This place is tiny — in a cozy, friendly way. The sandwich bar and whiteboard menu meet you as you walk in, and you tell your order directly to the chef behind the counter. Service is quick and friendly. The food is excellent. I shared the Paris Hilton and the smoked salmon sandwiches with my cousin. Smoked salmon was good, but the Paris Hilton is just perfect if you have a sweet tooth. The baguettes are very good. We will definitely be back. Beware of La Bonne closing early — they might sell out shortly after noon!

Today’s tomato seafood saffron soup is so fresh and delicious. Paired w/a half of smoked salmon cucumber brie sandwich and a soda was $ 8.68 total. gourmet. It takes you to another place, like, vacation! Food that brightens your day. So yummy. Today’s warm brie, roasted mushrooms, and prosciutto on baguette… so tasty, delicate, and, again, it makes me feel like I’m on vacation. There was a steady stream of customers but no long line, perfect flow. I find it difficult to go anywhere else for lunch during the week. Why deprive myself of vacation?

Had their duck liver pâté sandwich(I think it also had brie and tomato slices in it), pretty yummy. Call me a sandwich sinner, but it was definitely better dipped in their delicious cream of mushroom soup. Barely a wait on a weekday just before 1pm. And just FYI, I think their credit card charges come out looking like you went to a dentist, which is kind of weird, but whatever.

I have been wanting to try this place for years! Alas I work in Rancho Cordova.. I live downtown but I work Monday through Friday and this place is not open on the weekend. Finally today I got the idea while driving my boss to the airport to stop in on the way back. I got the classic and a cup of cream of mushroom so rich I could only finish half of it. I plan to eat it later the sandwich was Heavenly(I love Bri) and you can tell that this food is made fresh daily. I’m sad that I can’t come here more often because of the odd hours but it is very delicious food! Maybe I can convince a friend to pick it up for me while I’m at work

La Bonne is a hidden gem. Order at the counter, proceed to the checkout, wait a short amount of time for your baguette sandwich, and enjoy the most heavenly creation this side of the Mississippi. Picture it: Duck Confit, Brie, and Caramelized Onions on a freshly baked French Baguette. Inexpensive price point for a quality sandwich!

Cute place. Right downtown. It’s small but food is great, tons of options for such a small place. Chef uses the highest quality ingredients and staff is so friendly and helpful. I had a delicious tomato basil and the white bean/duck roast soup is also very delicious. Not to mention the. Home made chocolate chunk cookie which is very authentically homey and delightful.

I absolutely love this place and keep forgetting that it is tucked away downtown. The menu changes constantly and they always have innovative sandwiches here. The interior is very small with limited seating so you might have to take your meal to go. Definitely not your run of the mill sandwich shop. I try to go here anytime I’m downtown for a meeting/training.

This is the BEST place I’ve ever eaten at in Sacramento. I don’t know how I ever missed it but the food is delicious. I ordered a turkey sandwich with melted Brie and it was to die for! The crem brûlée was amazing and left my mouth watering, I couldn’t get enough!

Oh this place is absolutely adorable!!! I have been wanting to come here for such a long time! Finally I decided to use my lunch break to come over here. First of all, it is fairly hidden and only open for a small window of time during lunch. Luckily I work fairly close to the downtown area so I was able to have time to drive over here and order some food. First and foremost, it is pretty tiny and there was a line out of the door when I showed up. Most of the seating was occupado and this was around noon. You get in line and order with the chef who makes the sandwiches/soup right in front of you. Then after you order with him you pay at the register and patiently wait for your food. You can get it to go, or for dining in. When you dine in, they bring you the food. They also gave me a small glass of water(I didn’t order a drink) which I thought was very thoughtful. I ordered the french onion soup and the«Big Chris» sandwich. Let’s start off with the soup. For those of you who were like me and never tried it before let me break it down for you. It’s basically onion broth(on the saltier side of the spectrum) with A TON of onions. It’s called onion soup for a reason. They also put two small slices of baguettes covered in cheese into the soup. The cheese melts and when you eat the soup all together it is this oooooozy cheezy oniony(not date food) goodness. As it was my first time ever trying this soup I had nothing to compare it to. I thought it was pretty good and considering that it is a classic french soup I am glad I tried it, but I don’t think that I will be ordering it again.(Too much onion for me). Now, for the sandwich, holy moly guacamole!!! This thing was soooo good! The baguette, the smoked salmon, the tomatoes, the balsamic dressing, the goat cheese. It just all worked soooooo nicely. The baguette had a nice firmness and crunch but not too hard to bite into. And I don’t know why, but the sandwich was really juicy. In the best way possible. It was just… yaaasss. That’s all I can say. If you like salmon & prosciutto you’re going to love this sandwich! If you were dining in, once you finish eating you take you trays and whatnot inside. Right inside of the door to your right there is a large tray/bin/thing to place your plates and utensils. Basically, if you work in the area and you need some place for lunch, I definitely recommend it. I only have an hour lunch break(as most people) and I was able to be back in my office in time. Big thumbs up to this yummy sandwich find!!! Can’t wait to come back and try the other delightful sandwiches!

