I went here for a late lunch based on my co-worker’s recommendations although I’ve heard from others that the food is only decent. I ordered the Totsie Roll($ 7) and Red Dragon roll($ 13) for lunch while my co-worker ordered the Hidden Chicken roll & edamames. The sushi rolls were definitely only decent to say the least, not very much fish. However, our desserts were absolutely delicious. My co-worker ordered the Mudslide and I ordered the Bread Pudding. Results: wow! I’ve never been a fan of bread pudding but only tried it because a Unilocal review(yep, you heard me) highly recommended this for even non-bread pudding lovers. Oh, wow. Would I return? Yes, for desserts and to try their Tex dishes but I wouldn’t come here expecting good sushi.

What??? They closed this place??? I lived up by Sac for years and almost every time I visited Sac I came here I gave this place 3 stars bc it was not all it was hyped up to be. But it was still good. One less place to eat at when I go back up north to visit :(

What a wonderful treat. Took my wife and four kids there after a basketball tournament in Elk Grove. We had been wanting to try this for a while and was not disappointed. Service and food were excellent. We were treated to an excellent meal and dessert within an hour. Anyone with kids will enjoy the selection and pricing for the kids meals. The plates were aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and simply tantalizing on the tongue. The Breath Mint Pie and Peach Cobbler were devoured within a minute of hitting the table. Thank-you for a wonderful family dining experience. Sorry to hear it closed

Was about to give this four stars but I couldn’t figure out why not to give it 5. Once we entered we were greeted immediately by a nice staff member who later turned out to be our server Sunnie and were offered seating in the 3 areas of the restaurant. She took our drink orders and they were back in no time. We ordered the wings for and app, but then changed it to the Vegas Fries. That wasn’t a problem and they were out in no time at all. My 32oz beer came out cold and frosty, then onto the entrees. I had the Cowboy Kicker Burger with Mac and cheese side, both were wonderful but I was stuffed by the time I was halfway thru them. Looks like I’ll have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. My wife got the Guy’s Big Bite burger with onion rings. Those thing are to die for(she gave me a bite of one.) She said the burger was tasty, juicy and the pretzel bun was an extra good choice(Guy’s not ours). The server was always there when needed refilling drinks, etc right at the perfect time but never over bearing or annoying. So I’m giving this joint five stars from what I ordered can’t think of how the experience could have been better, would totally go there again.

Meh. Sushi was just meh. BBQ was fine, but I feel like they should be trying to do one thing really well, not 2 things just ok. The service was great and the staff was very friendly. I’d come back here if a group was coming here, but there are definitely better sushi places in Sacramento.

We came here for my birthday with reasonable expectations. We were greeted by some young girl who had no desire to be at work and you could tell by her attitude. We waited a few mins, watched a couple who did not have reservations get seated first. Once we were seated it took about 10 mins for our waiter to come to our table. Our waiter looked like he had just ran a few miles and was super sweaty which really grossed me out. He took our order and came back with our drinks a few mins later. We got our appetizer in about 5 mins which was really cool since we were starving. We got the spring rolls which were decent but it seemed like something was missing from them. Unfortunately we waited about 40 mins for our food. My friend got the tri tip sandwich and I got the cowboy kicker burger. They were both pretty good but nothing to write home about. The burger was juicy and had decent flavor but it did not wow me. The sandwich had a little too much aioli sauce for my liking. This place could be so much better. The location sucks, the staff does not seem to care and they are not eager to check on you, and the food was only ok. Will not be coming back here.

I went here because my husband’s friend said it was THEPLACETOGO. Little did I know(until after the fact), he doesn’t eat sushi or anything raw. Fine, I can handle that. I don’t really know where to start. 1. Service is slow 2. Rolls are«interesting»…in a bad way. Even though the hostess kept telling us how DELICIOUS they are. Not sure where she’s been dining… or maybe she’s paid to say that. 3. I had the fish tacos(appetizer). Nothing special. The only special thing about it was the price… OVERPRICED. Don’t let the WASABI make you think it’s a Japanese restaurant. because it’s not. They serve a limited menu of rolls filled with BBQ. If I wanted that I’d make BBQ at home and eat it with a side of plain rice! Just saying…

I really really really wanted to love this place. Donny and I went for an early dinner on Sunday afternoon. We waited in the front to be seated for-ev-er. Finally, we were put in the back, upstairs area. I looked over the menu is absolute confusion. BBQ& Sushi? Something must be wrong here. Instead of ordering full meals, we decided to just order a bunch of appetizers and share. We got a few rolls, one of which had tri-tip in it and some sort of sauce on the top and we also got an order of garlic fries. The rolls were mediocre at best and the tri-tip one was just plain awful. The damn think tasted like a forest fire, if you can imagine that. The garlic fries on the other hand were rather good and the ranch sauce to dip them in was delicious. Our waitress was a cute little pregnant girl. Very swift, polite and accomdating. When it came time for desert, I ordered the mud pie that was made of oreos and coffee flavored ice cream. It was really good. Donny ordered the Red Velvet Cake. He slid his fork into it and found it was frozen almost solid! We sent it back and it was removed from our bill. I’m not a fan, but maybe you will be.

