Elliott’s Bakery

Elliott did a amazing job with my son’s first birthday cake.

My sister and I had just completed an all night driving extravaganza to make it home for our Mom’s birthday. After picking up gifts, the last thing to complete our mission was a cake. At first we thought about getting an ice cream cake and then my sister remembered that a bakery was on the way home, so on a whim we stopped in.
The bakery is clean, in a new commercial space on a major thoroughfare for the St. Joseph area, and Elliot himself was the only person holding down the fort. Low and behold, the only full cake left was a German Chocolate cake and when we mentioned it was our Mom’s birthday, he went in back and quickly wrote a personal note in icing. It was a quick exchange and we were out the door.
The great thing about this bakery though, is that while I have had my fair share of baked goods and confections, this was the best cake I have had in recent memory. Between 4 of us, we demolished the cake within a weekend with my Mom and sister even sneaking a few bites for breakfast, which was funny because we keep very few sweets around. The cake delicious, but never overpowering like drinking a can of Mt. Dew and then scarfing down some candy followed by a grocery store bought cake, or some of the chocolate torts or truffles out there. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I will probably stop in on my next trip home to buy another cake regardless of whether or not there’s an occasion to do so.
