We recently visited this sushi restaurant and were highly pleased due to me only eating deep friend sushi they accommodated my needs with deep frying a role that normally is raw. We love the friends service and environment. We highly recommend this place. Sushi was delicious and the grilled squid was so tasty.

The VEGAN selection of the menu is to LIVE for!!! My girlfriend/coworker introduced me to this restaurant. We arrive at 1128a and the doors opened PROMPTLY at 1130a just like the signage indicates. GREETEDWARMLY! Now for the food. It was heavenly. I had the fried tofu with ginger & the chef tailored it to my vegan diet & made a sweet soy sauce vinaigrette, delicious. I also had veggie roll #1, my girlfriend/coworker had the 6 fish roll it was very appealing to the eyes and smelled fabulous, a m-n-m roll and we shared«fried Brussel sprouts» can we say adventurous & comforting… with a water chaser… the veggie roll has a cooling affect after Wasabi palette hits. The waite staff were INCREDIBLE!!! All in All +5 stars. Going back MANY times…

Vegans and vegetarians and meat eaters alike: this is the sushi place for you!!! There is SO much good stuff for vegans here, it’s mind blowing. Place is cozy, seating is limited, but it is well worth the wait. The staff is friendly– and anticipated my vegan needs without me even having to ask! Lou and his team of chefs are absolute culinary geniuses. Try anything and everything with the flash-fried Brussels sprouts. Even what seemed to be a simple cucumber salad dazzled my tastebuds with fresh ginger and tasty texture goodness. My only complaint is that the vegan menu(which has like 17+ amazing dishes and rolls) has been a secret to me until now. It needs to be publicized and praised for all the glory that it is! Bravo. Hands down best sushi place on Sactown.

This place is small but packs a punch. Watch out for this sushi chef, all of the rolls we ordered were 100% DELICIOUS. If you love spicy(I do) you won’t be disappointed by(see pic I posted, I can’t remember their names). The sake and beer were icy cold and the service was terrific. They have an outdoor patio flanked in fun little lights for those warm nights when eating outside is a must. Also note the happy hour menu I posted a pict of… Great prices and a yummy selection. This is going to be one one my top 3 places for happy hour from now on!

Not my cup of tea here. This restaurant is not made for big party. Also they will NOT seat you when all your party not here.

My husband and I had been wanting to try this place for the longest time. I wish we didn’t wait this long. The albacore Toro nigiri was delicious. We also had the firecracker roll which was super spicy, my husband loved it. And we had veggie roll #1. It was fresh and light, just what I wanted. They had a happy hour special today(Sunday). We will definitely come back. Thanks for the great service and food.

Hey Unilocalers! If you are in the Sacremento area… you HAVETO try the place!!! Amazing sushi, great service, good selection of saki’s, beer, ciders and wine and always consistent… Lou’s is a cut above most of the others sushi restaurants throughout Sac and the surrounding areas! I think the fact that they ONLY use REALCRAB and make their own Soy Sauce and Wasabi from scratch says it all! Love, love, love this place, Unilocalers… nof said!!!

Joined some friends here for happy hour, and must say I was very pleasantly surprised by how good of a deal it is. This is a great addition to up-and-coming Sacramento, and a place I would love to bring out of town guests. I love that there is a huge selection of both rolls and«snacks» for happy hour. I enjoyed some Lou Doggs, mixed tempura, spicy wings, and California roll, and found all to be very fresh and tasty. The sake is a steal! This is a great location in a slightly quieter corner of midtown, but the big open windows makes for nice people watching and a bright, sunny indoor experience. There is also a small patio for outdoor dining when weather permits! The indoor design is cool and modern, and though it’s small, the seating is arranged to allow for max seating without sacrificing personal space.

Love this spot! The atmosphere is very chill and they also have an outside patio area. Sushi is fresh and delicious! I had the salmon sashimi, a roll(kid Kawa-something? Forgot the name), negi Toro, amaebi, nigori sake, and some hot tea. They have the standard wasabi but I also love that they use authentic wasabi in the sushi(looks kind of like chopped green onions, super yummy and not all sushi places offer it). Their amaebi was sweet and creamy, comes with a deep fried shrimp head, yum! Awesome service! Would definitely come back again!

