This post is specifically in regards to the Modoc Hall Java City. As someone who used to work here as a student I gotta say… it’s gone downhill. The regular semester workers are super friendly(most of them anyways…) but they just don’t seem to give a single crap about their job. They sit at the guest-tables when no guests are at the register, doing homework and shooting the shit with their boyfriends(something I would have written them up for when I was supervisor). There’s even been a couple times where I’ll be standing at the register staring at them waiting to be served, and they finish reading their paragraph or typing whatever they’re doing before helping me! Jon… I think you need a manager for Modoc, because these girls are honestly running it to the ground. I also don’t think they’re training these peeps on how to make good espresso either. Because I’ll watch them pull shots that are dead before they hit the cups. They don’t stir in the powders into drinks with a spoon, they just swish the dead shots around in the cup and call it good enough, so I’m sitting there chewing on my cinnamon roll latte. They just don’t give a single shit and it’s starting to wear on my nerves. If it wasn’t the ONLY place around to get coffee, I’d 100% stop coming here. Sad.

This place is pretty good. I usually get their hot chocolate or smoothies They can’t beat Jamba Juice or Starbucks though But their service is pretty nice and quick The line builds up fast during peak hours though

So this morning I was craving for some Hot mocha and decided to stop by here. The staff are rude & no smile at all. When I got my hot mocha I thought it felted light! So i open the lid & it was only filled half way! I’m so mad.

Since there is no Eco Grounds to review under, I recently had some conflicts with this place. Often I walk after class for my typical drink. Java is my new go to place, very friendly people at the location across Lassen Hall. Anyways, I ask for a Large Caramel Macchiato with light ice and no whip cream at Eco. They end up putting more ice than my friend’s regular dose of ice. And noticed the same girl who ask for whip, put whip. … um… helloo? I reminded her no whip politely, but it was too late and she applied whip already. She didnt even apologize, and I gave up on fixing the whole drink all together and just took it. Another situation is, I simply order the same drink and paid. I waited in line until I realized all those before me have gotten their drink. I ask if they even taken my order. They dont even acknowledge or apologize that I patiently waited for a nonexistent drink I paid for… they never did until I told them they forgot my drink. I’m just thinking I wont be back for a long while. Maybe staff there are unable to function as early as 9 in the morning.

I am a regular customer here because it is located at a convenient location and is next to the library. Although most employees are alright, there is a tall Asian girl who is very rude. She should be fired. I don’t know why they let her work there. She ruins my whole experience of coming here.

This is the next best thing to Starbucks. If you are a sac state student or ever been on campus this is a nice spot right by the library. There is always a line there… especially in the morning. Sometime you might get lucky. I ordered a medium white mocha latte with no whip cream. It was a little bit sweet, but it gave me my caffeine intake. They also have a great selection of pastries like muffin and bagels.

I ordered the Javalanche & it was delicious! Very similar to a yummy milkshake! & my girlfriend ordered a chai tea which I knew she enjoyed because she kept saying«mmmm.» She said the spices are on point. Highly recommend because this coffee shop is local, the workers were super nice, & the drinks are perfection! I will be returning to try the pastries with my next Javalanche!

I used to always come here, but the coffee is just too syrupy for my liking! I do love their peach and mango iced teas though. The staff is super snobby, but what can you expect from students as staff. Today was just the icing on the cake. It is 3:30pm. I am outside by Lassen Hall, drinking my tea and doing an online quiz. I am sitting at a spot with an umbrella because it has been raining, but lightened up a little when this tall, skinny rude, but pretty, long-haired blonde comes out saying, «you guys need to go, we are closing and I need to put the chair away.» I told her, «the lady just came out and told us you closed at 4,» when she proceeded to argue, «yeah, but we put up the chairs now.» So, I take my sweet time putting all my items away and finish my drink. She starts putting the other chairs away and closes one of the umbrellas. As she is closing the umbrella, a puddle of water rushes from the top of it and on to her! That is what I call KARMA. Next time, don’t rush PAYING customers and don’t be such a bitch!

The food here didn’t grab my attention and the coffee seems inline with everyone else. What stood out for me was the friendly customer service!!! Thanks Emesha for being so nice after a long flight!!!

