My son has been taking drum lessons at Saddle Brook School Of Rock for approximately three years now. Having shown an interest in drums at age 12, and teaching himself as much as he could through the internet within a year, I felt it was time to find him a drum teacher. I searched for, and contacted several private instructors before stumbling upon the recently opened School Of Rock in Saddle Brook. The school offers weekly private lessons for a price comparable to a private instructor that will come to your home. But included with that is a weekly group practice, where guitar, bass, vocal, and drum students are put together to learn to play songs as a band. The school believes the best way for kids to learn how to become a great musician is through a combination of weekly, individual lessons, and group lesson with other musicians in a band/performance setting. thus, learning both an instrument and how to play that instrument with others in weekly group practice– Each season culminating in a live performance at a local venue. After touring the school and meeting the staff there, I decided to enroll him on a trial basis. It was by far the best decision I have made as a parent thus far. My son’s drum teacher, Eric, is an amazing drummer and a great teacher. He has an easy-going attitude and makes lessons fun. He is someone my son looks up to and tries to emulate. He has excelled at his instrument, thanks to Eric. Watching him grow and progress as a musician is amazing. More importantly is how the school has shaped his personality. As his skill as a musician has sky rocketed, so has his confidence. He is no longer that shy, socially awkward boy. He has formed many close friendships with his fellow students, even forming a band with several of them. As his drumming improved, so did his grades in school. A little confidence goes a long way. The School Of Rock has become a second home to him, The school’s staff are friendly and always willing to help the students. The school’s Musical Director, Jimmy Gnecco, is a gifted musician. He takes time away from his critically acclaimed band, Ours(look them up!!!) to teach vocal lessons and direct the school’s shows. He is an accomplished musician, passionate about music, and passes that knowledge and passion to the students. If you are searching for music lessons for your child, this is the place. The cost is comparable to a private instructor, but your child will receive SO much more– Friendships, confidence, the experience of performing live, and a passionate hobby they will enjoy their entire life.
