Sat at the bar with my buddy, and Matt T was one of the best servers I’ve ever had. He suggested some of the best bourbon and wines I’ve had, and I know my booze. Great guy too, but make sure you talk into his right ear. Makes things much easier…

I’ve been here a few times already and each time I’ve come in, I’ve left fully satisfied. More recently, I came during happy hour on a Friday. The bartender(our receipt said his name was Ben M.) was dope to talk to and made the most delicious drinks! My first round was a called«Guy on a Buffalo» and the second was a «Mr. Big». Both drinks, while very different from each other, were very fruit forward but had that extra kick of bourbon on the backend — perfect for a warm day and start to my weekend! We also order the Spain charcuterie board that came with a gang of different cured meats and cheeses of all different flavor profiles served with an abundance of pickled veggies and jams. It was soooo good and totally filling. We kept asking for more bread to slather all the yummy stuff on it. Service was exceptional. Ben was super attentive to each of the patrons and their needs. While it did take a bit of time to get our drinks, it was merely because each drink was made with love and special attention– truly making each drink a quality craft cocktail. I’m so happy that Sacramento has this gem in its midsts and will continue to come for the great drinks, food, and service.

HALFOFFBOTTLESOFWINEONSUNDAYS! My partner and I came here last Sunday. We got the prosciutto and soppressata with a goat cheese and point Reyes blue cheese. It was more than enough for two people and our bill, with a bottle of wine, was only about $ 28. The staff is super friendly!

Like Low Brau, this place is overhyped, expensive, and crowded. The service is subpar. Good luck determining which employees are bar backs and which ones are bartenders. If you do manage to get the bartender’s attention, he will almost certainly act as if he’s doing you a favor by getting you a drink. The cocktails are mostly fine I guess, but they are often on the small side. During our most recent outing, I actually got chewed out when I asked for a water(which took about 5 seconds to make). We have been here about 8 – 10 times. Our experience has varied from terrible to somewhat enjoyable. At this point, we have no reason to go back. Sacramento has much better offerings than Block. Go to Grange or Red Rabbit for cocktails. Either location has service that far exceeds Block. If you want whiskey, Porch has a phenomenal offering. They aren’t pretentious either. For too long, Low Brau/Block has been the«it» bar in Sacramento. Surely that will change in the next year when Golden One Center opens. Bar hoppers will have many more options and will think twice about Low Brau/Block. And rightfully so.

We got a couple of wines here and they were really nice! It was perfect to be able to take them outside and sit at a bench. Next time I’d like to try some food.

High end spirits can be found here. The service is great and good to boot. Parking in this area can be a bitch so bring your patience. It’s well worth it

Who was the genius that thought of this place? Having worked at a deli, cold cuts just make my mouth water. A friend introduced us and though it was a Thursday night, we had a 20 minute wait but don’t fret, just head next door and grab a drink or 2 while you wait. As there were 4 of us, we had a cozy booth and our friend taught us how to order — you just tick as many items as you’d like and the prices are all labeled clearly. I ordered 4 meats and 4 cheeses but really 3 of each would have been more than enough for me as we all shared a toastie as well. It’s great, everyone gets to order their own platter with cold cuts and cheese and the chefs pair it with jams, olives and more goodies. The staff are friendly and helpful as a lot of the meats and cheese were new to us. All 4 of us were very happy with the selections and the platters were quite massive and overall we spent an average of $ 23 for a platter and drink which worked out perfectly. If you love meat, cheese and bread then this is the place for you!

Block is as cold as a meat locker! Bring a jacket! So drink service was a bit slow but still good. Our waitress even went next door to grab some of the rum my companion wanted, that was nice. I had the tortoise creek Chardonnay which was delicious– buttery and oaky for $ 7/glass. The rum had one giant super cool ice cube in it, nice touch. Initially we ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, seems like a good bet. There was something wrong with this sandwich. I tasted burnt cigarettes and smoke, it was a very weird smell and taste. We realized it was a problem with the onions. When we informed the waitress she was very accommodating. She had the chefs check out our sandwich in the kitchen. She said they had tried a new method of browning the onions using one of those torch guns– yeah that’s what they’re called. I actually really appreciated the chefs trying out a new technique– albeit it was not successful. I admire them thinking outside the box. No chef ever became great without making a few mistakes along the way. Bravo As a replacement sandwich we ordered the ham and cheese sandwich(grilled) — it was delish and was served with a fresh kale side salad. While we waited for this sandwich we were treated to a round of drinks on the house. I will be coming back again soon to check out the happy hour!

