I go here at least once a week, and it has gone downhill steadily. Ever since the store was sold(or new management?), the service has been extremely spotty. Most of the servers I had seemed hungover, inattentive, and seem to have very little training. This place could be so much better if the management would pay some attention to whom they hire and give them some proper training. While I’ve only tried a small amount of what they serve, it’s usually very good and consistent. Their tacos are fairly priced and hit the spot when I need them. The emplanadas are usually very good, too.

The key word for Saucy Taco is INCONSISTENT. You never know what you are going to get. Good service, poor quality food. Poor service, incomplete order. I’ve tried this place several times to be fair. I agree with many of the comments found here– so-so food(varies depending on the cook that day) and lack of overall customer service(although there have been a few good waiters/waitresses). Doesn’t seem to matter if it’s crowded or not. If there has been a change of management in last couple of months it may be different now. These comments based on several experiences from July– November, 2015. After this we gave up.

Restaurant was taken over by a new gm and he reached out to me after an awful experience about 6 months ago that had me refusing to come back and asked for another chance. So after some convincing me and my boyfriend decided to give it another go just for drinks and they MORE than took care of us. Service was beyond excellent. Friendly staff and we were welcomed back with open arms and nothing but attentiveness and politeness. Would definitely recommend coming here. Live music Friday and Saturday with really good talent. A lot of beers on tap and awesome bartenders giving you the best drinks!

My first time here… and they messed up my order. Ordered carnitas tacos with corn tortillas, but they gave me flour tortillas. Not a huge thing for most people, but because I have a gluten allergy, it had to be fixed. They were gracious about fixing my order, although they simply took the salsa and chips from my previous plate and put on the new plate instead of giving me new food all around. That was disappointing. The service was okay, and the new tacos tasted fine, but I’ll admit my experience was tainted a bit by the initial error. I will give them another try in the future given this was my first time here!

Good food and good waiters! I am not a fan of the pita style chips but most everything is pretty cheap!

Tried this place in the recommendation from my sister. I did a take-out order of beef and chicken enchiladas and requested for their special sauce on the side. Did I mention the place was not busy? There were two people at the bar and maybe one or two tables being waited on? Results: Was not impressed. First time I was served enchiladas without some kind of sauce. Was pretty dry. The servers were nice, but then didn’t even give plasticware with the take-out order. They also forgot to give my request for their saucy sauce. The receipt even said«1 saucy sauce.»

I went to Saucy Taco within the first month of it opening and it pleasantly surprised. Good food, attentive staff, excellent beer selection. However… I have gone several times since then and have noticed a sharp decline in quality of well, everything. Staff seems to be completely comprised of high school kids with bartender as a babysitter. This normally shouldn’t be an issue but seems like these servers don’t know the first thing about serving tables, PLEASETRAINSTAFFBETTER! The food… what was originally an experience I looked forward to revisiting has become one I purposefully avoid. The tortilla chips used to be uniquely thick and delicious and as of my most recent visit were replaced with tortilla chips you would find in a bag at the store. Salsa and guacamole that we ordered came in styrofoam cups. To hell with presentation, I guess. I can’t say the tacos have declined in quality but they haven’t been spectacular either. The last two visits have been so unpleasant due to poor service that it’s hard to enjoy the food. Once again, there are no good local locations for decent Mexican food/tacos. Please take a hard look at yourselves and change your ways because I know I’m not alone when I say you used to be great but are now mediocre. You have potential, please realize it.

To go against other reviews the service here was friendly & attentive. I give our server 5 stars. No problems there. Taste was good but overall just a sloppy wet mess! Soggy pizza. Soggy over sauced tacos.(Maybe taking their name too literally?) Next time I want a taco I’ll either just make at home or drive to Tacolu. Oh and to second a below review, rice was undercooked and hard.

Decent place. Food is pretty good. Not amazing but pretty decent. Beer selection good but dislike the smaller glass for certain beers. I had same beer same % in 16oz glass for same price. They say it is for alcohol content.

One star is pretty generous, IMO. The service was totally eh. But here was the issue, the rice was completely undercooked and crunchy. It ruined the entire burrito, in which we eventually scraped the rice out of and paid 10.99 for. The ridiculous part is when I told the waiter, he rolled his eyes and said that it had been a problem all day… What?! It’s been a problem all day and still hasn’t been fixed? What’s even more of a bummer is that a manager didn’t come speak to us, weren’t offered anything to compensate(we don’t ask), and weren’t even apologized to. Bad experience over all, but really, how hard is it to cook rice correctly?

