Meh. Need late night food to soak up your overpriced beer or rotgut whiskey? This is the place. Want good pizza? Look elsewhere. The ingredients don’t always taste to be the freshest or best quality, the sauce is plain. There’s great pizza in this neighborhood and this isn’t it nor are they trying to be. It does the trick if you need a fat slice of food to go in your foodhole. Bonus points for veggie and vegan options at the ready, if you’re one of those people. Great community bulletin board with flyers for everything stuck on the wall. They were Midtown’s Craigslist before we had the infowebs. If you’re the type who doesn’t like being around street people, you may not like the clientele. This also isn’t exactly the safest neighborhood late at night, so be aware. Small bottle and tap beer selection and they always have local Two Rivers Cider on tap.

So my girlfriend and I were in Sac looking for some gluten free pizza for me and a slice for her. Boy were we happy we found this place! Service is super friendly and well-informed(directed us to a hard Apple«Chaider» with tons of delicious cinnamon), prices were AMAZING, and the food was killer! They made me my own gluten free pizza from actual gluten free dough fresh(omg!!), they got her hooked up with her favorite slice since Bleecker St. Pizza in NYC. These guys are really worth it. A couple tips though: CASHONLY PIZZAANDPESTOTWISTSONLY VEGANFRIENDLY, but not exclusively :)

Sorry Sacramento — there are no good slices in town. You’re going to have to buy a whole pie from somewhere else: Luigi’s, Hot Italian, Pizza Rock, or maybe even One Speed.

Once upon a time this was my favorite pizza place… But the fairy tale has ended. They raised their prices significantly and my pizza was soggy and cold. I was very disappointed in the place. Not sure if I’ll go back anymore.

Great place. Inexpensive pizza, really chill atmosphere. Open late so it’s great to come here after work. The guys behind the counter seem cool. They make me feel a little self conscious though, only because I feel like they’re a part of a different clique then me. Even though I don’t really have a clique, I’m kind of a loner myself to be honest. I mean sometimes I hang out with people but I’ve never really had a steady group of friends that I go out and do things with. I guess you could say I’m pretty reclusive. I don’t want to be though, I always try and go out and do things whenever possible, but people just don’t really invite me anymore. I try not to take it personally, I know they’re busy and all, I just wish people wanted to spend more time with me. I’m also pretty shy myself, so that doesn’t really help with any social aspects of my life. I feel like some people take it personally when I don’t hit them up for long periods of time, but they don’t understand that I’m just at home doing nothing. What am I really supposed to do, invite them over and watch me be depressed? It doesn’t work that way, it just drives people away. That’s just how it’s been my whole life. Not really sure how to stop it, but we’ll see. I’m a pretty optimistic person, I’m sure I’ll find a group of friends eventually. Oh well. Great pizza though

Pieces will always be on my list of late night stop but I’m not sure if they are still as good as they use to be years ago when I first had them. Could it be because my last visit was around dinner time and not late at night after a couple drinks? Could it be that I was craving pizza for so long it wasn’t the right kind to satisfy my needs? Last month I stopped into Pieces before heading home after work. I decided to get a slice of pepperoni and a slice or mushroom and olives. At $ 6 a slice the price seems steep but slices are huge! Then again… I probably could have got a whole small-medium pizza at some other place. Anyway, they were a little busy so I had to wait a few minutes for my slices to heat up. When I got my pizza I was super excited. It tasted good but was really oily. More oily than I remember it being before. I never blot my pizza but found myself doing it this time. Other than the oily pools the pizza tasted good and crust was crispy. I’ve always loved Pieces so I’m sure I’ll be back to give them another try.

I love this place. It is in my oppinion the best pizza place I have been too. It is a good place to eat, hang out, and just be. The employees are good people. The food is delish, a little pricy but worth it. And the place overall is clean and a good place to be with lots of positive energy. I reccomend it to anybody who enjoys meeting cool new people.

Whenever I come I have been usually intoxicated. More recently I’ve ate here sober. Pizza is good but crust is kinda doughy in the middle. Also 1.25 $ for a can of soda is ridiculous. 6 bucks a slice… Not sure how I feel about this. Also cash only. Place has a big fan base but me, I’ll stick to Uncle Vito’s.

Pretty much average pizza, I got the pesto with sun-dried tomatoes and feta added fresh roasted garlic. Unfortunately, it’s still lacked flavor. I love Ginger rail the guy behind the counter encouraged me to try the Sprecher… Quite tasty I will definitely have this again! I love to try this pizza place again but however I think it’s overpriced for a single slice was $ 6.75. Cool ambience the music was good I’m glad to see the recycling happening. Down part too many damn flies in this restaurant!