HH review. Excellent selection of foods and beverage. For me it’s the perfect HH destination. For the most part it’s knocking a couple bucks off the listed snacks and some of the mixed drinks. These snacks cover a solid array including spiced chicharones, mixed nuts an olives, pickled vegetables(with pickled quail egg), deviled egg toast, pork meatballs, a seasonal rillette. These items do shuffle on and off the menu but all are solid bites. They also feature a featured board with select charcuterie and artisanal cheeses. Accoutrements include honey comb, nuts, olives, preserves, cornichons etc. makes for a very nice sampler for two. That covers the foods from my experience. I can’t wait to try even more in the future. The cocktails are ever evolving with some solid regulars. A particular favorite for me is The Guy on a Buffalo featuring Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Ginger, Lemon, Peach-Cardamom Preserves, Angostura Bitters. If you’re a fan of Scotch, American or Irish whiskies this is a great place to check out. The old Potrero is highly recommended. The beer selection is smoke but this really isn’t a beer destination. Wine selection is also amole. House made cured meats, snacks, cocktails, spirits and artisanal cheese is where this place shines. A slight negative comment to note From a recent second Saturday as some of the loud and overly boisterous the crowd from next door spilt over. It’s bound to happen, but the foul mouthed yelling should have been put in check. All things considered a complete gem for happy hour that can easily blossom to a satisfactory light dinner with top notch beverages. This will be a regular stop going forward. Happy hour is currently a 7 days a week offering. Big bonus for that!

Cheese and meat board: 3.5 stars. Rating this because my friends and I chose the option to pick whatever cheese and meat you want and we didn’t know much so it was partly our fault. I kind of wish the waitress gave us input on what would go well together instead of just telling us that our choices were good. The best part was the honey and I think apricot that came on the board with chorizo. I also like that the bread they serve is soft and not toasted. I don’t know the names of everything we got but we got 2 types of cow cheeses and 1 sheep and 2 types of chorizo anddddd I think a salami. Deviled eggs toast: 3 stars. The portion was HUGE! The bacon or maybe prosciutto that it was topped with was good. Everything was visually appealing but the overall dish was kind of bland. Spicy chicharrones: 1 star. Not spicy at all! Literally tasted like they rolled it in sugar because it was so sweet. Service: 4.5 stars. Very quick and friendly! Knocking off half a star though because she forgot who ordered what drinks and as she placed them on the table she literally said«yeah I don’t know I literally don’t remember anything haha.» Not sure if I will return.

Loveddddd this place! Came here last night with a girlfriend and she had some drinks, we shared the grilled cheese sandwich, and we ordered the French cheese board. The cheeses on that board were delicious. They also provide honeycomb and apricot jam. I’m not a fan of apricot jam much but I loved the honeycomb. There was also salami and pâté with some picked stuff. My friend ate all the picked stuff since they’re not my thing but the pâté was rich. The salami and ham could have been more thinly cut but other than that it’s meat. Who doesn’t love meat. Also beware, they charge if you ask for more than two crostini bread bowls, which was fine because there was so much on the board to eat!!! Loved our waiter and the atmosphere. Perfect dinner date. P. S. I usually hate salads, but I loved their arugula mix with its sweet tart taste.

Went here on a rainy Friday night to celebrate my new job. When we got there the hostess said the only seat they had was at the bar, which was NOT what I wanted but because I really wanted to eat I said ok. This was my 2nd visit but 1st time ordering so it was a little scary at first but the bar tender was also very, very knowledgable about the menu as well. We ended up get two of the set charcuterie boards, the deviled toast, and a Shirley temple for me! Deviled toast was amazing, don’t bother trying to use fork and knives for this one. It was so creamy and rich… I was so glad I ordered this one because it had 4 servings and it was just the 2 of us. Haha We then got our charcuterie boards and boy was it amazing. The meats were on point and the cheese all were a very nice compliment. Plus unlimited bread! The bread was good. Along with the meat and cheeses there was like honey, nuts, and these AMAZINGLY pickled veggies which also complimented the meats and cheeses as well. Shirley Temple. Sprite and some grenadine right? Wrong. The way the bar tender made it was lime and lemon water, carbonated water, and some cherry extract. In fact I noticed the bar tender did not have any cans or dispenser of sodas. It was all carbonated water and extract of some sorts, pretty cool. All in all this is a good place to eat kinda pricey but Fck it, I was celebrating haha

I enjoyed my visit here. This place is small and dark which I’m a fan of. This place screams hipster so you know quality is going to be coming out of the kitchen. All of the items we selected were beyond delicious. My only gripe is the portions for what they charge. On my board a couple of items that stood out was the honey, chorizo, and one of the goat cheeses(I forgot the particular name).

