Studio 25

I worked out at Studio 25 with Gino for about 30 days. While the workouts were intense for me, I thought it was good training, both mental and physical. I quickly learned that Gino is extremely controlling and not the right trainer for me. He was quick to get angry if I didn’t follow instructions, told me that «unless it’s a sharp pain» that he didn’t want to hear any complaints and, berrated me on numerous occasions for using his cell phone for business. I tried numerous times to reach him on the «business line» with no response, so I tried contacting him on his cell. He was very angry about this. The last appointment I had, I showed up 10 minutes early so I could warm up. The doors were locked. I called and received no answer. The next day, he called me and told me, «Your appointment was at 4:00, NOT 3:50, NOT 3:55, and went on to tell me he had five others there training — @ 4:00. He told me that I had «disrespected» him and that he would not work with me anymore.
The following week, I talked with another of his clients and she told me that she was the ONLY one that was there that day I showed up early. She had come to work out and again, the doors were closed and locked. He texted me to let me know he «wouldn’t be back for a while.» Meanwhile, the other woman was there for an appointment and couldn’t get in or in touch with him.
I have worked out with multiple trainers over the past 10 years and have never had anyone be so condescending and controlling. I have been limping the past three weeks and feel that it was because I went beyond my comfort level on the last visit. I want a strong trainer, but not a drill seargent that disregards my personal level of strength and ability. Unless you are a tough cookie with no physical restrictions, I would NOT go to Studio 25.

I purchased a groupon for their Croxx Fit classes (not crossfit! People keep saying they do crossfit, but they don’t). When I bought the groupon deal it was described as group fitness classes, but they were actually 1 on 1. Which was even better, I thought. I got there for my first session. Gino introduced himself to me and within the first 10 minutes of being there I wanted to leave. Why? Because once he found out I was a runner he told me how bad running is for people, he doesn’t recommend it and proceeded to tell me all the reasons I shouldn’t run.
This was after I told him I had VERY slight knee pain — at the time I was training for a marathon. He asked how long I’ve been training, what surfaces, what kind of shoes… all in a tone that made me uncomfortable. I have been running for 2 years — not that long but long enough to know what I am doing — and I LOVE running. For him to right away tell me how bad it is for my while giving me disapproving looks was very unprofessional. I’ve run 2 marathons about 7 half marathons and a handful of 10 & 5k races. I’ve lost 20lbs while running & strength training so don’t tell me it isn’t good for me. He didn’t even ask how much I run or about my stretching or recovery routine so how can he tell me what I am doing is bad for my body?
Then I met the lady «training» me. Gino told her what to have me do, then she told me. After showing me each move she then had me do the routine 3 times through. All while she talked to Gino and texted. After the first round I felt as if she lost interest. She didn’t give me any feed back on my form, or asked how I was. When I was done she did ask how the work out was, and I’ll admit the work out kicked my ass. It is just too bad I felt too uncomfortable to go back.
This place obviously isn’t for me. I cancelled my next session and never rescheduled. I also never got a call from them trying to reschedule.
I (used to) run by this place a lot and see a lot of people there and it seems like they like it, and I know I got a good work out. If you’re not a runner, or don’t mind being in an intimidating environment this place may be for you. I don’t mean that disrespectfully either… some people probably love what you get here, but I am not one of them

I have been buying Groupons for many gyms/​fitness centers in Sacramento trying to find the right one and Studio 25 didn’t make that cut. If you are looking for one-​on-​one training, this may be the gym for you. They only take 5 clients in an hour so there were never any opening for the afternoons. Then if you can get a slot, you are waiting for Gino the trainer to instruct you throughout the workout because he is busy helping someone else with their workout.
There was some other guy there that just sits in a chair and was so rude. It was our first day and my friend who came with me was trying to balance on a boucie ball while pull weights, she apparently wasn’t pulling the weight far enough in and the guy said «Stop being lazy and pull it all the way in». Really, Lazy!!! We won’t be here working out if we were lazy. Then my other friend was balancing her legs on a ball in plank position and was resting in between sets and he said «Did you want a blanket for that nap». Who says that. Not very encouraging. How about instead of giving rude remarks, you instruct us on proper technique.
It was also extremely cramped and hot in the facility. Parking was also a big pain. In closing, I didn’t finish out my unlimited month of fitness sessions and won’t be referring anyone there. Check out my other reviews if you want a recommendation for a better fitness center.

