This was my second consecutive year coming to the Atrium for Easter brunch and like last year I really enjoyed myself. In general, there is nothing truly outstanding about the Atrium; it’s the main restaurant inside Doral Arrowwood Resort, a dated hotel sitting on a golf course in Rye Brook that’s mainly used for people on business trips. Even though hearing that may detract one from eating here, there’s a certain nostalgia I feel when dining at the Atrium; it brings back distant memories from childhood when my family used to come here for Easter Sunday(honestly that’s half the reason I enjoy it so much). The décor of the Atrium, like the hotel it sits in, is kind of dated — however, for Easter they did a good job adding splashes of pastels here and there. The dining room is spacious with floor-to-ceiling windows that show nice views of the golf course, and since their Easter brunch is so popular they had private rooms along the perimeter open with tables as well. Food is served buffet style, and there’s a lot to choose from. Breakfast, salads, mains, a carving station, an omelette station, an ice cream bar, plus an abundance of desserts are readily available — there’s pretty much something for everyone. Because it’s a buffet, however, the food is not the highest quality. It’s not bad, it’s just buffet food. This isn’t a cheap buffet(which mirrors the Atrium’s non-holiday dinner service as well). Base price is ~$ 50 per person, and with tax and tip it can get up there. They do this special brunch service for other holidays like Mother’s Day, but I’ve only done Easter and really I don’t plan on coming back here for anything but Easter. While their regular dinner service leaves something to be desired, the nostalgia factor and the decent food will draw me back to The Atrium.

The is a buffet and a buffet is what it is. This particular buffet is pretty good. Although I am not a buffet kid of girl, this one had really fresh choices. A good variety of salads with great toppings and also some nice fresh fish. If you are coming here looking for a gourmet 5 star meal turn around and keep walking. You won’t find it here.

We went there today for thanksgiving day buffet. When you enter the hotel they had live music playing and hot apple cider next to the fireplace. They had an omelet station, turkey, prime rib and salmon with a bunch of side dishes(mashed buttermilk potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, rice, veg, pasta w mushrooms) plus a salad bar w peel and eat shrimp and salmon. The dessert station was plentiful w cakes, pastries and pies. Plus chocolate covered strawberries and an ice cream Sunday bar for $ 50 pp + 20% gratuity. One of the chefs was walking around talking to the guests. It’s was a beautiful setup., The waitstaff was attentive and ambience was perfect with the snow flurries outside. I def recommend it if you don’t mind spending a few extra dollars to not have to shop, cook or clean up ;)

I’m surprised only one other review for the Atrium! Is it the best food in the world? No, but everything is fresh and decent enough. We went to the Saturday dinner buffet. There’s a live band with dancing every Saturday night. The band was actually first rate. The food at the buffet was hit and miss. The cheese bar was tasty, but the the cheese was run, of the mill stuff. Basically the same brands available at stop and shop. They left the packaging on, I guess so people would be impressed. I kind of think the effect was opposite. The salad bar was clean, everything fresh. The beets were especially nice. They also had a choice of two soups. I tried the roasted vegetable soup. It was okay, but really not special. The entrée buffet had minimal choice for this price range. A lamb shank that I believe if served on its own off a menu might be nice, but kind of looked sad at the buffet. The fish was tasty but dry. Brussels sprouts were very nice and the mashed potatoes first rate. Carving board had tasty tenderloin and pork roast. Pasta bar also had delicious items. No complaints with the dessert bar. All good. Staff were all nice, professional and very amiable. Lastly, I would strongly suggest that doral consider updating the interior. I don’t think it’s been touched in 15 years. Looking very dated, tired and certainly falling behind their local competitors.

It was Mothers Day. I made reservations three weeks in advance. I was told on the phone that the first seating for the Atrium was filled and I would have to eat in a secondary room. I said absolutely not. She then told me that there was seating at 2PM in the Arium. I said that would be fine. I arrived at 1:55PM for a 2:00PM seating. We had 6 in our party. There was an enormous line waiting to get into the Atrium. I went up to the front of the line just to see what the delay was. There was a hostess at a small computer screen asking each person for their name and giving them their table number. After 30 minutes, I finally reached the front of the line. I gave her my last name and she gave me the table number. A young lady escorted us to our table. It was in a small room adjacent to the Atrium. Exactly what I didn’t want. I purposely went for a later seating to avoid this. I returned to the hostess at the computer. She said that there was no seating in the atrium. As people slipped her folded bills which she promptly put in her pocket, I realized that was the only way to get a table. I folded a ten dollar bill and placed it in her hand. Amazingly, a table opened up. How sad. At 52 dollars per person and a 20% gratuity I have to resort to this to get a table. I will not mention her name, however it is something that management has to look into. I have been to the brunch twice. The food was okay for a buffet but the pastry was fantastic. Kudos to the pastry chef. Each pastry sample was better the the next. If the meal consisted of desert alone, this review would be 5 stars. If I were looking for a brunch for a special occasion, I would look elsewhere.

This is hotel buffet food designed to feed the hoard of conference attendees in a setting that is a glorified cafeteria. Based on the separation of sauces and stiff dryness of the proteins, some items appear reheated from the prior day. Only come here if you’re stuck at the Doral Arrowwood and don’t want to spring for a cab to find something interesting. I make better food than this at home — which is where I wish I was.

Pricey, but good buffet. The highlight was the live entertainment. The Tony T Orchestra! Second runner up was the Omaha Beef Tenderloin. They also had good Chilean Sea Bass, Clams, Diver Sea Scallops and Ahi Tuna. Dessert bar was so/so, but I got the sweet house-made Pumpkin Ravioli and had that with my coffee. Perfect…

For a Sunday brunch it makes for a nice atmosphere and scenery. Except for the times when you actually want to go to brunch– i.e. Easter and Mother’s Day. Just checked on the prices for Mother’s Day Brunch for this year and… are they KIDDING? $ 50 per person, not including tax and gratuity. That has to be the most expensive brunch in the area. There are one or two fine dining establishments in nearby White Plains(like 42 at the Ritz Carlton) that are charging half that price for less crowds and much better food. The Doral holiday brunches are getting worse every year. They’re a mad house. Expect to wait in huge lines and navigate your way through hundreds of people. The food is ample, but not great. And not worth the price. Also expect, for the $ 50+ per, you’ll be seated at a folding table in a conference room way down the hall from the actual Atrium, and have to fight every foraging Westchesterite for the last piece of prime rib as you walk 100 yards each way with your plate. No thanks. Been there. Done that. At too much expense.