We came by the other night for vegan pizza — and they said come back in 20 minutes. We never made it back. This review is not for the pizza — which I’m still hoping to try. But, the place was a bit dingy, and not particularly in a cool, hipster way. We could handle that — but we wanted to sit outside and eat and there were people smoking at the outdoor tables. Ugh. We’ll be back though — because it’s hard to find good vegan pizza — and we’re going to give them every benefit of the doubt. Hopefully the stars will align then… UPDATE — We did come back and bumped up our star rating.(Though can’t get that 5th star with the smokers hanging out front.) I had the cheese and tomato pizza — and it was amazing. My husband had a vegan slice — with a ton of veggies but no tomato sauce and he wasn’t happy about that. I think he’d really like a version with a traditional sauce. One night a guy was spinning vinyl. How cool is that? Very cool. Plus… we love that this place is open at the very wee hours of the night. This just might be our favorite pizza place in Sacramento. Wish they sold whole pies at a more reasonable price.

I have only been to pieces by the slice s handful of times and every time had been good. The very first time I came here was probably 2 years ago because my daughter wanted a whole pepperoni pizza. I order for pick up simple as that. I get there and told my total is $ 40. «goodness gracious great ball of fire» that’s a lot of money for a pepperoni pizza and it not like it’s the best of quality ingredients. I’m then told it’s cash only. Ugh! They tell me there’s a ATM across the street. The pepperoni is good and the crust is so good. I still don’t think it’s worth $ 40 though. When I do go I just get it by the slice. The best pizza they offer in my opinion is the pesto with feta and sun dried tomatoes. The lemonade isn’t that great. It tastes more like country time lemonade with out any sugar that was a fail. If you never been here I recommend giving them a try. I will say if I’m been out on a late night and I craving pizza I do stop here. My actual rating is 3.75 the price is why I just can’t give a higher rating. Pieces by the slice sort of reminds me of Fat Slice in Berkeley.

My absolute favorite, favorite, FAVORITE pizza place in all of Sacramento, hands-down. I have literally dreamed of this pizza place before. My husband had been driving me crazy for months to take me here, and every day I have to look at myself in the mirror in shame that I hadn’t visited here sooner. I became a vegetarian at the beginning of this year. I was taken to Pieces to have a slice of this insanely delicious pesto pizza I had been hearing about. I was underwhelmed by the plain décor, which was a good thing — all the furniture inside is super comfortable, even if the restaurant isn’t fancy. And it’s very cool inside, oh my goodness. A bonus on a hot day, for sure. Anyways, I put a piece of this garlic pesto pizza in my mouth after the very friendly and helpful young ladies(wow, I sound old) took our orders, and my entire world was rocked. A perfect amount of cheese, sauce, garlic… it’s like they know pizza sorcery. It was only one slice, but really, one slice is all you need here — they are HUGE. And addicting, you’ve been warned. In the last 8 months I’ve sent my husband on more trips to pick up random-craving slices than I can count, and I’m not even pregnant. I became a vegan about two months ago, and since I can no longer eat my beloved pesto pizza, I still can eat at my favorite local pizza joint because they also offer us vegans a delicious vegan pizza option as well. I tried it and also instantly fell in love. SO. MANY. VEGETABLES. My goodness. I devoured the whole slice with great eagerness and I sincerely appreciate that they offer us vegans an enormous slice of goodness as well. They also offer a nice beverage selection. Just be sure to bring cash, since it is a cash-only restaurant! And remember to tip, they deserve it — the staff is always super nice! This place will definitely be getting all my business as long as it stays around, which I hope is forever. I wish they could deliver, or that technology was advanced enough to teleport pizza slices to my kitchen, because I would be teleporting the heck out of Pieces Pizza by the Slice. Just typing this review is making my mouth water.

Pizza pretty much rules my life. Pizza can be eaten any day any time. Pieces is the ultimate late night spot to satisfy those drunken cheesy cravings. You walk into this small shop where there’s always a line and your nose is filed with aroma of the cheese gods. You stand in line and press your face up against the glass drooling and contemplating on what slice of pizza you should get. When you finally order and go to pay they have Carmel Apple lollipops I instantly turn 10, grab a few with my slice of pizza, and walk home in pure bliss. Bring Cash!