You have to try this place! This was my first time here. It’s very small and they were very pack when my groyp got here. We waitied 30 minutes and were seasted outside. My group and I got the ribs, mt. fuji, zig zag, simple salmon, Masu Nigeria(Ocean Trout), and, Kaiware Kid. My favorite dishes here the ribs, zigzag, and simple salmon. The simple salmon was so refreshing, and the ribs were so tender that it literally feel off of the bone. I’ve never had ribs so tender. It was so delicious. Everyone must try out these dishes. I don’t typically eat nigeria, but the Masu was good. Plus, my entire group enjoyed the masu.

The best sushi in the 916 period. They make all of the normal plates we are used to and they taste great. It is the chefs choice and the special board that takes it to the next level. The fish is super fresh everyday and the staff is quick and efficient. If you are lucky to get something made by Lou then consider yourself lucky. The only thing that sucks about this place is that it is super busy all of the time now. I go off hours and it is easier to find a seat.

I have driven past this place a million times and finally decided to give it a try. I don’t have enough great things to say about Lous! I came in on a 3:00 on a Tuesday which is awesome for three reasons: 1) This is during their«lull» so seating was easy to get. 2) A lot of the more authentic smaller sushi spots close at 2:00 so it was awesome they have accommodating hours. And 3) happy hour prices! We ordered 4 dishes, two cups of tea and still managed to walk out of there under $ 30(not counting tip of course) All of the dishes were so flipping good once the meal was over I wanted to rewind and do it all again. We ordered the secret tofu, the hi-ya roll, the BTS and one more roll which name which escapes me. Sometimes sushi restaurants pull a Taco Bell style of serving food: different menu items but all taste the same cause they use similar ingredients. Lous is definitely not this way! Each dish had a unique flavor and presentation.

Lou’s has variety of items that are vegetarian & vegan friendly. Ask for veg/vegan menu. Of course, huge amount of carnivore friendly items as well. Their ribs are fantastic! Secret Tofu is quite tasty for everyone(vegetarian) & might be a good item for tofu-first-timer to try. Spicy wings are not like regular buffalo wings. The sauce is Miso based & much more flavorful than spicy. Very small kick to it but flavor is huge! Love them! I haven’t seen grilled eggplant outside of Japan except this place. It takes a lot of effort to make it. And it is delicious! Outside patio is open when weather is nice & when they are not short staffed. It is dog friendly. They are very popular & busy so expect to wait at least a bit. But food is so worth the wait!

Gave this place a try after my BFF mentioned to me that the chef here was in one of the food magazines he read lol. I’ve only been here once and during that time I wasn’t very impressed with their sushi. Almost all of their rolls were drenched in some type of sauce and I was never really a fan of sushi rolls that are drenched. People love the taste of the sauce, but you can’t really taste the fish when there’s so much sauce all over it. OMFG: 3⁄5 — yes, OMFG why is there so many ingredients on this? TOOMUCHSAUCE. Zig Zag: 3⁄5 — Why so much sauce? Midtown: 2.5÷5 — Why so fried? Service was fine as we were like the only table do two there. I wasn’t a fan of their sushi at all!

How can you not love Lou, he’s a sweet guy and always has a smile on his face. Not sure how many times I went to his restaurant but every time it was great. We always waited to have a seat at the counter so we can bullshit with Lou and his«thirsty» sushi chefs. Yes there is pretty much always a wait and I’ve seen people waiting outside in the rain. Whatever you get make sure you get the ribs, they are the most moist fall off the bone ribs I’ve ever had. We would usually get what they had on special because everything has been good. Protip: It’s best to put your name on the list and go grab a drink somewhere close by

The hype is all true — a young creative sushi wizard has created his own wonderful workshop. Attentive service, a friendly owner, and unusual and traditional dishes make this Sacramento’s sushi Mecca of the moment. There’s even a happy hour. Each plate was beautifully put together. Yes, try the sushi nachos and the Rock and Roll, and the eggplant. The vegetable tempura is light and served hot. Hot sake on a stormy evening helped the four of us face the trip down P St with thoughts of returning.

