great election of beers. I had a great red ale from? Kingdom? brewery in No Vt. The spicy Thai wings were a great starter. I ordered the Chicken Parm and frankly it was not good. The sauce was bland at best, the chicken tough, and I’m not sure what kind of cheese they used but it was not provolone. If I was not so hungry I would have just left it after 2 bites. My buddy reported his pizza was very good. If I return It’s beer, wings, and pizza I guess…

Amazing beer menu. Like two pages. Visiting out-of-towner and I was a bit overwhelmed. We don’t have this kind of selection where I come from. Pizza was very good — We got a bacon pizza and a goat cheese, both of which were excellent. We were not in a hurry and had braced for a long wait time(as some reviews had complained about) but honestly it was not that long of a wait. Waitstaff was very pleasant and chatty. Took good care of us. Ambiance seemed a bit like a Perkins. Clean, large capacity. Not very intimate and possibly too brightly lit, but you’re really looking for something to complain about if you’re going to this level. Great meal, would definitely go again.

Great beer selection with wood fired pizza and the most friendly staff in town. I can’t wait to go back again. The salads were fresh and hearty. The pizza was thin crust and straight out of the oven. Also the gluten free pizza was great as per my mother in-law.

My wife wanted 2 ½ stars but I liked the pizza better than she did. Pizza was good, not great. Pulled pork pizza with not that much actual pulled pork on it. Beer selection wide and varied, a lot local. ABV is posted with each selection. BUT, what they don’t tell you, is that any brew of 8% or more will get you a half beer — 6 oz., for the same price! But if you order the one right next to it, at 7.5%, you get 12 oz. for the same price! Hard not to see this as a ripoff. The waitress was pleasant and cheerful, in a hurry, and did everything a waitress is supposed to do, but no more. Clean and bright — typical fast food sort of venue. Bottom line — okay, but there are plenty of other better choices locally, so we’ll probably not be back. Disappointing.

Our waitress was very nice and explained our gluten free options and answered all of our menu questions and checked with kitchen on some items. We each had a ½ salad but could only have oil & vinegar as no dressings were gf. For our entrees had 2 different 12″ gf pizzas that were really good! We’ve eaten A LOT of gf pizza and their pizza crust was the best so far. We will totally go back!

As the reviews have noted, the dining experience is all over the map. I think this is in part to expectations and that this spot is relatively new and still working out the kinks. Beer selection is pretty good, though each time I have been there they have not had a brown ale and there is a great local brewer just up rte 7 in Brandon, that has a one worthy of their attention. If you want basic pizza and no frills atmosphere, this spot is not the best place for you — head to Ramuntos or The Upper Crust. If you want more traditional Italian food, try Three Tomatoes. If you want a leisurely, family friendly dining experience, thin pies with more choices and a wide range of beer, give this a try. The pizzas could be a little crispier, given their wood fired status. i have yet to order off the pizza menu so can’t comment on the rest of their offerings.

We planned to stop in Rutland for lunch on the way back to Philly from Killington on a recent weekend ski trip and found Vermont Tap House on Unilocal. The Sunday afternoon we went there, the restaurant was pretty empty – no trouble getting seats. The first thing I noticed was the gigantic open kitchen and the wood-fired pizza oven. We started with the cheese plate and the fried cheese curds. The cheese curds were okay. They were a bit overcooked with too much breading – overpowering the salty creaminess you normally expect with curds. The cheese plate was good, but slim. About 4 ounces total of gouda, cheddar, and another light, hard cheese and a ball of goat cheese. There were only 4 apple slices and three toasts on the plate to eat the cheese, which was not enough. We split the BBQ and Buffalo chicken pizzas for our entrees. We went with the individual sized, which was good because they are huge. For some reason our pizza was cut into rectangles instead of slices. Didn’t affect the taste obviously but it was weird. The open kitchen became a problem when every time an order was up it was shouted through the restaurant, and you could hear all of the back of house conversations. Very annoying and for a place that is fairly expensive, did not help the ambiance.