Love the food the service is hit or miss. Went to have lunch with the family the place was empty except a guy drinking at the bar. Waiter completely ignored us… we tried waving at him and a couple of EXCUSME!!! Only to have him keep waling back in the kitchen area. The Young-kid day manager also ignored us… by the time we sat there for 5 – 10 min we got up and headed to the door. My husband made eye contact with the young-kid manager and said that this service was inexcusable and the young-kid manager just shrugged his shoulders as we all walked out. So sad because the food is good… :(

They have a good selection of beers and margaritas here… The prices are reasonable… The staff was nice and very attentive… Since I didn’t have any food on this visit I’ll have to come back the next time we’re in the area.

Saucy Taco has replaced my favorite taco spot. I could eat Tex Mex every night, but it’s not easy to find a place that has the right taste combination like Saucy Taco does. If you are local and remember Cabo Taco, this place is in that realm of taste and quality. The menu provides for new combinations of meat and saucy goodness. You likely haven’t tried some of their combinations before. The food is flavorful and you can tell the ingredients are good quality. If you like adult beverages, and a variety of beer, you’ll appreciate the selection here. The atmosphere is casual, but well kept and inviting too. The beer list comes on a license plate, to further display their creative genius here. Why four stars? Sometimes the chicken tastes too salty, but that’s typical of taco chicken. The prices are high and the service is okay. Don’t expect constant attention by the servers. As I said in my tip, ask about the $ 2 tacos and beer on Mondays otherwise they may not give you that price. We paid $ 32 for two beers and four soft tacos on a Monday after $ 5. It kind of put me off for patronizing them as often as we do. But, I should have asked I guess.

This place is typical Tex-Mex food: Mexican food with an american flair. My favorite dish here are the namesake«Saucy Tacos» which are contain filet mignon as the meat. It comes with macaroni and cheese but I personally didn’t care for it. The chips are are fried– more like the taco shells you get with a taco salad. They are delicious but beware of them if you are on a diet! Sometimes I will place a to-go order here, in which case you will need to go the bar to pick up. I do think the place is a little overpriced given the level of service and amount of food you get. For an order of chips and taco entrée, I spent almost $ 20. This is an overall good place if you enjoy Tex-Mex food and are in the Saint Johns area.

Let me first disclose that we did not eat here. My husband and I came here with some friends to have drinks. We sat out front on the patio area and even though it was a cool evening, they had a heater, so I was pretty comfortable. They have a large selection of beers and a good selection of various and interesting margaritas. They also have regular margaritas on the rocks for only $ 3. That’s a darn good deal! We were here on a Thursday evening and inside they had live music. The singer had a beautiful voice and also played guitar. Luckily, she was set up right next to the window, she we were able to hear her from the patio. I thoroughly enjoyed the music. Our sever was really sweet and helpful. She was knowledgeable about the different beers and even help the hubby select one that he really enjoyed. She came out often to check on us, so our glasses were never empty. Full discloser again, I just had water… yea, I’m a real hard partier! LOL Unfortunately, they do not have bottled water, but that’s ok. Normally I would have had a cocktail along with everyone else, but I’d already had too much sugar for the evening(darn that whole diabetes thing). I definitely liked the place and the next time we find ourselves in Fruit Cove, we’re gonna stop by here and try out the food. When we do, I’ll make sure to do a review update.

This place is very close to my job so it’s a convenient but unsatisfying place to go to. The staff is the best part of this place, as I’ve found them to be friendly and accommodating. The food here is a hybrid of American standards and a riff on Mexican food. As someone who grew up in the southwest, I can say this has as much to do with Mexican food as Dominoes has with great pizza. If you’re in the area you could do worse, but this place just isn’t very exciting.

Terrible Service. Went to lunch mid-week almost empty. Was seated and ‘waited” on by young gentleman that told us he had worked for the restaurant for a year. We ordered off menu and he messed up order. He forgot to put items in with the kitchen. A co-worker had to apologize and try to get our other items out to us quickly. The young waiter decided to have a major conversation with another patron about a Ford mustang and decided he didn’t have to wait on his customers any more. His other customers seated behind us also were disappointed. Both tables had to get up to go to bar to get additional drinks and ask for our bills. Food not great — not worth going back.

Walked in 45 minutes before closing the day after Thanksgiving with my fiancé. Our server, Nikki, greeted us with a friendly smile. She took our drink orders — I asked for sweet tea, and since she had just dumped it out, went out of her way and brewed a fresh batch just for me. Ordered the fried chicken tacos. Wow! So fresh and amazing! The chicken was juicy and perfectly fried. Also had the corn on the cob, which was delicious. The french fries also were hot and fresh and so good! The service and food were exceptional — she even brought me a to go cup for my iced tea, without even asking for it. She was very sweet and accommodating. We will definitely be coming back here soon!

I wasn’t impressed. We walked in for lunch. We weren’t greeted and sat ourselves. Food was ok, nothing to rave about. I ordered spicy shrimp tacos and they were not spicy, even on the sweet side. We also ordered the saucy taco, the meat was very tasty but the cole slaw made whole taco cold. .i don’t like cold tacos. Atmosphere was pretty cool. .very laid back bar type.
