This is a very comfortable restaurant to enter any time of day. The large menu offers many different Vietnamese selections to try. Someone in my family always orders the BBQ pork chops and rice plate. We received 3 large pork chops last time, which was easily enough to share. Also ordered a vegetable chow fun which was very good and filling. I didn’t care for the large pieces of bamboo however, which were included in this dish and will remember to mention it next time we order Chow fun. The egg rolls are always a hit and we routinely take an extra order home for the next day. I think an additional waitress could be on the floor to help during the day, but the service is always quick and pleasant. The food quality and presentation appears to remain consistent, which is very nice. Thank you for your hard work in trying to continue to make improvements.

I have to admit, I hated this place because of their services; however, since the new owner their services has been better. The food is not too bad. I’m giving it 4 stars cause mom loves the food there. Lol

This place is underrated, I have no idea why there’s all the low reviews! I’ve never written a Unilocal review but after eating here and seeing its rating I thought I should give my input to bring this place some justice. Came to eat here after a snow trip on the way home to San Jose. We ordered one of the family dinner meals(fed my family of 5 plenty, bellies full). For less than $ 50 we got: –Sautéed Catfish/Ca Kho To(delicious sauce! I seriously could just eat the sauce and rice alone) –Catfish soup(tangy fav. It’s a sour soup with a sweet aftertaste. Both of the catfish dishes had lots of fish in it!!) –Diced filet mignon(chewy, plenty of crunchy salad to add some green to the dish) –Steamed Chicken(Huge portions! Slim chicken with ginger onion sauce) a bit salty in the sauce but so good. –Vegetables and Chicken(nothing special, but it’s a nice filler. Has bamboo in it, which isn’t my favorite.) –Rice(we refilled and finished both bowls of rice) –sliced iced oranges for dessert in a cute presentation! I don’t know about the rest of the menu but the family meal deal was delicious, and I would recommend others to try it! The service was great too! Food came in less than 10 minutes. We’ll come back again!

I enjoy the atmosphere and layout. The service is ok, but can be improved. Also, I always get better service when I go with my(girl)friend rather than my husband, which I do not appreciate. I am a regular customer with my Reward points. To be honest, I only continued going to Hoa Viet because of the rewards program. I recently went last night and there was all girls working rather then all guys like usual. Service was not as great, can be improved and the amount of their food should be larger especially if you’re paying $ 11+ for a dish…

I went here once after a dentist appt. It’s not too bad but I feel the employees are a little rude and don’t acknowledge you that much than the other locations I’ve been too. The food was okay, normal. This place is tucked away so you have to look for it.

1.5STARS! The truth: The only reason I said 1.5 stars, is because it is open late(Sorry, didn’t mean to sound rude). My friends prefer to come here because there is nothing else open late night(Mexican food doesn’t do it for them). I tried many items here. The phở is not good. Same goes with the rice plates. So one time, I decided to order chow fun, thinking that there is no way they can mess that up… And guess what? They did… :( So the last time I was here I ordered calamari as an appetizer since nothing looked appetizing. It was good, but extremely salty. I remember this restaurant being average a long time ago(And I don’t like giving bad reviews), But as of the restaurant for now… all I have to say is Good luck and I hope you enjoy your meal more than I did! Personal Tip: Definitely do not eat here WHENYOUARESOBER!

Ive been to this one with a friend of mine for an after church service lunch. the place looks very nice like other Phở restaurants but I wasn’t as impressed with my soup. I often order the same thing at these eateries, Phở with rare flank steak, tripe, tendon and some other type of meat I can’t recall. My buddy comes here because he thinks its less expensive. I didn’t pay attention to the price as much but my soup just wasn’t what i am use too. For a change, my wife got something she really liked this time. She is not a fan of Asian foods but she swears she wants to come back to this one for her good tasting dish. I may come back, If I have too.(SMH). thanks, Phở-Figgy

Have not been here for three years but an American friend of mine want to try this restaurant so I decided to give it another chance. We had the fried calamari for appetizer, fish in a clay pot with sweet & sour soup and BBQ pork chop were all pretty decent especially NO bugs or hair in any of my dish! I can come back whenever I’m in the area

For two decades, my parents and I are usually dined in at this Stockton Blvd Phở Bac Hoa Viet for some visits as of today. On my current visit(10/14/2015,) we decided to have an early dinner here at this well known place. While entering, the concept is quite good after remodeling, and switched a new owner several months ago. The tables are in «very good» condition as well as their contemporary décor too. Surprisingly, there’s a huge painting on the wall that was attached for the dining view of the CA State Fair. Such a great item for that restaurant! The employees are very mixed-bag for me. Sometimes they can be helpful, and sometimes they are quite busy for doing other customer’s reactions like requesting a cup of water. I’m sure they need to do more customer service here to make it more reliable. Otherwise, it’s a good service for me. For the entrée ordering, I ordered my favorite Vietnamese dish, Phở Tai. So far, their Phở Tai is very so-so. The soup base cooked very well although the soup is quite bland despite the lack of the broth’s flavor. Added with a squeeze of lime did worked alright to make the soup better. The rare steak did cooked and boiled very good after applying it. Finally, the vermicelli noodles tasted good, and bite-able to chew. It’s an alright Phở Tai meal for me. There’s some good ample of parking available, so you can park it easier without the hassles. In the end, Phở Bac Hoa Viet at Stockton Blvd is a good, average Vietnamese restaurant right in the Little Saigon strip at South Sacramento. Perfect for friends/family gatherings. My rating: 3 solid stars.