Hey! A French soup and sandwich hole in a wall!!! Yes please. note: order from the chef, THEN proceed to the cashier. I did not and had to hold the line. there were about 4 tiny tables inside and 2 tables outside. I came at lunchtime and it was raining so no seats for us. Ordered the duck confit sandwich, lemon mussel soup and lemon basil soup to go. Unilocal check in has a 20% off dessert and I tried to get there best seller which is the chocolate crème brûlée but they only serve it for dine in. So no dessert for us either. Next time. Sandwich was yummy. Duck and Brie go so well together! The French loaf had just the right crunch to it and savored it, I did.!It was delicious! The soups were thick and flavorful. Good thing I got the small container coz it was really rich. When we come back to Sac, this place will be the 1st one on the list.

Loved loved loved the Classic Sandwich! It looked pretty basic when I unwrapped it but with one bite, I was sold. The baguette was fresh with a crusty exterior and soft interior. The salty prosciutto with the warm creamy brie and the acidic balsamic glaze worked so well together. It was a perfect sandwich. You get in line, place your order with the chef, and then pay at the cashier indicating if you’re taking it to go or eating there. If taking it to go, wait by the cashier. If eating there, find a seat and your food will be delivered to you. It was a bit of a wait during the lunch hour. There was just one chef and two more workers tending to the cashier and then to those eating at the café. Despite the amazing sandwich, I felt that the staff wasn’t very friendly and their demeanor was very serious.

Cute little soup shop tucked away in Sacramento. Today I purchased their saffron clam chowder with a side order of bread(takeout). While approaching the restaurant it did have a nice line and had to wait approximately 15 minutes before placing an order. Now the clam chowder that I purchased was great! It had a nice creamy texture followed by the chunkiness of clams and potatoes. This place really lives up to its name and is worth the wait, especially during the cold winter months! Another soup that should be noted is their French onion soup. That is a big WOW for me, I totally enjoyed it with the mini baguette. Aside from this, the chef and cashier are very friendly. I enjoy hearing their recommendations and usually always get them. This place has never disappointed me yet!

La Bonne is one of my favorite places in Sacramento. It makes me so happy when I can make it in for their limited hours. They’re open only on weekdays for 3 hours. If you’re here and you’re ever wondering … «Half sandwich vs whole? Cup of Soup vs. Bowl?» Just get the bigger one, you’ll be a happy camper. I’ve never been disappointed by anything that I got here. Soups are $ 3 for a cup, $ 5 for a cup, sandwiches are $ 7 – 8 for each bagette. Everything is made from scratch. You will find a standard menu and a daily special menu. Just go with your gut and you will find yourself in a flavorful and creamy soup. My favorites are the clam chowder and the french onion and you’ll find yourself eating the most delicious and cheesy sandwich ever. You’ll find a variety of ingredients: seafood(crab), beef wellington, pork loin, proscuitto, cheeses like brie provolone and it’s VERY vegetarian friendly. There are multiple vegetarian sandwiches on the menu! This is one of the best spots in Sacramento! Go get yourself a nice sandwich and soup :)

