I want to give this place like 2.5 stars, but I’ll round it up to 3 because the service was quite good. Came here for a quick lunch on a workday, and since this place is within walking distance from the office, I thought I’d give it a try. The place wasn’t very busy so it was quite easy to get a table. I was greeted promptly and able to order right away, which was great since I only had a limited time to eat. I got hot tea, which is pretty standard at any Chinese place(although this one tasted a little different from most) and a lunch combo which was very reasonably priced for the amount of food. It comes with soup, foil wrapped chicken, and an entrée with a side(I chose broccoli beef and chow mein). The soup honestly looked quite unappealing, but it was actually relatively edible. The foil wrapped chicken was decent. The broccoli beef and chow mein… there was a lot of it, and it was edible… but honestly also looked kinda sad on the plate. The server was super nice and attentive, and the food was edible that day, but I haven’t brought myself to eat the leftovers and likely won’t return anytime soon.

I saw the ratings on Unilocal and thought it’s good. I ordered chicken in black bean and asked them for my chicken to be well done… It wasn’t done properly. Wish I didn’t order from here at the first place. Won’t be going back!

Been frequenting here for over a decade. Takes about 10 minutes for a combination plate(the time it takes me to drive there after ordering). I usually skip the soup of the day. Great staff. Huge portions for the price. Tastes great to me. Personally never had a miss with any plates. BBQ Pork Chow Mien party tray, extra spicy, is a frequent for me.

Ok Chinese food. Nothing to write home about. The give huge portions. I tend to get the chicken Katsu over fried rice. The prices are cheap, the portions are right so I keep coming back.

This is a solid chinese food place. Big portions of good chinese food. They make it fast and good. Hunan chicken, which is similar to general chicken is crispy chicken in a tasty sauce, nicely garnished with green onions. Good wonton soup and they are generous with the won tons. Pot stickers were frozen and not as good as fresh made, but for 3 bucks. It is the perfect side. Great customer service, Peter is the guy behind the counter and he will make anything you tell him.(Extra wontons anyone?) If you ever find yourself looking for a surprisingly good chinese food that will have leftovers for a low price… Give them a try…

We had the family meal. It was pretty cheap and the portions were huge! And it was really good too. The service was very fast and the employees were really nice. I’m not in this area often but if I am I will definitely come back.

A Taste of the Orient is located very near by the Pep boys and the dollar tree which makes it a convenient and easily accessible location to grab a bite while your car is in the shop. While there are some great elements if the location, namely the staff and time in which your meal is ready, as well as the food selection and combination of food. However the quality is very moderate – very in the middle – very standard. Now, that being said, the food isn’t bad or unpalatable by any means my expectations might be a bit too high for a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant.

Not super fancy but super yummy. The rice and chow mein was a little greasy but sweet and sour pork, fried rice, hot sour soup, teriyaki chicken and chow mein was delivered super fast and by super friendly staff.

I love this place. My mom used to work close by so she introduced the family to this Chinese restaurant. We loved how they knew my mom even when we came in without her. They give large portions and great service and the food is great even for it’s cheap lunch specials and rice plates. Whenever I’m in town I’d definitely come again!!!

The food tastes really good; authentic. But, I would want more variety and more inherit design for the place, to give a feel that you’re at a Chinese restaurant.

very friendly owner. Offered some great explanation of his menu and how food is prepared. Pot stickers we kind of small as compared to other restaurants but good Szechuan chicken was ok. Chicken was not very tasty but veggies and sauce were good. I will give it another try. I think this place has real potential on some of their other items.

The food comes out at lightning speed, but lack depth of flavors. Everything just tastes okay.

Man I love this place. I found it purely by accident one night when finding myself stuck in some ugly ugly I-80 traffic. Thank goodness for Unilocal and thank goodness for my iPhone GPS! At first glance, it’s nothing special and next to a charming little liquor store. Nice. Get your 40 of King Cobra AND Kung Pao Chicken all at once! Kidding. The great thing about this place is the super friendly service and the decent food at the great prices. I walked in and was immediately greeted by two people behind the counter. I appreciated the photo descriptions for those us not familiar with what Mongolian Beef looked like. I went for the old childhood favorite of shrimp in black bean sauce and sat down with a magazine and a giant cup of tea. Less than 10 minutes later, a server drops off a giant plate of food with a huge smile and I’m in heaven. The shrimps were cooked perfectly, the green bell pepper was soft, the sauce(which is the most important part) was thick, not too salty and had a great bite to it thanks to the black beans. Oh, why must I love bad Chinese food in a sketchy neighborhood so much? I’ll never know.

I LOVETHISPLACE. I usually get my food to go because the decore is meh and the location is borderline ghetto… but totally worth the drive to get some very tasty food. I have been eating at TOTO since they opened soooooo many years ago when my mother was a manager of the KMart that used to be at the corner of Northgate and San Juan Rd. Now I live in Denver and only get my fix when I am back in SAC visiting. Their fried rices and chow meins are so very flavorful when many places are dry and bland. 2 combo plates would feed our family of 4 with leftovers. The Broccoli Beef is consistantly tender, the sweet & sour chicken is tangy, I also love the foil wrapped chicken and fried prawns. Can’t wait to go back.