I’m surprised one of the prerequisites to be on the«next food network star» isn’t judge the restaurant of a contestant(if they have one). I’ve eaten here(tex wasabi) shortly after ghee(greasy guy) won the acclaimed spot.(2009? I think I was there?) Let me tell you, sorely dissapointed. Granted, this was a couple years ago, but judging on the recent reviews, things haven’t improved. the asian slaw salad I got was ALL cabbage. No dressing, and two or three crumbs of maruchan chow mein noodles on it. sucked. sat at the bar and the half full(35 gallon open top) garbage can was on outside of bar 3 seats down from me. I wanted to buy it a drink it was so vibrant. whatever entrée I got was so forgettable, I forgot what I ordered… but all in all, I was just disappointed that I was in the town of a «legend» and stopped watching after my travel was done. Glad a loser like him can succeed so well on idiots… I was one of them. Godspeed Guy(whatever your real name is)

Let me point out that I’m reviewing the food, not the part of the city where the restaurant is located.(I don’t understand why people are giving this place one star just because they think the area was shady.) Anyways, it’s not a Sushi joint. Yes, you read that right. It’s a fusion place. So, bashing this place off because of lesser sushi choices makes you look like you need to buy a food dictionary. I love the food and the friendly service. I’m a Guy Fieri fanatic. And so, yes, I was happy to see big televisions mounted on the wall showing Triple D shows. And college football games. They didn’t have a big selection of beers, but it is not really a beer place. I ordered the BBQ and Sushi combo while my husband got the Sashimi Combo and the Red Dragon Roll. Everything was great. The Tri-Tip was cooked to how I liked it and the sauce was excellent. The ribs were finger-lickin-good. I had to let my husband try everything and we were so sure that we’d go back. I was not a fan of the Jackass Roll but it was not bad. It’s just that after three pieces, I couldn’t eat more. The Red Dragon Roll, however, was the best. I could eat a lot of it. Great combination of Sriracha and Unagi sauce. Expect to smell barbecue-y when you step out.

Went here after a work related training with three coworkers. To get here, we passed sex shops, bail bonds, and multiple thrift stores, if that helps to illustrate the part of town in which Guy Fieri apparently is comfortable seating his restaurant. The décor of the place is midwest-tacky blended with vegas-style«asianish» décor. Big fishtank with sad looking gravel suckers, neon lights everywhere, kitschy. Leave your classy at the door, if you have it. It’ll be uncomfortable here. We were seated promptly, and our drink orders were taken by an apt server. The menu is large, and their sushi offerings aren’t the basis of the menu. If you are here for sushi, you’re lost. You’ve been misdirected. This is the placed for fry, for grease, not for delicate fish flavors. Tried two rolls, the Tootsie and Johnny Garlic … both meh. Meh doesn’t cut it. The drinks were okay, nothing to write home about, and if you want to chug cherry robitessun, then order the Depth Charge. Some people like that flavor. It made me gag. Entrees are where this place fell so short, I actually drafted and hope to send a letter to management or even the owner, Fieri. It was gross. It was pathetic. Tex-Wasabi could as well be called Vegas-Assy. Fieri should be ashamed to have his name on this product.

I’ve been here for happy hour and for lunch, and have loved the food and service every time. The vegas fries were good, but VERY rich, so plan to share them with a small group. The tangerine beef was succulent and tangy, and the rockin lava shrimp is a must! Nicely spiced, and the pineapple salsa is not to be missed. We enjoyed the mango elixir too. If you are in the mood for a sushi roll, ask for the leprechaun. It’s not on the menu, and I don’t remember everything that’s in it, but you won’t be disappointed.

Ues it is a bit pricey spyderman roll w miso soup. Im not sure if it was just my roll pieces but they aint joking when they put ‘Tex’ in the name. The pieces where a good inch or so thick. Plus they were stuffed with actual ingredients rather then just a bunch of rice. My fried crap so so crispy but moist inside so I was nomming away without any guilt what so ever XD The.miso soup was pretty good too. It was super salty or watered down and i got lots of seaweed pieces so i was a happy camper as well. Over all, i think the prices are reasonable after. considering the portions given and how filling the meal is as a whole.

