Can’t believe I’ve been missing out on this for so long. The vegan mint chocolate chip ice cream tastes like I remember from childhood! They have at least six vegan flavors and two vegan cones… Not to mention vegan BONBONS! Definitely a hidden gem. (Edit: So sad to hear this place closed! If they open a new location, I’ll be their first customer!)

Nice independently owned icecream shop. Not very pretty on the eyes, but they serve Guenther’s ice cream, and their scoops are huge! Definitely more ice cream for the price than at Guenther’s — how do that do that? The black cherry chip ice cream is my favorite.

Yum! This used to be my favorite place to come get ice cream, since it serves Gunther’s Ice Cream but is much closer. I say used to because it seems they have closed down :( What a sad day indeed.

I thought I saw Rufio from«Hook» here and got really excited. But at second glance, this Rufio was just a woman with a bad haircut. Also, I started chanting«RUFIO» and my date looked at me like I was an idiot. She’s an idiot.

I will definitely come back and support«Heres The Scoop»… 1) because the food and ice cream are SO yummy, and 2) the service is fabulous! A co-worker and I decided to go at lunch to use a Groupon voucher and mind you, there was only ONE gentleman, Ron, working at the time! I had read the reviews so I half expected the one or two person show. I seriouly thought at any moment he was going to rip open his shirt only to display a super gigantic S on his chest! HEWASSUPERMAN!!! He provided the best service I’ve seen in LONG time! VERY polite, very pleasant disposition under VERY busy circumstance, and wonderful personality. We saw Ron interact with another family who had a full order and special request. He spoke to them like«family» and VERY respectful! Never acted like he was bothered. So if you go there, you might expect to wait a bit, but you know what they say«It’s worth the wait» AND«Patience is a virtue!» Please go there with a great attitude, because that’s what they’re serving up to their LOYAL customers. Keep it up «Here’s the Scoop» and may you continue to do well in your business!!!

The lactose-intolerant — unite! Vegetable friendly fans — applaud! All your sweet and cold needs will be met, as well who are fans of the MOOOOOOOOOOO. The soy cherry chocolate chip tastes just like Cherry Garcia. My honey likes all flavors he’s sampled. They were polite and cheery with my Groupon. And they have extended hours? You scream, we scream, we all scream for ice(soy milk) cream!

This place had me on a emotional roller coaster… Upon walking in, you notice right away this is def a mom and pop shop. So supporting them seems like a neighborly thing to do. After three hours at the Sacramento Zoo in random April heat we were ready to cool down. Ordering is a mess, but please take note that you have to go up to the gentleman(the Dad) and place your order with him. The daughter(??) seems to not be allowed to take orders or receive money. Limited menu. No grilled cheese for such a simple menu, I thought that was odd. Ordered a hot dog for the love bug, cheese burger meal for myself, burger for Mama Bear, and a turkey sando for Pops. Pops sando came out super quick, less than 10 minutes. However, our BBQ’d food was a whole different story. Honestly, it was about a 30 minute wait, NOJOKE! We were seriously getting annoyed… this two person operation was not operating efficiently. You could see the annoyed look in everyone’s faces… there was about 4 separate families in here, which is crowded to say the least. By the time we went got our food, which was sub-par at best, everyone was annoyed beyond belief. It wasn’t bad, it was like a back yard BBQ type of taste. Something anyone could make at home… Pops went up to pay and he comp’d our entire meal, besides the ice cream. I didn’t hear the whole conversation, but he apologized and said that they normally do better. He also gave us a certificate to come back and gave us 4 cheeseburger meals on the house. After being annoyed, almost angry… I then felt sympathy. Just a family trying to run a business, despite being understaffed and having a small shop. I do appreciate his owing up to his issues with service that day and making sure we left happy and that come back again. I did feel bad for being so annoyed, but he turned what could have been a horrible first trip into an okay experience. We will try them again, for sure — we have a Groupon and the comp’d meals… so we’re hoping for the best, next time around! Free stuff is apparently the way to making me a happy customer…

This place is amazing. Their brownie sundae was sooo amazing and I found out that they have chocolate covered cheesecake. The ice cream they have is from Gunther’s– so you know it’s good quality. The server was very nice and welcoming to try all flavors.