(3.5 stars) Binky Bear and I took a break from studying and drove to this location for a little lunch(a short distance from where we were studying). I had high hopes for this location, given the many, glowing reviews, fanfare, and attention La Bonne has received. Binky and I love Unilocal for the very simple fact that we find little hidden locations(such as this one) we wouldn’t frequent otherwise. I had read about the LONG lines people waited in to obtain La Bonne’s coveted sandwiches. Therefore, Binky and I arrived promptly at 10:45AM, waiting the remaining fifteen minutes until opening in the car. We were the ONLY ones waiting… which Binky did not hesitate to remark and comment upon(«wow, look at these loooooong lines…», «man, so many people huh??» …oh Binky, you sarcastic bear, you). Upon entering, we ordered my carefully Unilocal-researched order. One Duck Confit sandwich, one Paris Hilton sandwich, and one lavender crème-brulee(20% off with Unilocal check-in!!). We received our order very promptly, and found a tiny corner table to enjoy our meal. The first thing I noticed upon receiving our food was how T I N Y the sandwiches were. I was surprised at how small they were, even AFTER reading multiple reviews complaining about the small portion sizes(and for $ 8/per sandwich too — man, you guys weren’t kidding!!). Binky and I shared half of each sandwich. The Duck Confit was pretty good(albeit not as incredible as I had been led to believe) — the duck was very tender and juicy, the vegetables(lettuce, tomato) were relatively fresh, nicely melted cheese — the sandwich contained little other dressing(which was nice for me since I prefer simple sandwiches). The Paris Hilton was perhaps slightly better — the balsamic on the sandwich was truly delicious, and perhaps, the primary motivation for our preference for it. The apples on the sandwich were a little mealy, however, making the experience slightly less enjoyable. Unfortunately, the crème brûlée really fell short — especially as a signature French dessert. Firstly, the dessert was slightly cooler than room temperature, making the custard portion unappetizing(mushy and cold). The lavender was very strong, but in the brulee, it translated to almost a *burnt* flavor(mostly isolated to the top, crunchy exterior). I couldn’t swallow more than one or two bites of the dessert. Unlike other Unilocalers, I didn’t mind the customer service we received. Sure, the chef + cashier were NOT overly friendly or enthusiastic. However, neither of the two gentlemen were rude. I asked many questions throughout the ordering process and both responded in a clear, concise, and professional manner. Overall, the food(for the most part!) was fine — very simple, clean ingredients. I think La Bonne is a *little* too simple in its execution to receive such immense praise and its numerous accolades. I’m glad Binky and I tried this location, although I’m not quite sure of the likelihood of our return.

Do you ponder and savor the appropriate pairing of foods to form the perfect combination? Well look no further, La Bonne Soupe Café is your spot! The food here is high quality, fresh and so damn good. I suggest getting a full sandwich and soup to ensure you have the most robust culinary experience that you are oh-so worthy of. For my sandwich, I went with the smoked salmon, squash, aspargus, lettuce and creamy vinegerrette spread. The baguette used was perfect in everyway. On how I love a good sammy on a baguette. It’s the little things! For my soup, I went with the clam chowder that was bursting with flavor. It couldn’t have tasted any more perfect. And to top it off, the chef is friendly, nice and clearly knows what he’s doing! Trust me, my taste buds don’t lie!

Fantastic lunch spot here in downtown Sac! While everything looked great, I settled for a half duck confit sandwich and half French onion soup. Prepared to perfection, excellent customer service, and fresh ingredients. I will be coming back in the future!

One of my favorite sandwich/soup shops around my workplace. It is a tiny, French style sandwich shop that offers a variety of items. I ordered the duck confit sandwich(w/onion, jam, brie, and veggies on a rustic bread) and the French onion soup. The sandwich was delicious, but the soup was on the salty side. I ordered the soup because of all the Unilocal reviews raving about it. Sandwiches are on the small side. Come early to avoid the rush.

This is a hidden gem located on 8th& J. I’ve been wanting to try this café out for years now and finally had the opportunity during jury duty day. Luckily this place is only about 2 blocks down from the county hall. Walked in during lunch hour around noon. There is a menu displayed on the board with a list of sandwiches and soups. The chef recommended I try the duck confit sandwich which was very impressive! It is a hot sandwich stuffed with warm duck meat, caramelized onions and red bell peppers, melted cheese along with lettuce. The combination of the meat and produce was very tasty. The duck meat was very tender and flavorful. I would highly recommend you to try out this sandwich! This small establishment has a seating capacity of around 12 persons. There is also seating available outside in front of the restaurant. Considering this café is highly rated on Unilocal,I thought there was going to be madness during lunch hour with a long wait. Sure enough, this place wasn’t too busy during my visit and my sandwich was served to me in a matter of minutes. There isn’t much ambiance here; very sterile environment. It’s a great place to grab a quick bite for lunch!