I’m hesitant to write a review because still not too many people know about this place, but they deserve it. Most of us know about the Lowbrau group but next door is a little place doing amazing things with cocktails. Outside of San Francisco, Sacramento is hard pressed to find an intimate space where professionals can go to find a quality craft cocktail. With knowledgeable bartenders, a rotating menu, and great atmosphere, this place is my go to place for a relaxed night. Tell the bartenders your liquor of choice and mood and just let them do their magic. Sit back and enjoy. BTW, they also have fantastic charcuterie and fromage, or you can order from Lowbrau as well.

I wish I had tried this place sooner! After drooling over their Instagram and Unilocal photos for over a year, we FINALLY made it there for dinner. We went mid-week, around 5:15ish. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. It is much smaller inside than I thought it would be, but they make good use of the space and have a great atmosphere. We were seated in the booth closest to the pig heads(you know what I’m talking about) in the butcher room. I was curious about what goes on in that room, but no employees were in there while we were there. We ordered a drink each from their varied and decent menu, and then split the $ 16 happy hour three cheese/three meat/accoutrements plate and a prosciutto Panini with romesco sauce. The food was not only delicious and filling, but also just damn gorgeous. Everything was plated beautifully and arranged thoughtfully. The portions were much more generous than expected, and we weren’t even able to fully finish our half-sandwich each and our cheese and meat board. Honestly the sandwich and side of mixed greens salad it came with would have been plenty of food, but we would feel like suckers if we went to Block Butcher and didn’t get a cheese and meat board. NOREGRETS. Service was friendly and attentive the entire time. We will definitely be back and can’t wait to try some cocktails. Due to the very hip and busy location, I probably wouldn’t come here on a weekend, but that is just my assumption.

So hipster, so urban, yet so cool. After returning back to visit Sacramento again after a few years, I didn’t expect midtown to look like Portland and Block Butcher Bar definitely leads the pack of artisan bars/diners. Dinner here is simple and complicated. Simple in that you get cured meats, cheese, and good cocktails. Complicated in that there are so many varieties of meats, cheese, and specialty cocktails. Came here on a Saturday night with 8 people and we were seated promptly. Between the 8 of us, we shared two salads and two butcher blocks consisting of France varieties and the house varieties. You’d think that this wouldn’t be enough between 8 people, but this place does it like a European palette where quality matters over quantity. Had just enough to please are discerning palettes. We topped it off with variety of cocktails and I enjoyed the Rattle Snake consisting of rye, absinthe, and other hipster ingredients I can’t remember. Wouldn’t be surprised if they came up with some cocktail that consist of sriracha sauce.

I could have sworn I reviewed this place a long time ago but maybe that was on Facebook. I LOVEBLOCKBUTCHERBAR!!! I have been in love since my first visit, despite the fact that it was the middle of the summer and their AC was broken. I almost walked out because of the heat but I am very glad I didn’t because it was AMAZING! I cant review each meat and cheese individually as there are so many and they are ever changing. But I say go big or go home! We always order the 12 meat plate and they always question us but we always devour the entire thing. Our first few times we let the server choose what meats because we didn’t know what most of them were. They’re all super scrumptious and I especially love the Lardo. The same goes for the cheeses… I think we’ve only had one cheese we didn’t like and it tasted like a cross between stinky feet and rotten eggs lol. But every other cheese has been delicious! The drinks… They are the best!!! I love that they’re all made from real ingredients that are in season so despite it being an alcoholic beverage it is not horrible for you and packed with sugar crap. The drinks are so good and unlike anything you can get anywhere else. I personally LOVE the«Guy on a Buffalo.» Plus the names are fun as well.

Charcuterie is the best thing that has ever been invented in this world. Cheese and meat – what more do you want? Block Butcher Bar is the best spot in town to get a charcuterie plate. You can pick and choose 3, 6, or 9 meat and cheese options to create your board and the accompaniments include pickled veggies made in house, honey, fresh mustard, and the best little cubes of quince jam. I forget what it’s called but it looks like poke when it comes out on the cheese plate. I don’t know if I was just carb deprived, but the bread that was served with the boards was perfectly crunchy, lightly oiled and grilled. All of the offerings tasted so good together I definitely ate everything in sight. This hidden gem is located right next to LowBrau and is tiny with very limited seating. The star of the whole show is the bartender, Ian. The cocktails he creates are so unique and absolutely delicious. The Phở-King Delicious is the best cocktail I’ve ever had in my entire life and has the true aroma of a bowl of phở with a light citrusy finish on the palette. That is a must-try item on the cocktail list!
