We saw HMS Pinafore last night and loved it! Even the kids had a good time. The cast was very talented(my favorite was Buttercup) and the production was absolutely charming and delightful. As an added bonus, the music was provided by a live orchestra. None of us had seen any of the Light Opera’s works before but we will definitely go again. I’m not easily pleased when it comes to theatre but was surprised at the level of quality, which was as good or even better than other venues in Sacto and even SF. The sad thing was that the cast nearly outnumbered the audience. I hope Sacramento learns about this sleeper gem of a company and it gets the audience and accolades it deserves! Are you listening Bee and SNR?

I just saw L.O.T.‘s production of «Into the Woods» this last weekend at the 24th Street Theater and really enjoyed it. Some pretty good acting, some very good singing voices, and some real personalities shining through on the stage. I’ve seen this play before so the jokes weren’t totally new to me, but the humor had Sondheim newbies rolling in the aisles. And certain actors took such a good spin in their role that they made their own humor and their own moments to shine, so it was almost like I *hadn’t* seen it before. Real props to Milky White the Cow and Little Red Riding Hood, those two stole the show!