I’m not a huge sushi fan, so other than the California rolls at the wonderful happy hour price of $ 3 I’ve got nothing on that. The barbecue menu is outstanding to me. Basically $ 15 – 25 a plate and it’s tasty. I’ve been in here when the service is terrible. That was months ago. Last night they were slow and I had no problem getting everything I asked for. The beer selection is really good. No imperial ales but plenty of micros on tap. They’ve clearly had trouble makers in there recently. The office door was wide open and the manager made sure his video surveillance was clearly visible by half the bar area. NOT a comfortable way to enjoy a plate of tri tip, a tall cold ale & a football game. –1 star for that nonsense Warning: When it gets crowded the parking lot is too small

It’s been a long time since the first and only time I went to Tex Wasabi. until recently. I’m still left with the same blah ass feeling about it. I was surprised to find that a lot of the menu are items you’ll find at Johnny Garlic’s, too. They’re two different restaurants by the same Guy Fieri and I was hoping they would have different identities with separate menus but they share a large chunk. Aside that, you’ll find sushi and BBQ here. That’s probably what’s exclusive to Tex Wasabi. The sushi — traditional or «gringo». and BBQ. Full bar. The food was okay and not worth the prices. My favorite: Buttermilk Pickles and Fries. I don’t even like pickles. There were buttermilk jalapeño slices in it, too. So imagine my amusement when someone picked one up and ate it, expecting a pickle. D’oh! Service was okay. I appreciated when we didn’t like our gringo roll, our server removed it from our bill without us asking. She saw most of it there and we mentioned we didn’t like it, and she took it off. The Red Velvet Cake was dry until the center of the slice. That part was actually good but, the fact that it was dry all around it is… not a good sign. Above all else, we saw comedian Gabriel Iglesias eating there with a large group. He was at Punchline the night before and I actually wanted to see one of his shows. the times just didn’t work with my schedule. So, I thought it was funny that he happened to be eating at the same place we were.

This place doesn’t blow my mind but I’ve never had a bad experience here. The food is consistently good; I may be showing my whiteness but I love the PBR Pig Sticks and the California Crunchy. Their udon bowl is pretty awesome, too. They have a variety of yummy mixed cocktails which I always appreciate in a venue. I also appreciate that every time we’re there, a manager(or owner? who knows) comes by the table to see how we are and how we’re enjoying our order. Nice touch!

A pregnant woman’s dream or a stomach ache waiting to happen? Unfortunately, I fell in the latter. Definitely NOT pregnant so I wasn’t feelin this joint. But Babeque and sushi? REALLY?! The barbeque part was good. They shouold just stick to doing that. Sushi was over priced and not that great, with not very many options. I love The Food Network and Guy Fieri, but he should focus on his food/recipe strengths and leave the experimenting in his own kitchen instead of the customers’ bill.

July 30, 2011 Saturday — dinner 9:00PM 2 Adults Atmosphere — 5 stars Food — 5 stars Service — 5 stars Atmosphere — A large restaurant with most of the tables seating 6 in our area. The old west meets Japan and the food matches the theme, if you could not tell by the name. They had a little area highlighting some of the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Triple D was the reason we knew about this place. Food Appetizer — We went with a Jackass Roll. This is truly an American take of sushi to another level. The roll was filled with the normal avocado but then to the wild side with bbq pork and fries. It was topped with a perfect sauce with a blend of garlic, chili, and mayo. This was worth my trip to the restaurant alone. Main Course — Santa Maria Tri-Tip platter, since moving to the west coast I have fallen in love with this cut of meat. And they did it justice here. Thick slices of tender smoked beef with the perfect grill marks. The bark was thick with the rub and the taste of the smoke. I wish had more bark to eat, but can only have as much as the surface area of meat. Dessert — stuffed with all of that food. Service — The hostess were pleasant, told us about ten minutes which it was actually shorter. Our waitress was friendly and helpful everything you would expect from your server.

The only thing that was great about this place was our entertaining waiter. But the food? Not so much. We ordered the Screaming Scallop. It was screaming salty. Super greasy onion ring appetizer were super EH. And, the ahi poke appetizer? I think not. Should be called seaweed salad with tiny bits of octopus and tuna, only for $ 14! The Tres Amigos was just A-OK, but nothing to write home about. Being that Guy Fieri’s name is attached to this restaurant, I would have expected something more spectacular. But if that’s too hard for this Food Network star, how about something above average?