I just fell in love with Pieces! A small hole in wall, yet the pizza is probably some of the best I’ve ever had. The slices are enormous and the crust is like a soft and gooey breadstick itself. I would highly recommend the pesto-roni dipped in pesto ranch. I am not much for vegan food but their vegan pizza was amazing as well. I was thoroughly impressed by the plethora of hot sauces that were available for dipping as well. Great pizza, friendly staff, and fair pricing! If you are a lover of pizza I suggest you get to Peices today.

Situated in the heart of Midtown, lies Pieces. It’s the perfect stop for anyone from hipsters to bourgeoisie. Each slice of pizza is massive and can be considered a full meal. I get two slices because I’m a bit of a piggy. The pesteroni with mushroom and the vegan are my favorite flavors. They also have a massive supply of condiments. Warning: It’s cash only. Also, the tip jar is filled with water so bums don’t steal their tips.

OMFG. I have had Pieces recommended to me by everyone I know pretty much since I moved here in late 2012. I can’t explain why my first visit didn’t happen until last night. Never having cash when the pizza mood strikes? Spontaneous bouts of healthy eating? Forgetting that it exists? Trust me, I WILLNEVERFORGETAGAIN. This is some straight up serious legit amazing pizza. I got a regular cheese, just going simple, not expecting a lot. HOW was this so delicious??? Fancy cheeses, super hot and fresh, and *SURPRISE*! THEREIS A DELICIOUSCHEESYGARLICCREAMYSTUFFEDCRUST! Extra fun fact– staff is awesome. Friendly, funny, regular people, who I’m sure deal with semi-drunk assholes like us on the regular and laugh it off without batting an eye. Our new(read: unwilling) best friend Nick talked to us extensively about lasers. Well played, sirs. I was so enamored that as of this morning I still couldn’t stop thinking about the pizza, and am consequently eating a poor substitute of pizza-flavored combos for breakfast. I never said I was classy.

**CASHONLY** Looking for FRESH, DELICIOUS, HUGE, LATENIGHTSTUFFED-CRUSTPIZZA? Well, You’ve come to the right place! Pieces dishes up one of the BEST pizzas I’ve ever had! Came here late night and the line was pretty long so be prepared to wait! They put all the pizzas they have available on display so you can choose which ones you want. When I went they were offering cheese pizza with pesto sauce, sausage and pepperoni, and veggie pizza! I opted for their veggie pizza and ordered two slices(my eyes are obviously bigger than my stomach!) and my friends both ordered their pesto cheese pizza. Nick helped us at the front counter and was AMAZING! He was not only extremely friendly but even offered us fresh pizza that had just come out of the oven! A++ for customer service! Our order was up and ready within five minutes and tasted amazing! Slices are HUGE and definitely worth $ 6! My veggie pizza was packed with spinach, mushrooms, red onions, olives, and so many other things!(you can always look at the picture I posted) They even fill their huge braided pizza crust with cheese and was delicious — I almost finished the entire slice! Since this place is pretty small it does tend to get busy really fast and finding seating ca be a hassle at times. Luckily, a party was leaving so we were able to snatch their table! This is more of a to-go establishment(similar to how Chipotle is run) as workers don’t have time to wipe down tables, etc.(I don’t blame them since it gets so busy at nighttime) so don’t expect everything to be spotless. They are open late on weekends(until 2AM) but at it nears 2AM your pizza options will dwindle as you’ll have to choose from whatever they have left. Overall, a MUSTTRY!!!

Very large and oh so yummy slices of pie! Good selection of tried and true pizzas, this place sure lived up to its reputation on being a great place to grab a slice. I had the pesto cheese, paid a bit more than expected, but damn tasty and worth it. Good, but small selection of beers and of course sodas. Cash only, so be prepared for that. Other than that, I was impressed. I can see why this place is popular with the late-night booze crews.

I love pizza! Again, i love it and their pesto, olive/mushroom, and combo vegies are mouth watering. But Dom C. recommended something else to go along w/our pizzas and that is, the garlic/pesto bread sticks. The garlic bread sticks are crunchy, slightly soft but overwhelmingly flavorful. Ask for some fresh pesto and pesto/ranch sauce to give it a kick! Overall rating – 4/5, the pizza is awesome but a CASH only establishment. I would give it 5⁄5 but they made a mistake with one of our orders, but you know what, no one is perfect and i would definitely come back for seconds. More bread sticks please! =D

Excellent! I seriously haven’t had such good pizza by the slice, ever! I got the vegetarian pizza. I asked them if they could add garlic, feta and sun dried tomatoes to it & they didn’t hesitate. Omg and their pesto bread sticks… to die for! They had outdoor seating, so the boy and I enjoyed some fresh air. I totally will be going back. Plus, they are open until 3am, that’s always a plus!