The coffee here is alright, nothing too crazy. I really love the cinnamon roll lattes! I don’t like waiting forever at the campus Starbucks, so I just resort to the next best thing… Java city! The biggest turnoff at Java city is the staff. Every Time I go in there I feel like they don’t even pay attention to me. They are too busy talking or whatever. They hardly ever greet me, and are terrible at their job. Just today I walked in and said hello only to be greeted with a death stare and no response. Extremely rude but I just told myself that is probably her«happy» face. Anyways, I will probably walk the extra distance and go to the Java city on the opposite side of campus.

Nothing like waiting 20min for a coffee, when there is only three people in front of you and four employees working.

Java city is a great campus coffee place with stamp cards that get you a free drink of any size and any number of espresso shots after you buy ten. And the stamps are based off of how many drinks you buy not the amount of times you go!

Normally, I don’t prefer coffee made in school just because yeah… I could find better elsewhere. But surprisingly, Java City here is alright in my book! Pros: — Next to the new lounge and the library, which Is right across. — Indoor and outdoor seating available. — Offers brewed coffee, expresso coffee, javalanches(their version of a frappuccino), and fruit smoothies. — They have bagels, muffins, scones, and other pastries. — They have salads, fruit cups, small sandwiches, and other snacks. — Accepts cash and card. — Buy 10 drinks, get the next one free! — This location always toasts your bagels! — Free water near the entrance. Cons: — Cream cheese is an additional .50 cents. — Some of the workers are tentative, some aren’t. I’m pretty much always here before any class, catch me there one time!

Located next to the campus library, this Java City is a good spot to grab a bite of studying while you await your next class but other than that it’s all but impressive. The coffee tastes less than mediocre and tge food is not good at all. But if you drink your coffee black and are looking for a place to chill this might just be the place for you… but good luck finding a clean table!

I can get a coffee ordered, purchased, and ready in 10 minutes. That’s enough time to get to my next class! I recommend getting the Cookies n’ Crème Javalanche!

I’m so dissapointed with java city right now. Previous time I went to buy a vanilla latte it was very bland, I could barely taste the espresso. This time I tried their iced coffee. Apparently they ran out of iced coffee and they were rebrewing. Instead of telling me and asking if I wanted the hot coffee over ice she did it herself which sctually gave me less coffee and water down my coffee because all my ice melted as well as melting and warping the bottom on my cup. They didn’t add the sweetner like the menu stated, creamy iced coffee being lightly sweetened. Its my fourth time at java city and everytime I try something new. I thought maybe I had to ask for it to be sweetened. My iced coffee was just ruined, and I didn’t enjoy it. another cashier helped me when I told her my situation and I asked for an iced mocha instead and that ill pay the difference. She insisted that it was okay and she will just remake my drink without paying the difference. That made me happier that she actually cared. I bought a blueberry scone, tasted very stale and old. NOT sure how fresh their pastries are, I’m sure I won’t buy pastries anymore from java unless I’m starving. Coffee, unless I’m extremely tired. I appreciated the customer a service from the second gal, wish I got her name so I could praise her. I think both cashiers that helped me were training new as well.

While the javalanches are delicious, everything else makes this joint bitter. I have never waited less than 5 minutes for even a small, basic beverage. Baristas appear to despise their job, and are regularly rude to customers. Not worth the delicious drinks, unfortunately.

Probably will not be returning here again. I ordered an Iced white mocha while I was on campus. It was in fact pretty good, not compared to Starbucks but it was very convenient since I needed my caffeine fix on campus. They were friendly, quick, and efficient. Unfortunately, this drink made me stopped twice for bathroom breaks all the way home to Rancho. It was not a pleasant day to the least until bedtime! I think the Starbizzle God was punishing me for cheating on her! lol

I RARELY go to Java City on campus after an incident happened a couple years back. Since I don’t want to get into it, all I want to suggest is TOKEEPYOURRECEIPTSAFTEREVERYPURCHASEYOUMAKEHERE! If they mess up on your order, which they most likely will, it’s your only line of defense for setting them straight and not having them rip you off. Anyway, the coffee here is decent, it’s nothing special. The white chocolate mocha here is pretty delicious and is probably the only drink I’d order from here. If you purchase a yogurt parfait, make sure you buy it in the morning(if/when they’re freshly made) and eat it right away before the granola gets soggy and yucky. This is the only coffee shop on campus so if you forgot your coffee at home I guess its an OK place to get your coffee fix. I always try to bring my own coffee from home though.