Ok so I’ve moved from SF to SAC and have been looking for a great tasting hot dog for over 3 yrs. Finally I’ve found it! Here’s the Scoop’s HOT Dogs are the BEST in town. It’s grilled on a real BBQ grill right outside. Even when we went at night, they still took the time and attention to start up the grill outdoors to cook it. That’s Detail to attention and not skipping on the details. The dog was meaty, juicy., and high quality. The grilling locks the juices inside with nice smokey charred grill marks on the outside. The taste is not bland from boiling the hot dog like some places do. It doesn’t have a rubbery texture like supermarket hot dogs. It’s like eating a sausage on a hearty bun. The buns are not your cheap buns that just dissolves when you bite into it. You get all of the above for $ 1.50 per hot dog! Amazing deal! We had a total of 4 dogs and it was absolutely the BEST. I’ve found my hot dog! Their ice is also delicious! I Recommend!!!

If I hated carmel, absolutely detested it… this would be one star. Great service with a lovely smile and too much carmel. I am not sure what else I could ask for.

Dropped by for a cool treat during the summer, and I have to say I enjoyed my experience here. The price you pay for a scoop of ice cream isn’t expensive and they have a nice diverse variety of different treats(frozen drinks, ice cream, cake, hotdogs…) The service here is really good, they owners are really friendly and provide good customer service. Nothing really stands out as remarkable, but this place does a good job and it’s always nice to help support local businesses– I will be coming back if I’m in the area.

One of the few places in Sacramento to have dairy-free ice cream! I had mint chocolate in a sugar cone and it won my heart. Oh how I’ve missed ice cream!

Gag me. No seriously, how did this place get great reviews when there are places out there like Guther’s and even…*cough cough*…Vic’s. Even Vic’s is better than this place. Yes, they serve Gunther’s Ice Cream, but the experience just isn’t the same I guess. Can’t explain it really… just read on… I mean, sure they offer really great soy ice cream options, that much they have going for them, but everything else, BLAH! Frozen banana… blah…sundaes…too rich and goopy… By the time the guy or gal finishes making your sweet treat, it’s not so sweet anymore. In fact, it’s melted from their slow as molasses attitude. Typical flavors, ehhhhhh… We can do better Unilocalers! Plus, the lady there wipes her nose EVERYTIME I see her. Health issues, no thanks. NOTHANKS! Plus they con you into higher priced items, unappreciated.

Here’s the Scoop completes my confection trifecta — Vic’s, Gunther’s, and HtS. A little bit Gunther’s(they serve Gunther’s ice cream), a little bit A&W(they serve BBQ, hot dogs, etc.), HtS is a friendly, casual local haunt that’s always great for an after dinner treat. Plus, HtS is open until 8:30 p.m., whereas Vic’s closes at 8:00 p.m. So, if you’ve finished dinner at Oscar’s, Dad’s, or Taylor’s Kitchen, and need a quick sugar fix, head on over to Here’s the Scoop. And one more thing — HtS has five(5) flavors of soy ice cream for the lactose intolerant or vegan set(no egg). The chocolate chip is pretty damn good.

