Samantha is a an excellent barber and an extremely pleasant person. So often I see reviews of barber shop and they are generic to the shop itself. Well a shop in and of itself is nothing much unless there are excellent people to back it up. I have been sporting a flattop for the last few month and tried several other barbers before becoming regular with Samantha. A flattop is a tough cut with many different variations and Samantha has listened to all my requests and refined the cut to just what I wanted. She is a perfectionist. Recently I knew I would be out of town for a few weeks so I had Samantha take my hair a bit shorter to last longer and it came out great. I am 3 weeks past my last cut and the shape is still just right. Now, the shop… very old school in its style, just what a barber shop should be. Great atmosphere and a convenient location.

I’m sorry guys I wanted to like you and I was hopeful after reading the reviews but the haircut that honestly finished a little too quickly wasn’t up to par to what I was looking for. First off, and no disrespect, but the older barber’s hands were very shaky, leaving some slight unevenness in the lining of my front and back hair line. Secondly when I started going over what I wanted(all one length, no sidebars, shape up in front and back so it looks smooth, cut close to ears when cutting around them and getting rid of sideburns) the man was like«woah woah I don’t know if I can do that. We’ll see what I can do» Umm…then why are you a barber if you can’t handle the requests your customers give you? Every single barber I’ve had was able to easily provide the cut without much effort. Instead I basically just got a buzz cut all one length with nothing shaped up. Even though it was $ 11 for the cut(not including tip) I wouldn’t go back here even for the cheap price.

Per the husband, good service for the price. Definitely a barber shop, and not a salon, but they do great work for their price.($ 11 without a tip)

I have been going to Johnny’s for probably 20 years, at a rate of a hair cut every six weeks thats in the area of 172 times! Never been disapointed. Some of the guys cut a little shorter than others but it’s always been a job well done. I really like the old time down home feel and Johnny is as good of a guy as it gets. I could spend a lot more money at some fancy place with a shampoo and blow dry but the end result would be no better. Save your self some money and get a good cut. I know I will keep going back.

Went again today. Been going regularly. Cheap, friendly, great job. What more can you ask for? Plus, you can see the TV from every angle in the mirrors.

Good solid shop for a basic cut. Guy at the end closest to rear door is best. Beware of others but then again there is a right barber for every head. Owner cuts okay. Great value. Best part is getting neck line cleaned with hot foam and safety razor.

Friendly old school barbershop. It was pretty busy when I dropped by around noon. Just shows this guy knows his stuff. Waited for about 45 minutes, got in the chair, and 10 – 15 minutes later I was done. Cleaned up with a nice taper around the sides and back and gave my mane a nice trim on top. Finished it up with the straight razor and hot lather. Simple and classic. Great deal for $ 10(without tip).

So i made it back on a monday to get that haircut. I had to wait for two(old) guys ahead of me. itsallgood — i was in no hurry. The barber possessed skill in that i don’t think he actually looked at my head while giving the haircut. It seemed as though he used just as many differnt types of clippers as when i get a $ 6 cut in li’l saigon but i wasn’t counting. The end result: eh, just a medocre haircut with the back of my neck getting a hot foam and lather straight edge shave. Not really worth the $ 15 i ended up paying with tip. Stockton and 65th here i come for a cheap asian haircut and sammich!

So my roommate has been looking for a good, old-fashioned barber shop that does hot shaves. Turns out, this is a dying trend so I turned my search to Unilocal and found Johnny’s. I called them this morning around 11 and the guy that answered the phone confirmed that they do straight-edge shaves. I was happy to see that they were close to us in East Sac so we headed over there today after lunch. There were 3 guys ahead of him so I dropped him off and went to run some errands. I was surprised when I got a text after about 20 minutes saying that he was ready to be picked up. Turns out, once he was in the chair, the guy tells him that he only shaves the back of his neck and they don’t shave faces anymore. Apparently he didn’t feel the need to mention that when I called 3 hours earlier. On top of that, he gave him this ridiculous flat top that makes him look like a Marine(and was not what he asked for at all). Luckily, my roommate is really low maintenance and he’ll just let it grow out and try some place new because we certainly won’t be coming back here.

Johnny’s is old school good, I mean an original barber shop! Literally like the old jingle«shave and a haircut»! They give a no frills cut so don’t expect to be styled aside from what the guys know. But to have a hot lather straight shave after is truly a men’s experience at a barbershop. It’s hot or miss on the wait time, so bring a book or an iPod, or watch the«whatever the hell is on» TV in the far corner. You may get lucky enough to strike up a conversation about East Sac history if you are lucky. Glad be in the same neighborhood!

I just moved to town and was looking for a place to get a haircut. Unfortunately, for some reason, the most common response in my office was Supercuts, and I really just wanted a good basic barbershop. After seeing the reviews of Johnny’s on here, it appeared to fit the bill so I headed that way on a Saturday morning. There were two barbers working and I had about a 10-minute wait. As others have stated, there was a old western on the TV and lots of pictures of hot rods on the wall. Upon getting in the chair, I described what I wanted — basically a standard men’s haircut — and within 20-minutes I was freshly cut and looking professional again. At only $ 10 a cut, this is definitely going to be a regular stop for me. My only warning is to skip the gel they offer. Like many barbershops, the gel they use is too heavy and even a good cut can end up looking very slicked-Back to the Future, George McFly with the amount of gel they can add to your hair.

I’ve been coming to Johnny’s for over ten years. So have a lot of guys(and their sons and grandsons) from East Sac. Its a plain, old-fashioned barber shop. On weekdays there is generally only one barber. I believe the weekday barber might be John the owner. I really prefer to go on the weekends when there are 2 or 3 barbers; you might have to wait anywhere from 0 to 20 minutes, but what better way to relax, browse a magazine, or watch an old western on the TV. I don’t think they do anything fancy at all, just the basics. These guys have been cutting hair for about 50 years, so they know what they are doing, and that is why ordinary guys needing ordinary haircuts just keep coming back.

I’ve had a hard time finding a good barber in town. I have simple, short white guy hair that needs a cut every 3 – 4 weeks, so I’m not looking for a salon or anything fancy. $ 10, short, if any, wait, and a cut good cut. Atmosphere doesn’t mean much to me– I want to be in and out and get a good cut. Johnny’s is an old school neighborhood barber shop. ‘Nuf said. You may also want to check out Buzz, or even The Paul Mitchell Academy, which can be either great or not very good.

Great barber shop: 3 barbers, tons of old photos on the wall of the Yankees and posters for the A’s. $ 10 for a haircut. They shave your sideburns and back of your neck too, which is really nice. Close enough to Trader Joe’s to get a cut and walk over to get some groceries.