FOOD — Rice with charbroiled chicken, shrimp, egg rolls, and stuffed bean curd with a side salad(lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and pickled veggies) and side soup. The chicken was flavorful and tender. It had too much tendons. It only came with 2 small shrimp, most places give at least 3. The eggs rolls were good. I couldn’t tell what the bean curd was stuffed with but it was okay. 3⁄5 SERVICE Fair. We were instantly greeted and seated. Our waiter stopped by to check on us once. 3⁄5 FINALTHOUGHTS The food here is mediocre. I’ve been here many times but I don’t have a favorite dish.

What happened to this place? It used to be pretty good. I hadn’t been back in years, but this used to be the go to spot when I was little for phở. I read the Unilocal reviews, but thought to myself, well they can’t really mess up phở can they? And it was 11 pm, so not much else was open. The phở looked ok when it came out, but the broth didn’t really taste like phở. It really lacked flavor and they were super skimpy on the meat. I don’t usually finish the meat in phở, so it wasn’t a big deal, but I was just surprised by how little meat there was. The phở needed huge doses of siracha, hoisin sauce, and basil for flavor. It’s sad to see a place I used to like be so disappointing now.

This place is okay. I grew up eating here, but this place has gone through many changes in the past few years. Apparently this place is open till 3am on Thursdays — Saturdays, so it’s a perfect place to hangout and grab phở. I been here once after midnight and they have a small late night menu and the service is a bit slow and overall not that great at night. Hmm, it’s not my favorite place, but I usually come here during the day and I love the sweet and sour catfish soup here. You must give it a try: D The catfish claypot is pretty good too!

Its due for a update review. They gave the inside a nice facelift. Its more of restaurant atmosphere, more seating, added t.v.s, staff has gotten more professional, they now come by and ask how your doing, offer refills, plus they have some cool shirts that say on the back«phở‘ real» and«phở‘ sure». We got a #22 xl soup, #52 beef, and hot jasmine tea, for just under $ 20. The #22 is a great soup, from shrimp, scallop, mushrooms that are excellent, bak choy, vermicelli rice noodle. Carrots, immatation crab meat, beans sprouts, thai basil mint, slice of lime, its so great i love the broth it comes in. The #52 beef over vermicelli rice noodle, the best part is the surprise inside the thin grilled pieces of beef. Way for it… sliced grilled ginger, it is to die for. I dont even bother getting the pork or chicken, i cant get enough of the beef with ginger. Since my last review the service has gotten way better, the inside is more alive, and the food is still up to par. Wonder if they would do this for a shirt slogan, «phở‘ you know you’ll be Bac». Did i mention that the staff has gotten way better! ;).

Changed of management. Interior look is newer with new paints and furnitures. Service was fast and friendly and they had my favorites. I think we ordered too much. It was Canh Chua Ca Kho family style dinner with came with Steak cubes, Banh xeo and roast chicken. Banh xeo and ca Kho was a hit but Canh Chua was over the top sour. Roast chicken was dried and the steak cubes was too well done and chewy. Maybe it was me but I could eat too much and wasn’t as hungry as I thought. Rated 3 star and not coming back.

I like to come here because its usually pretty fast and quick for some phở when im on a time crunch. Its not really authentic but its good. I like to come here and order the chicken phở with clear noodles because the broth is very clear and just enought chicken flavor. The clear noodles makes it much better than regular phở noodles because its more chewy texture. The chicken is shredded. Another one of my favorite dish is the chinese beef stew chow fun which is so tasty and hits the spot for. hangover or non hangover. The flavor is amazing. Also good paired with some sriracha hot sauce. Also i love the spice tray they have on the tables with the pickled jalepenos and garlic. The pickled jalepenos is sometimes sooo spicy and its kind of crunchy which i really like. Sometimes i might get the beef stew phở with clear noodles because the beef stew flavor is so rich and the aroma of the herbs is strong as well. I also like the color of the broth which is red and orange. With the lemon grass and pickled jalepenos and garlic. I suggest you try the beef stew chow fun if your craving something stir fry. Or maybe beef stew phở to try something different. If your a spicy eater i suggest the table pickled jalepenos and garlic. Service is ok. Sometimes they are on point and sometimes they are slow. But the timing for the food to come out is quick usually about 10 minutes. Cleaner in here compared to before.

UNDERNEWMANAGEMENT!!! Or that’s what it seems like. I used to come here often with a few others and the food and service was usually good or at least ok. But i believe that was a few months ago. Now, the place has been redecorated and they have stepped their game up. There seems to be new employees and they take orders with an iPad now which is pretty cool. The food overall had enhanced flavors, the food is more salty and sweet. Which isn’t necessarily bad nor is it necessarily good. They have American music playing now and american TV. I think the food could be a little better. Things have definitely changed here.

I heard from elder Vietnamese people that this spot is the best, the originator, the place to go to! So i went to check it out and boi did i regret it. Walking in the place was dark there was flies every where and no service was to be found. Took at least 10 minutes to get some one to ask if we were ready and it was hard to understand what the waiter was saying. There was defiantly a language barrier so i just pointed to a picture on the menu since they couldnt answer any questions i had about the food, so idk what the dish i ordered was called. The food was not that good my chicken was tough on the edges and dry leading me to believe the chicken was old and over cooked. I was trying to take a picture of the flies but the room was to dark. But i wont return to this place and next time i see the elder Vietnamese people that were bragging about this place im a tell em to GETTHEHELLOUTMYFACE!