My visit to Here’s the Scoop can be summed up into the following categories: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. The Good: The freakin hot dog! Yes, I said hot dog! I’m usually not a lover of meat in a tube, but good God the hot dogs this place serves up are definitely something to make note of. They grill the dogs and the buns, which brings out a certain flavor that isn’t captured in your run of the mill boiled dogs. Seriously, whether you love hot dogs or are just, eh, about hot dogs you have to try these! The Bad: They totally screwed up my husband’s order. He ordered a double cheeseburger, but they gave him a single. Now let’s get one thing straight about my husband – he LOVES his meat! So for him to get a single when he was expecting a double is a big… no, huge deal! The Ugly: Service is soooo slow. I understand the whole small business thing with only one person working, but dude, it’s almost summer time and you own an ice cream shop! Invest a little extra cashola into hiring some help. That way your customers won’t have to wait forever for service and their orders won’t get screwed up. Speaking of waiting forever, the 2 waters we ordered with our food didn’t get to us until after we finished eating. Way to stay on top of things, Here’s the Scoop. In sum, you get 3 stars for the delicious hot dog, serving up Gunther’s ice cream, and the free root beer float from the owner for messing up our order.

Okay I know I was planning of having no more ice cream for a month. I know blasphemy. But after the burger and fries at Squeeze Inn, I was desperate for something sweet. Good thing our local townie, knew about this ice cream place. Lots of flavor selection from your usual cookie dough, mint chip to soy and no sugar flavors, I found it refreshing to see the variety. We all got 1 scoop ice creams which were HUGE probably the same as a small at Fenton’s Creamery in Oakland, CA. The only difference was that this ice cream was half the price! I got the Raspberry Chocolate Chip and it was creamy with plenty of chocolate chips. It hit the spot and gave my burger and stomach the dairy coating it needed. Thanks Here’s the Scoop for a great ending to an awesome day of food eating.

Ice cream and coffee. No, no. They’ve got more than that. A cheddar cheese ¼ burger and a small soda costed me $ 4.50 and it was pretty good. They have«secret sauce.» Ooooh. They also have nachos, sandwiches, hot dogs, eggs, chips. all this on top of Gunther’s ice cream and coffee. I also picked up some bon bons. $ 3.50 for 6 and there’s different flavors among other chocolate dipped things like bananas, cheesecake, etc. Here’s the Scoop! is in a corner strip mall on Freeport with McClatchy High across one way and Oscar’s across the other. There are tables inside and out. The staff is wonderful. And, I saw a binder inside showing that the business is for sale. I hope it stays the same.

My favorite ice cream shop in Sacramento. They’ve been around for a bit, but under a few different names. The owners are now looking to sell the business under some essay contest at . I’m interested to see what happens. I love the oreo ice cream. Peanut butter isn’t too bad. Their swiss orange chocolate is great for ice cream balls covered with chocolate. The guys working there are always friendly. It’s a great place to support.

The staff here is pleasant and very helpful. They were happy to answer all my questions as a first time customer. I ordered an egg salad sandwich when I was last here. It was great! Fresh tasty bread with loads of egg salad, pickles tomato and mustard. Just the way I like it. The egg salad tasted good like they didn’t over cook the eggs. So many places over cook hard boiled eggs so they have a green tint to the outside. It really detracts from the flavor.

Woop Woop for Here’s the Scoop!!! we decided to try this spot out one not on our mission for slushies or sno cones. Osaka-Ya was by far closed and Vic’s i always crowded, and even though it’s just right up the street from our house we decided somewhere else was in tow. I mentioned we should try out Here’s the Scoop located on Freeport Blvd right across the street from McClatchy High School. Game on! They had just was we were hoping for, and even better yet, Slush Puppies! I hadn’t had one of them in ages. Large grape Slush Puppie and a Blended tea please! There’s 3 ice cream cases, i think one has an assortment of sorbet or maybe even gelato. Looks like they do samiches and such too, as their flyer reads, «Sandwich Meal Deal $ 4.50(includes chips & a drink). or Hot Dog Meal Deal $ 2.75.» I might have to try that for a quick lunch sometime. My favorite thing about this ice cream shop, is the cold case full of Bön-bon’s prepackaged for your taking home and gobbling up. I purchased a container of 6 for $ 3.50. They are such a yummy delight; chocolate covered balls of assorted flavors of ice cream!!! Who could go wrong there… other than to not buy enough in one stop? I highly recommend stopping in and supporting this family-owned establishment. At least get yourself a container of them oh-so-delicious bon-bon treats!
