This is our favorite pizza in the area. We’re especially big fans of the Hawaiian. Never had a bad meal from here. It has become our go to place for a quick meal.

This little nook looks like it has not been touched in 40 years, maybe longer. They have a huge print of the Acropolis on one wall, and all the deep blues of the Greek heaven have faded down to white. On the other wall, a vast aerial photo of lower Manhattan, with the Twin Towers just recently constructed. The latter served as the focal point of our conversation as we sat in the Indian summer Sunday sun and munched on an enormous cheese za. I told the story of 9⁄11 to my kids in the safety of this very clean, very small, very warm pie factory tucked behind the street from its better-known neighbors, Rapid Rays and Saco House of Pizza. My kids placed the pie as about equal with Saco HoP or Alex’s or Louis’ across the rivah, but a far cry from the awesomeness of Owens in KBunk or 900 degrees down in NH or Micucci’s up in Portland ME. That means, nothing special. So two stars. But they give it an extra star for being so sunny and comfy and quiet. We all wanted to stay longer and take a catnap, and since the place was completely empty, that is what we did. What woke us up, an honest-to-God rotary phone. It was the first time my kids had ever seen or heard one, holy smokes!

I don’t order pizza often, but Michael’s has always been good. They only offer pizza, sandwiches, and drinks, so they don’t offer too many things to devote attention to. I haven’t tried the sandwiches, but I bet they’re good. Toppings are always plentiful, and the pizza is cooked nicely.

Michael’s Pizza is a solid 3.5. The cheese and sauce are good but I don’t like the crust. It’s like they use bread dough and it never gets crispy around the edges. We tried the pepperoni and the spinach and the toppings are nothing special. I like it better than TJ’s and the Union House Pizza Pub, but the Saco House of Pizza and Loui’s are better. We got the pizza to go so I can’t comment on the atmosphere inside.