Gino is a one of a kind trainer — if he was in L.A. he would be training all the stars. I have taken every kind of boot camp, cross fit, gym class there is but his training is unique, challenging, always changing and interesting and instantly gets results. His method of concentrating on the core and targeting different muscle groups has definitely produced results in my body shape. I am sorry for the other people who wrote negative reviews but my experience has been wonderful and is better than any other classes I have taken.

So I purchased two on Amazon Local for Studio 25. One was for me and one was for a friend. Neither of our experiences were positive. The workouts were definitely challenging, but the poor management and rude owner outweighed that.
My friend and I were constantly referred to as «coupon customers» by the owner. Apparently, coming in on a coupon means you get treated differently than the regular members. I guess the point of the coupon was to drive potential members away, not bring in more…
As Steph G. mentioned, the owner was not interested in instructing unless his interns weren’t there or he was the only person available. When the interns were there, they explained the exercises wrong half of the time which is why the owner had to correct them.
During my third week, I was told I could not work out there anymore because one of the workouts was hurting my lower back. The owner told me that I needed a release form to come back and that he would modify the exercise once I had the doctor’s release. When I brought the release form in, he told me it was «too broad» and that he didn’t have time to cater to me since I wasn’t a regular member. He told me I would have to become a member in order to perform that workout in a way which wouldn’t hurt my back, which would have meant placing my feet shoulder width apart instead of my feet touching each other.
Tanning was also irritating because the only person with access to the tanning beds was the owner. They also slowly began to become «unavailable» as our 30 days (More like 20 for me) moved on. My friend utilized the tanning beds more than I did and she told me that the owner eventually told her that Studio 25 would no longer be offering tanning.
Unless you plan on paying $ 85 a month to become a member right away, you will probably get treated like a second class customer. Avoid!

