My husband and I have always been huge fans of Chevy’s. A tradition of ours when we visit Vallejo and Six Flags is to eat at Chevy’s… Which is why I’m so happy this location in Tahoe is still standing! On a recent day trip to the lake for Geocaching, morning faded into afternoon and we were hungry! We began driving further into town when my husband says, «Hey that’s right! There’s a Chevy’s here!» I said, «Fajitas»… That’s all it took! We immediately pulled off the road and into the lot. Parking is a breeze with the big parking lot they have! We were sat in the bar next to the window, and I just felt right at home. There’s something about Chevy’s that just really makes us feel laid back and relaxed. The bartender brought us menus even though we totally knew what we wanted… Flautas and Fajitas with a TON of that corn cake stuff. He mentioned the smaller lunch portions which sounded exactly right… And they were! I’m used to the dinner fajitas which I usually have leftovers… The lunch portion was perfect, I was able to finish my meal with nothing left. We drive back to Reno so the food wouldn’t have made it, so I’m glad the portion was a perfect size. The food is always fantastic. These are still the best fajitas, my favorite at least. I think we will be making the drive to Tahoe more often just to visit Chevy’s… Orrrr… They could open one back up in Reno!!!

Wanted to enjoy chips and salsa and a Margarita on our way back to the hotel. As we were walking in a family was walking out very upset saying how dirty it was inside. We walked in and the hostess said she had to see if there were tables available. The place was empty except the bar which ideally is where we would have sat ourselves. We waited awhile and what seemed to be the manager came up asking if we had been helped. Told him the waitress went to see if there was a table available but had been gone awhile and that It seemed as though there were many tables. He then replied with attitude saying that everyone was going on a break and that the hostess would be back and he walked away. The place was very outdated which is OK but so very dirty. We had to step over napkins and lime slices as we finally walked to a table. The floor was full of other food debris also. Remember the place is empty with workers standing around .We sat down at a very sticky table. As we looked around the waiter area behind us had food all over it in addition to a large container of salsa that was leaning and salsa coming out if it into what I’m guessing was the ice container they set it in? The salsa was not covered. We sat there in disbelief at how dirty it was everywhere as two waitresses were right behind us chatting and Noone ever came to our table. We decided to leave. We have been to this Chevys before and did not have an experience like this so we let the hostess know why we were leaving. She responded with a shoulder shrug and an «ok» and just kept doing this until we finally turned and left. Very disappointed

The food was good but the service sucked. The waitress forgot our chips and salsa. When we asked about it she gave us attitude. The carnitas and the shrimp were good. We also ordered the fresh mex sampler. It was pretty good but there was barely any guacamole.

What a ripoff! I ordered these two beef tacos. $ 12.50. I asked for no cabbage. Did not want to pay that much for a couple of cabbage tacos. Check out the picture of what I got. The menu should definitely list them as cabbage tacos with a hint of meat. They come with an «avocado» salad. Again, check my photos. This was a tomato and corn salad. I could hardly find the couple of tiny chunks of avocado in them. Thieves! That is what they are. Thieves and liars. If there were truth in advertising, the menu would describe this as two cabbage tacos with a hint of meat at the bottom, and a small tomato and corn salad, that might have a couple of tiny pieces of avocado in it. Fool me once…

Customer service is great minus the fact that when you walk in theres almost never someone greeting you at the door. You just have to stand there and waot for someone to pass by and notice you. The nachos grande is really good. The 3 cheese appetizer is HORRIBLE, i let it go to waste and didn’t even touch it. The cheese enchiladas were so so and that little corn mix they put on the side of every plate is AMAZING. Average restaurant.

I usually like Chevys but this location has terrible service and horrible food. Our waitress was REALLY annoyed. And I get it because I have worked in a restaurant before, but there is no reason that a paying customer should be treated rudely at any restaurant.

We had a great time at Chevys tonight. We got seated right away. Chips and salsa were brought out right away. I had a Cobb Salad that was absolutely delicious as normal. My husband had trio chili relleno, enchilada, and a taco. He enjoyed his meal. We shared the deep fried ice cream. The waitress was kind and energetic.

The manager saved our meal. That’s the story here. It’s a rainy Tahoe morning right after 11 am and were thinking, a Chevy’s is a Chevy’s no matter where you go. Let’s get some Americanized Mexican food! We were the first people in the restaurant. The hipster/easy listening soft rock music wasn’t even playing yet. The first thing we noticed was there wasn’t a booth in sight. The place was filled with uncomfortable wood chairs with a red, purple and green theme throughout. There was a huge bar, which you would expect in Tahoe. I think I saw a bathroom with a bar on the main drag, but don’t quote me on that. We were seated in the back next to a window. A window with peeling paint and dust. I ordered the two enchilada lunch and my wife ordered the super cinco. A coffee for me and a coke for her while we waited. The coffee was nice and strong, and the cream was cold. Her coke was fresh. If you’re wondering what a «fresh» coke is, you’ve never had one in a place where they don’t clean out the lines and you get the one with the dislodged bit of mildew in yours. It matters. Our food arrived quickly, to be expected with us being the only ones in the place. Unfortunately it was lukewarm. The cheese was sweating but not completely melted on both our meals. The chicken inside wasn’t hot either. We started eating it anyway because we were hungry, but as soon as the waiter came back we showed him. He took her plate and said he would fix it. A few minutes later the manager came over and took my plate too, and said he was replacing both meals. By this time there were several tables occupied, but it was only a few minutes before our new plates came out. What a difference! The cheese was stringy and the inside of the food was piping hot. Unfortunately we were pretty full by that time. It takes approximately 8 minutes for your mind to catch up with your stomach. I learned that from a hot dog eating competition commentator. We tipped the minimum 10 percent and thanked the manager. I would not return to this Chevy’s.