I had no plans of going to Lou’s tonight but since it was pouring rain, the traffic was horrendous and a lot of idiots on the road thinking they can speed while raining, I figured I would just say what the heck, it’s time to chill out. Lou’s sushi is conveniently located a few hundred feet on the right side of P street after you exit the freeway.
I immediately got parking but realized it was a 15 minute loading zone. I stepped inside Lou’s and asked them if my truck would be ok to park on the loading zone. The waitress said after 6pm they stop ticketing. Well I thought to myself, I’m really tired from a stressful day, there’s only 15 minutes left before 6pm, I will take my chance on a $ 55 ticket. Keep in mind… I was looking to chill out and balanced out what mattered most. I was seated at the bar by the hostess and I ordered a ten piece sashimi plate. I was actually lucky to get a seat at the bar bc the place was filled up already and more people were waiting to be seated. Lou himself placed my sashimi plate in front of me and before I dove in, I admired his art work. I also ordered from one of the sushi chefs that I wanted a bowl of rice to go with my sashimi and a mermaid roll. I waited til everything was in front of me before I started to dive in! Five minutes later, Lou placed my mermaid roll on the counter and handed me my rice bowl. He gave me thumbs up and said enjoy. My plate tasted so very fresh and melted in your mouth type sashimi. I reached for a piece of the mermaid roll and it was delightfully spicy. The spiciness started to make it’s way up to my ears. I was loving it at this point. It seemed as if I just flew right through my ten pieces of sashimi and my bowl of rice. That’s when I told the waitress I wanted another 10 piece sashimi to go. She said it will be about a ten minute wait. She came back less than 5 minutes later and handed me the bill and my to go box. The bill came out to $ 65 and gave a $ 9 dollar tip. I got up from my seat and Lou said out loud ‚“Thanks Orlando. Have a great one!!“ Hopefully this weekend, if weather permits, I will take my wife to Lou’s. It’s definitely worth me traveling from Vacaville to try it out again and it’s a must try for all!

The previous reviews don’t lie, guys. Lou’s is definitely THE place to go. This is the place where they won’t try to give you less than what you expect. Intact they go above and beyond for you. The portions on rolls are of perfection. You taste every single ingredient. The appetizers are original and very tasty. I recommend mt fuji and omfg for rolls. The secret shrimp and green beans appetizer are unforgettable. We usually sit at the sushi bar and have always been treated and served well. The only downside of this place is how small the restaurant is. You really have to try to come when it’s not busy(you can check Google for that) if you don’t like waiting in line for a long time. And that’s not even an actual complaint. It’s what happens when your food is phenomenal so a lot of people are definitely going to be there.

omggggg vegans/vegetarians/non-meat eaters, this is sushi heaven!!! There’s a vegetarian menu AND a vegan menu… and no, it’s not just avocado rolls and cucumber rolls! My personal favorite is the vegan spicy tuna roll — a must have! Compliments to Kae, who also participates in vegan sushi contests so he knows what he’s doing ;). I seriously thought I was eating some kind of meat but man oh mannn that grilled eggplant was HEAVEN. All of the carnivores at the table said that their favorite roll was the vegan sushi(after getting fancy fishy rolls too!). Trust me, it’s that good! I also had I think it’s called the Cosmo roll? Also really delicious, but I can’t stop thinking about that vegan spicy tuna thoughhhh. /swooon It’s a small place, so prepare to wait if you have a big party, or sit at the bar(which I highly recommend — up and personal with the chefs!). The waiters were nice and helpful, and it was pretttty busy that night when we were there. Bathrooms are fully functional and clean, and parking wasn’t too bad for us on a Sunday night. I’m definitely coming back here the next time I visit Sac. Who wants to join me?

IDGAF that I haven’t tried«real sushi» from Japan cus sh*t, I’m HELLA good with Lou’s. Woke up this late morning yearning for it, thinking about it. Compliments to the chef, specifically Kae! He took great care of us last night and it was shown through his art and craftsmanship. Every bite was orgasmic. You can hear our table moaning from the back haha it was THAT freakin’ good. I’m a carnivore, but even my sister’s vegan rolls got me feeling moist. Mixed sashimi platter was soOo buttery good… Raw oysters were delicious and flavorful. Miso soup hits the spot on a freezing night. Had a roll as well, don’t know the name of it like it’s a one night stand, but it was hella good though! Salmon with skin was so fatty and delicious! The seafood nachos were fulfilling and spicy. I like how their chips are nice and crispy. Oyster shooters are a must every single damn time. I’m so glad I’m not pregnant or on a stupid ass diet plan cus I ate ‘em like groceries. Many types of raw fish and alky all around basically. Our waiter was hard working and attentive, btw. It’s a cramp place so on a Sunday night for six, it was quite a wait. I totally recommend the bar if it’s just the two or three of y’all. Overall, great dinner last night with good company under the sea.