I’ve watched Cross Fit games on ESNP, Studio 25 you are way off the mark!
Okay, slightly kidding, but in all seriousness, BLEH! I was bestowed their Groupon by a friend who knew I was interested in trying Cross Fit without dropping a grip, to see if it was something I could commit too. My newly acquired Groupon was for 10 classes/​sessions. I did look at the Unilocal to see what I was getting and I wasn’t too thrilled to see what I read, but like always, I tried to have an open mind.
Oddly located, it’s right off the ever busy J Street, above some retail places. They’ve converted an office space into a gym/​tanning/​selling crap situation. As I parked and walked in, I see a fellow go-​er coming down the steps. He’s sweaty, panting heavily, and even drops an F-​bomb by the time I’m at the top of the stairs. Slightly worried, I walk into their shop, instantly hit with the smell of patchouli. It was a smell I would not associate Cross Fitting with. Prior to this, I knew from Unilocal & the Groupon that you have to call to make an appointment. However, they never answer their phone, so you must leave a voicemail and they will call you back.
When you walk in there is a leather couch, a front desk area, glass enclosed shelving with a bunch of junk in it. Literally, they sell the most random things there, from purses to sunglasses, to Sex and the City stuff. It really is a weird vibe, smell, and business they run here.
Finally the lady comes out to greet me, as I’m awkwardly standing there, trying to figure out what to do next. She tells me to put my stuff in an IKEA cubby hole. She also tells me that they have water and towels, so I don’t really need mine. Being stubborn, I decline her offer and take mine with me… which I’m glad I did. They charge for water and the one time I used their towel I kept sneezing, after the sixth sneeze I threw it in the «used» bin and used my shirt to wipe my sweat. I was grossed out…
So there are two other patrons in there, they tell me to warm up on the treadmill. They are so vague about it, I ask if I should walk or run? I’m going for over five minutes waiting for my next instruction… it felt like forever; finally they start me on their program. I should also explain there are currently three employees working, the lady who greeted me, a gentleman, and a younger man (who you could call the Intern). So as I get off, the guy is telling the woman to tell me what to do, as if I can’t hear him.
For the three times I went here every session they give you three to five exercises, tell you the reps, and then you do the entire set three times. Now, I’m no fitness guru or anything close to that, but this is not what Cross Fit seems to me. How do you sell a Groupon touting cross fit activities, when nothing was closely related at all? The guy seems knowledgeable, but his lack of interest in instructing is very apparent when you are there. In addition, they have people coming and going, so at any time there could be a few other people he is training — so his attention is well beyond spotty. I did get a sweat when I was here, but it was always about thirty minutes or less.
For their space to machine/​equipment ratio they do fairly well. They have decent and clean equipment and lots of it stored in this small square footage. However, doing maintenance and construction while you are also instructing me is poor business etiquette. I kid you not; he was making a whole in the wall, added a hook, and then vacuumed while I was going through my workout.
My real issue, as if these aren’t enough, was after my third appointment, I had to reschedule my fourth visit. It was as last minute work issue, so I called to reschedule. Of course they didn’t answer so I left a voicemail. They never called back, so I called a day or two later saying I’d like to reschedule. I never heard anything back. At this point, I re-​evaluated the situation. Normally I would get really aggressive and keep calling, but this place, flat out, wasn’t worth it. I could work up the same sweat at 24 hour fitness or going on a 10 mile run.
Cross Fit should be ashamed of you Studio 25!

I complain about working out every morning but everyday I am happy that I did.
I have been working out at Studio 25 for 6 months and I don’t recognize my body anymore.
Working out with a personal trainer 3 times a week has changed my life, my health, my mood, my body, and my spirit. I worked out at 24 Hour Fitness for 7 years, and in 7 years never felt or looked the way I look today. I really wish I had a before and after picture to show you. My wife works out at Studio 25 also and has lost 2 dress sizes.
Before switching from 24 Hour Fitness to Studio 25 I did invest in a personal trainer at 24. My trainer was friendly and he knew his stuff but I always felt rushed, the machines he had said we would be using at the beginning of our workout were always busy so he had to modify the workout, and it was super expensive. Studio 25 is a private gym, there is never more than a few people working out at once all under the supervision of a trainer. It’s really nice equipment, everyone is friendly, the equipment is state of the art, it’s real people working out there not a bunch of muscle heads, they offer yoga, tanning, self defense classes, hula hooping, and Zumba too. Plus the price is right, I am on the unlimited year plan, that includes unlimited training sessions 5 days a week, use of the gym, meal planning, body mass index tracking, in a fun, clean, and down to earth atmosphere for only $ 125 a month. I was paying 5 times that at 24 just for my training sessions alone.
The only cons are that there is no pool, hot tub, or sauna. No big deal, I had access to them for 7 years and rarely used them.
I would recommend checking Studio 25 out to anyone. Ask for Gino, he’ll give you a free consultation and person training session so that you can see if it’s right for you. He’s very down to earth and won’t pressure you.

Just started with their Core Crossfit program and all I can say is what a great value! The owner, Gino, is a very nice guy and a very good trainer. I have worked for gyms in the past, worked with all sorts of trainers, from new age stuff to performance to bodybuilding, but I haven’t worked out with anyone as attentive as Gino. I just started so I won’t speak to results yet, but I will say he and the trainer working with him is great with all of their clients and really runs a top notch shop!
The Core sessions are small group, but they still manage to tailor each individual exercise. They stick right next to each client, correcting each move with both the precision and case you need. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

I was just told by a trainer to wait to tan because the owner is the only one who can check people in and he was one the phone in a meeting. Poor management.