When I walked into this place I barely seen anyone in the restaurant or bar. The employees were nice, drinks were good, but the service was very slow. I don’t think it’s the staffs fault, they just need more employees to better care for their customers.

The food was BAD! Seriously, I don’t understand how this place can claim itself a «Mexican» restaurant. Ew. We even sent back one of the dishes, I would have sent it all back personally. The man who sat us was friendly and nice even though he was slammed and the waiter was efficient and did a good job so I can’t fault them for the food. But that’s the only positive thing I can say.

Nothing about this restaurant is fresh. They need to take the«Fresh Mex» out of the restaurant name. The building is old, dirty, and smells bad. The service is really REALLY slow. I ordered the fajita nachos which was about 10 tortilla chips topped with canned refried beans, frozen cubed chicken, and lukewarm cheese. The nachos tasted like they had been sitting out for 20 minutes and none of the ingredients were«fresh.» My friend got the fish tacos which were two tortillas with a frozen fish stick on each. She also got a margarita that was bad. «How can you mess up a margarita» you might say. They managed to do so. Our bill was $ 40 and it was $ 40 wasted. Save your time and money and do NOT come here.

This place is not even worth one star! Absoulty horrible service. Ordered a bloody Mary and asked to have a double shot. They charged me for the bloody Mary and a double shot which Made my drink $ 17. Also it was my son’s birthday they sang him happy birthday and charged me for the little ice cream they brought him. I would never ever recommend this Chevys to anyone! Turn around and go someplace else.

I was skeptical of eating here, we went to 3 other places that had 1 – 1.5 hour wait. Went in here and there was only one other couple in the hole place. Service was kinda slow and took a while to get our food but when it got there it was good and a lot of it! Over all it was good not great. We would go back.

Sat at the bar to watch a game and had to wait 10 – 15 minutes for service and then another 25 minutes till they changed the channel to the basketball game that was the only reason we came. Every time we asked the bartender to change one of the three tvs they kept saying«in a few minutes I have to make some drinks,» then they would proceed to run laps around the bar. At least the strawberry margaritas were good, but other than that there was horrible service and I’m pretty sure our bartender was drunk.

I tried the Chevy’s Super Cinco(Two enchiladas: one beef, one chicken, a crispy or soft beef taco, a hand-rolled pork tamale). The enchiladas were small but tasty. The platter overall was more than I could eat in 1 sitting. It came with fried chile relleno that was too greasy. I also had a small side of guacamole(Hass avocados, diced jalapeños, pico de gallo, topped with fresh lime juice and cotija cheese) that was way smaller than I expected it to be. Service was slow when I entered. The hostess wasn’t @ the front stand & it took her 5 – 10 minutes to get to the front because she was running around doing a bunch of other stuff. I like the thin tortilla chips they give you for free with salsa. I shared a giant margarita that came with a mini corona. It was really tasty & not too sweet. This place was really crowded the day I came because it was a holiday.

Sometime you just need to get that chips and salsa fix and Chevys in south Lake Tahoe is a nice spot to get it. To start we went on week day and it wasn’t busy so they sat us very quickly. We had a few friends with us so we sat at the larger booth by the kitchen. Seats are defiantly worn out and could be replaced. The previous Unilocal reviews are pretty accurate on how it is older and run down. So if I had to give a star rating for the actual restaurant it would be a 2 star. Don’t let that scare you away. The food makes up for it! I am a huge fan of there chips and salsa. It’s a nice blend and the chips are warm just the way I like it! The home run plate for me to start is the flautes which are awesome! Then for the main course the mesquite chicken and steak. Highly recommend this combo! Also the rice is super moist and flavorful! That’s there saving grace is killer rice! The food is what’s giving this place a 4 star. Our waitress Mary was nice and friendly. When she would get busy the other waitress would help her out. Glad they worked as a team! My glass was always full and we felt welcomed. So over all if I averaged the stars it would be 3.5 stars. Since the food and service is good so I’m going to rounded it up and give them 4stars which I think is very deserving. Next time your visiting Tahoe and need that chips and salsa fix stop by Chevys you won’t be disappointed!

I should have turned around and left before we got seated. It’s an old filthy building and just stunk. But I thought maybe it’s just the entry way, after all, its a Chevy’s. The wait staff’s clothes were dirty but nothing compared to the cook. Yuck! It looked like he’d been wearing the same apron for a month. The table was sticky and the food floated in grease. After our waiter served us he walked over to a tortilla machine and flipped them without washing his hands or wearing gloves. I hope I don’t get food poisoning. Save yourselves by going somewhere else.

When I was in high school, Chevys was my favorite restaurant. Unfortunately, all of the Chevys near my house have closed down. Whenever we go on a family trip, if theres a Chevys near us then we try to go! This Chevys was on par with just about all of the ones I’ve been to. The salsa was just as perfect as I remembered. The menu had a few changes(for the better) since the last time I had seen it. My sister and I split the appetizer sampler which has chicken wings, chicken quesadillas, chicken nachos, and chicken flatuas. Good thing we like chicken! Ive always loved the bbq wings and the flautas with that pepper jelly are so delicious. My mom ordered guacamole which was made at our table and tasted pretty good. Overall it was a great experience!
